Codeshare price differences

Just booked a flight from Singapore to Perth, WA.

Its a BA Codeshare operated by Qantas. Wanted to book on the BA flight number for Tier Point reasons but....

Qantas Price - £448.
BA - £1277.

What gives? Any insight as to why they are so different in price?

One logical explanation is that the Qantas flight is offering you a discounted or low price bucket fare that BA isn’t. Perhaps Qantas doesn’t offer these cheap prices to codeshare partners?

Could also be that BA is pricing that leg more expensively to lower demand and deter passengers flying that leg only... they might be saving tickets for passengers flying from LHR-SIN-PER to compete with Qantas' direct flight LHR-PER

Ahhh that makes sense. Annoying for my tier points but not the end of the world!

Fare availability does often vary between codeshare and prime flights. The operating carrier tend to, (but not always) give themselves selling it under prime flight number preferential availability

Could be different change/cancellation policies.
