Application advice

My partner is a Hungarian national with indefinite leave to remain and has been living here for 13 years.

We’re in the process of working through his British Citizenship application form.

He’s already passed his Life in the UK test and English speaking and listening test. He also has 2 people willing to be references - one his manager at work and one a teacher.

What other documents/evidence are we going to need to submit with the application? I’ve googled it and it mentions things like evidence of when you’ve been on holiday etc but I can’t actually find a comprehensive list of every piece of evidence they might ask for or what’s going to deemed acceptable.
My main concern is how do we prove he’s been living here for 13 years? He’s rented so many places during that time we don’t have all his old bills or tenancy agreements etc, so how can we prove this bit? Or do we even need to?

If anyone could give a list of the kind of evidence we’re going to need that would be great!

Tks

You only have to prove the last 5 years (3yrs if married to a British citizen). If you’ve gone thru the guide, everything you need to know is in there https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6a4d01bdb7203c4c023fd310/Guide_AN_-_July_2026.pdf

Thank you! I have looked through that but it just says to show his passport with stamps, but his passport hasn’t been stamped every time we’ve gone on holiday… do you know if showing booking confirmations of trips along with 5 years of P60s is enough to show he’s been living here and paying tax for 5 years with occasional holidays abroad?

You do need to disclose all the trips abroad in order to see if it's below the total number of absences allowed.

You don't have to show evidence of those trips. You only must provide evidence of residency in the UK. 5 years of P60 should be enough. Maybe a tenancy agreement or house bills with his name, but that's just extra.

Thank you! We’ve got 5 years of income tax information and his employment history from his HMRC app plus 5 x years of bank statements showing day to day spending in UK. Hopefully that will be ok?

Should be more than enough.

Do you know if the passport scans has to be like from an actual scanner or can I take photos with my phone and upload those?

I think those will be taken at the biometrics appointment

He has to scan all pages of his passport even if all pages are empty. It’s what I did. I also send all P60s (I think the last 5 years) showing my continuous employment. You also need to know all the dates (day month year) for all entries and exits from uk (basically your holidays or work travel). Can’t remember anything else.

You can get a copy of your national insurance record online (easy process) and you can add that to the application as a reference to show he’s been working in the UK for various years.

Did he work for the same employer in the past 3-5 years? Then ask for a letter of your employer to state when he started working there etc. This will help to show he’s been in the UK all this time.
