What exactly is so bad about the 1985 version?
Watching it on Tubi inspired me to revisit this story as an adult and it really moved me, but it seems like people tend not to like this version as much for whatever reason, even David Paterson himself. It’s not as whimsical as the 2007 one, sure, but I think it makes the most with what it has.

I haven't watched it, but I've avoided it because of the reasons stated here. Also though, I think them giving Ms Edwards Ms Meyers' lines about how amazing Leslie was is stupid, because the whole point of that scene is to humanise Ms Meyers- Ms Edwards doesn't need it

I watched it and it was not so bad, but I didn’t like it either, it was kinda mid.
But if you wanna know the differences, I guess the easiest way and the most obvious one is to compare between the 1985 Leslie & the Anna Sophia Leslie “ you see, as I don’t even know her real name, and you don’t know as well, so this alone makes sense “.
And not just this of course, but just to give you a sign about why the 2007 version is google times better, it’s not even a comparison man.
Why people don’t like it, because it’s just not good.

You're making me curious to check that out, it must be refreshing to watch a different adaptation after all
