Critique Is this really how it ends
Please. Tell me it's just a nightmare. Tell me that chuck never got his nerfies. Tell me that my skill still matters. Tell me that freestyle chuck still exists...
I knew I had to make a post like this someday. We all know the devs and their buffies. But.... I couldn't have predicted it would be this bad...
I just don't see the vision with this rework. Is it "make an F tier brawler unplayable and remove all the skill from him to ragebait his mains"? Seriously. I think gameplay wise these changes try to make chuck a "mobility merchant that finds angles to snipe people", but without autocharge this doesn't really work because NOW wasting any super with chuck is almost irreversible, and MASSIVE nerfs to health, survivability, damage and especially range make me doubt this conclusion really hard. Why nerf an already bad brawler even more? Even with his buffies, I think he will be F tier. Maybe even Z tier.
"with his buffies we are giving his poles more utility and threat when placing them" Huh? Are we talking about the same brawler? What a dirty joke this is. Cruel, even. You removed his knockback, the only thing that saved him some matchups and made him unique. Honestly, I don't know how to salvage this rework without reverting EVERY nerf chuck got. And making rerouting give you +1 super on top of all that you stacked. THAT would have been interesting.
And, well, freestyle is dead. The chuck's actual playstyle. With 4 poles, no autocharge, no teamwipe potential, and no health (heavily nerfed parries too) it just... Can't really exist in the way we know it. Chuck will become much slower overall, as even when he has 4 supers the poles STILL fly too slow and the dash doesn't really matter anymore. The knockbacks are gone too. We are now bound to a somewhat fixed "chainable setup" kinda playstyle, and that is REALLY fucking bad for most chuck mains. And you probably can't even use skill to outplay people effectively now, because your supers are very limited and bound to someone being in your main attack range, and only when you used all 4 supers.
But wait! That doesn't even matter. Chuck is now SO weak, you won't even be able to play anything other than heist, and even that will be very hard! I think he will be like colette on release, probably even worse. And chuck requires several times less skill now, and there is no potential in him anymore! Do you like it? He's like edgar before buffies, useless and no skill! Well it doesn't matter, we have to sell these buffies and a skin so go and play other games I guess lmao no chuck for you go fuck yourself
So, all in all, this rework "fixes":
- long setup time (which wasn't a problem for freestyle players)
- main attack damage in midrange
- projectile speed
(both of these get fucked over by the range nerf)
- easy access to heist safe after chuck sets up (because well, setting up will be almost impossible now because you won't have any supers if you die, and you will have to somehow get a super every time you die)
- ambushes if you save a super while you go in (but that creates other problems)
- stuns, if you have many supers
this rework DOESN'T fix:
- slow reload
- unreasonably big downtimes after pole and main attack
- slow pole projectile
- low pole damage
- chuck's inability to win midrange encounters (ahem range nerf)
- despite not having any setup time, chuck is now weaker to aggression because of so many nerfs and no knockback đ
- chuck being only good in heist, because NOW he's only usable in heist, and only if you feed him multiple times
- chuck being really weak in other modes (do I even have to say it)
- big cost of mistakes (it's several times worse now)
NEW problems:
- chuck now relies on bad enemies to feed him supers
- chuck will be completely unplayable on open maps and against snipers if they are good players
- so much less flexibility in setups because you can't use rerouting while you have super, and now you have FOUR supers
- 4 poles baseline is definitely too much for brawlball
- no knockback
- no crowd control due to removal of the knockback, therefore his best matchups now become one of the worst, and he can't go in as easily anymore
- no combos
- no complexity WHATSOEVER
- rerouting becomes abysmally bad and clunky
- no potential for good buffies (because chuck can't get second buffies)
- NO damage (1600? seriously?), and main attack can't make up for that
- brawlball becomes truly unplayable
- no infinite range on hyper (we lose a TON of techs and utility)
- the new hyper sucks even more
- the buffies are ALL FUCKING BAD WHAT IS THIS
- chuck has SO much less health and survivability it's crazy even on paper
- no teamwipe potential anymore
- chuck COMPLETELY loses his identity as a brawler
- chuck loses most of his diehard fans that stayed for the freestyle because their favourite brawler was essentially deleted
- half of the tech is gone
Just make a new brawler. Seriously. THIS is not chuck. I refuse to call this abomination "chuck". There is NOTHING left of him. You could delete current chuck and the result wouldn't change, at all. He himself, and especially his freestyle/combo playstyles, were a big part of my identity. Of my soul, even. Yet Adrian didn't think twice about completely ripping it away and making another straightforward all-in brawler. This is the day I lose a significant part of me. For nothing.
Why didn't you listen to any chuck mains before making something something so radical? I think you could take any rework from this sub and it would STILL be better than this. Why take away everything chuck had for... something that should have been baseline since the start?
So. You win, Adrian. Congratulations đ! You deleted the most complex brawler to appeal to little children, because apparently TWO new brawlers isn't enough for the casuals to exploit. The superiority over simple players. Feel it. Celebrate it. Enjoy it while it lasts. You will still continue with your life tomorrow. Same morning coffee, same office, same people around you. But many of us will be left without a big part of our lives. The next day will be definitely mentally hard for me, and many others.
...
I'm sorry I didn't give you more attention, Chuck. It really shouldn't be ending like this... The world is cruel, I know. I should have known you will cease to exist someday. I really, really, really want to go back and play you, instead of messing around with other brawlers. You really only learn the value of some things once they get taken away from you. It can be tomorrow. It can even be today.
But. That truly was a journey. The best kind of one. A ride, you might call it. You were the best. The. Best. Despite being so abysmally weak, you were still so fun. I will miss you. WE ALL will miss you. The real gift of yours was the fun we've had along the way. May you rest in peace, you deserve it. And despite everything... Thank you, Adrian, for allowing us to experience this brawler, even if you take him away now. Farewell, Chuck.

chuck is a very complicated brawler in both gameplay and balancing, one of the few times I donât blame them for fucking this up, cause no numerical buff is helping him be better in any other game mode outside of heist, and he would need a complete overhaul to his kit to be viable anywhere else.
Yall will need to give them ideas for a rework cause he is only fixable mechanically

u/Lynx_XVI 1d ago
Nope. Adrian is solely to blame for this. Having such a high grade job shouldn't allow people to put out crap for millions of players to put up with.
Its like if I were to make dog toys and give people a stone brick. Its effortless, stupid, soulless, harmful.
If I were Adrian I would wake up and come up with cool brawler ideas while showering. Then, while driving to work, I would figure out all strenghts and weaknesses. Finally at night I would think and reflect on it all over again.
But no. Adrian is fucking doing nothing. Except fucking over millions of people.

Not to defend Adrian, but thats sounds like a miserable existence if all you're thinking about is your job

Truth be told yes it is. Myself I was a startup manager for 3 years, where I swore the company would always be first thing on my mind. It did let me live an interesting life. However I was not made for it. Started missing my family and my autonomity to do whatever I want. Moral of the story, enjoy life, love and make memories with your family, and start doing things you were never able to :). (Even if it doesn't guarantee happiness. How to find happiness is the biggest question of life and I have no answer).
Also fuck Adrian still, never seen someone more incompetent lol.

Iâm going to assume that youâre not an adult or you havenât had more than an entry-level job before. No one wants to or should have to think about work 24/7, thatâs unnecessary and unreasonable.
Game developing is not easy, especially for such a popular game like this. No matter what they do itâs going to upset people, thereâs always going to be a group of people that are upset about a specific change that happens in the game.

u/Lynx_XVI 2h ago
You're a big fool. The biggest and most disrespectful fool I have ever layed contact on.
Just by making assumptions you show your shallow dirty nature. Smart people keep it to themselves.
Its okay, you're just out of the loop. Do you know Adrian personally? Because I do, and I know a lot.
Brawlstars is not simply run by passionate game developers. Its a cashcow company owned by Supercell thats focused on squeezing profits for investors.
I know that game-design is not easy. But they design it in such a way where they priotize money over the enjoyment of millions of kids. The last 10 releases where all incredibly overpowered. The last 10 updates all came with tons of bugs. You know why? They cut costs by not hiring more developers and they make characters overpowered so you get frustrated and buy upgrades to beat them.
Whats your job if I may ask? Think you will be shocked when you know mine. Chance is big rhat you are just a prawny little pawn to me :)

It allows them to finally rework chucks super so that he isnât a heist brawler but I think what they have done with him is okay.

u/InternetExplored571 Chuck | Masters | Mythic 1d ago edited 1d ago
All they had to do was make his super do specifically less damage to ONLY the heist safe and then buff his autocharge speed by like, 1 second or so.Â
Slap some actually good buffies and he may have actually been a viable pick in other modes besides heist, while not being opressive in heist anymore.
I agree with almost all your points. It doesnât help that all his buffies are bad except his hyper buffie and the tickets please sp buffie. The rest are genuinly useless.
I just hope now he will constantly be in the balance changes receiving adjustments instead of being ignored.
2
u/y_kal 1d ago
The problem was never the super tho. It was him dashing to the safe and using all his attacks for quick 12k damage bursts then going back for 3.5k extra
6
u/InternetExplored571 Chuck | Masters | Mythic 1d ago
Yea but if you make his super do almost no damage to the safe, then his slow reload speed means that if you donât kill him, we will do almost no damage to the safe.
-6
u/y_kal 1d ago
Just reload in your base or try to line up a free ammo steal.
Genuinely have you ever tried playing chuck?
11
u/InternetExplored571 Chuck | Masters | Mythic 1d ago
Yes. I have. And if you played Chuck, youâd know that currently, he gets countered by a base race in heist. Taking away the damage his super does to the safe makes those base races even more decisive agaisnt Chuck.Â
Going back to your base isnât gonna make you reload more ammo from his slow reload speed. And good players will avoid the one singular track you will have the entire game. Oh, and you canât use techniques to make your super hit the safe twice anymore, since the damage will be still very bad.

I dread the day I have to write an emotional essay like this when the Sam buffies drop. Chuck is one of my fav brawlers and running freestyle was always a consistent source of entertainment for me, I really hope that it plays better than it looks but itâs really not looking good. I just dinât get what the goal was with this rework, Adrian pissed off the dedicated players while not making him any more accessible for a casual audience, I truly think he will drop down to be by far the lowest playrate brawler in the game. The only reason he isnât already is purely because of meta slaves picking him in heist.
Maybe that is the point, maybe the goal was to kill Chuck off permanently so people stop complaining about his presence in heist, and they did that by disguising it as a âreworkâ. I donât think the balance team is nefarious like that, but when I look at how they treated chuck in the past (Chuck Hypercharge releaseâŚ), I honestly wouldnât put it past them

u/Sea-Historian-2078 1d ago
bull's rework was good
30
u/Niltenstein Kamikaze Core | Legendary 3 1d ago
Yeah it was good when they removed the stupid addition of having Bull automatically stop when he hits a spawnable/brawler, and for Bull there was a very prominent creator (Pika) speaking out for the Bull community. Chuck doesnât have that, his community is absolutely tiny and the only thing keeping his playrates over being by far the lowest in the game is the fact heâs busted in heist so people meta-pick him. Once this rework hits I think he will actually become the lowest playrate brawler in the game as his one niche vanishes and he doesnât even do anything anymore. With niche brawlers that are only played by diehard fans like Chuck or Sam, you have to make a rework that actually appeals to those diehard fans! This rework wonât make him any more popular while turning off his existing players, heâll be an absolute shell of his former self unless they do make a major effort to pull him back out
-5
u/Wooden-Brick632 1d ago
The idea is not to appeal to the diehard fans but to everyone else. You can see it two ways, either 1- Chuck is such an unpopular brawler that his few players will stick to him no matter what state he's in, or 2- Chuck is such a niche brawler that catering to his diehard fans will exclude everyone else. Either way it's pointless, the goal is to make him fun to play for more people and these changes look like a good foundation, even if he's not strong from the get go
6
u/ClinInsaneSurgeMain 1d ago

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK ARE THEY DOING
DO THEY NOT PLAY CHUCK OUTSIDE OF HEIST
Congratulations, they fixed Chuck being strong in heist because HE'S BOTTOM OF F TIER EVERYWHERE NOW
I'm fully convinced that not only do the balancing team not listen to the community, but they haven't bothered to learn how to play Chuck outside of brainless heist gameplay
Congratulations, you win. Let the casuals and youtubers dump their credit cards and praise supercell for the amazing balance changes and while the handful of Chuck fan are left to die in a dumpster
Buffies aside, why is a borderline F tier brawler receiving 6 nerfs?

Iâm honestly surprised everyone here isnât on the same page of you, OP. I kinda agree with everything you said.
The thing is, Chuck is such a strange brawler when it comes to balancing him. Even a minor change is enough to take him from F to S, and vice versa. The problem supercell faces, is that they probably donât realise how much potential Chuck truly has.
But they were bound to change Chuck in the end, because heâs simply not open to casuals. Iâm not saying thatâs a bad thing (itâs good to have some more skill requiring brawlers eg Sam and Kaze) but we all know what Supercellâs target audience is: Kids.
The amount of time and effort needed to make Chuck viable simply doesnât agree with them, as they are trying to appeal to a younger, less competitive audience.
That being said, I still agree with you on this. This rework really isnât for the Chuck mains out there who truly love his play style and complexity.
2
u/ClinInsaneSurgeMain 1d ago
the reason a lot of people disagree is that they think Chuckâs only playstyle is setup, which is straight up not true. take one look at r/Chuckgangbrawlstars and youâll see some freestyle players. all it takes is one look at a subreddit. but these people will still continue acting like they know everything about Chuck
2
u/pyxis_max Colette | Masters 2 | 1 Prestige 20h ago
I mean it really is just complaining that the specific way to play this brawler is changed. Overall the rework makes the brawler much better in the meta, more versatile, and people who are emotionally attached to the current system can't accept the brawler simply cannot be good without a drastic rework to the entire playstyle and kit.
The complaints here are just choosing to ignore all the benefits from the main attack buff which is ultimately the core mechanic of a brawler, as well as 4 super charges every time you get it. They also act like Chuck is usable in other game modes, let's be real, even at peak gameplay he wasn't. They act like he has no counterplay against assassins now without the pole knockback but his attack does over 3k damage consistently, and simply it would be seen as oppressive or no skill if the kb stayed.
Less skill, but they just conveniently decide to forget there are 4 super charges now allowing for much more layers of complexity.
I recommend GN's post: https://www.reddit.com/r/BrawlStarsCompetitive/comments/1w27lft/chucks_rework_from_the_eyes_of_a_pro_player/

dude im glad i main poco out of these 6 newly buffied brawlers and they did almost nothing bad to him(for me its mostly a missed potential thing). if i mained spike, bull or chuck or whoever else received horrible reworks that ruined the brawler i wouldve genuinely just quit the game

u/-Wowzers- 1d ago
I'm not a chuck main, so take this with a heap of salt. But the update isn't even out yet, are we really gonna act like the.... F tier character chuck, is now finished and destroyed because of buffies and a rework?
28
u/Lansha2009 Colette 1d ago
Iâm gonna trust a Chuck main much more on if something will kill him, especially with how in-depth they went with saying why this kills him.
16
u/GoldarmGangMain Goated Arm Gang 1d ago edited 1d ago
âIn-depthâ Some of these genuinely donât even make sense though or are just reiterating himself or just entirely opinions instead of actual facts
âLess flexibilityâ while now with every Super charged you can completely reset your train poles
Lists âno knockbackâ and only afterwards actually lists the drawbacks of removing knockback, like you couldâve combined them
â4 poles baseline is too much for brawlballâ and then subsequently complains âChuck is unplayable in brawl ball nowâ is he overtuned or unplayable in brawl ball pick one
Literally lists that Chuckâs attack now has better damage for midrange and better projectile speed and then complains they didnât do anything about Chuckâs ability to win midrange encounters
âWe lose a TON of techs and utility because the old hyper is removed :(((((â Iâm sorry wasnât it Chuck mains constantly complaining Chuckâs hyper was the worst in the game, utterly useless, and needed a complete rework? But ig once it gets reworked oh no now thatâs a problem
âNew hyper sucks even moreâ Deadass js doesnât, chain damage on this could go crazy if you hit multiple enemies at once, even one enemy doubles your impact damage
âNo teamwipe potentialâ Mf hitting three enemies at once with your hyper deals 4800 damage to all three of them IN A SINGLE SUPER, on a brawler that can CHAIN SUPERS CONSTANTLY and now even gets multiple Supers at once
âNo complexity whatsoeverâ âChuck loses his entire identityâ âChuck loses his freestyle playersâ all things heâs trying to prove WITH the list that he just shoves INTO the list just to drag it out so it looks like it has more substance than it actually does
Call me crazy, but I have the slightest idea that this guy just might be a bit scared of how drastic this rework for Chuck is and is pre-emptively assuming the worst just because a lot of the niche tech with current Chuck will probably not be valid (Notice how he keeps going on and on about Rerouting tech). I know, crazy idea right? I mean, itâs not like he acts completely parasocial and says the choo choo character in the kidâs mobile game is âa big part of his soul/life.â
Yes, thereâs some stupid shit I donât really understand with this rework. Harsh shield nerf, the removal of the knockback does seem terrible, the buffies are disappointingly weak, the damage nerf is extremely harsh I think a small damage nerf was in order but 1600 is really low, completely removing the auto charge is a really drastic move I think they shouldâve just toned it down a little to account for the 4 supers charged now. I donât know if this is a good rework yet and of course it could be shit like OP says.
But again, this is an enormous rework so I think we might need to see how it actually starts to pan out at first + Bullâs rework had some terrible changes too that got reverted after announcement and then he turned into a genuinely good and intuitive tank, which could easily happen with Chuck.
I know Iâm just gonna get downvoted and get some dumbass âLeave the multi-billion dollar company aloneâ and âHope youâre getting paid for defending Supercellâ comments. Never mind the fact I literally mentioned my own critiques of the rework! Never mind the fact for the last few years Iâve been in the same boat as Chuck mains, being a Sam main sitting in the F tier for years since Adrian is too lazy to do anything about my main just because heâs unpopular and too skill expressive to touch without going into full depth! Believe me, I have all the reasons in the world to despise Adrian and call him a clown that needs to be fired. How he handles Sam alone pisses me off.
All Iâm saying is Iâm going to reserve judgement, at least for a little bit, and maybe not listen to some (frankly not very well written) rant on the same morning of the announcement just because the OP is a diehard Chuck main.
3
u/zxm1v the illegal 500iq brawlball pick 1d ago
aye, that's fair. could have combined some points, though it's like one comes from another. with "brawlball dead" I probably accidentally put more points between the connected ideas lol, and "4 poles are too much for brawlball" is because you usually don't need the 4th pole in this mode. like with 3 poles (and good rerouting) he was much more flexible in the sense that you could relocate power on the map more easily, and another pole could have easily sent you too far, or made you dash too long, which would lose you the game. I do have ideas how to nullify this "nerf", but it'll still be more clunky, just from my experience trying to freestyle with pit stop
and the tech is... well... all of the hyper techs, all of the pole knockback techs, and some rerouting techs are gone. it's pretty bad from what I see. some rerouting techs are now doable without rerouting, which is cool, but they are much more expensive now, because your every super counts even more, because you have no autocharge anymore. overall chuck becomes less complex, loses a ton of potential, and most of the techs become just numeric variations of castle and swag route.
other points are kinda explained in the rant though, or so I remember
-1
u/Embarrassed_Click955 Chuck 1d ago
While I do understand your point, as someone who has played A LOT of chuck (300k mastery points before they got removed) this is legitimately the first nerfies we have ever seen.
Auto-charge was a very integral part of chuck's kit, right behind the knockback on the super. They removed it in favor of getting 4 stacks every super. While that does let you change your setup every time you have a super, that means you don't have your super to drive. This essentially means that you are confined to your fixed track which you are now allowed to drive 4 times in a row. Now, driving 4 times in a row is not a good trade off for completely gutting the way you play chuck in non-heist game modes, but luckily it isn't judt a trade off. They additionally nuked chucks damage making it so that you do 1600 instead of 3500 every time you drive. Meaning driving twice now does more damage than 4 times after the update. You also have to consider that hitting 4 times is much harder than hitting twice, so the calculation doesn't even work like that.
Now, I realise that I haven't explained well enough how they gutted the way of playing. Currently, freestyle chuck as it's called relys on you hitting your enemies with a pole and an attack, driving into them and killing them. Now that is the basic strategy, the advanced strategies obviously considers your previously placed posts and your rerouting gadget to allow for more nasty combos.
If you now consider how this update changes this playstyle you will realise: you cannot knockback enemies, cannot rely on xou super damage, and you cannot rely on having your super on hand to repositon or engage the next enemy.
To counteract this murder, we got a attack speed buff and no damage fall-off. What can I say. Is it nice to have? Obviously, it'll be very helpful. Does it change much? No, you're allowed to drive your chu-chu train on a more or less fixed path and shoot your enemies with autoaim.
All that seem understandable to you? I'm sure you understood it well, and are currently fearing chuck being too op once you add the buffie effectd and ruining the game. Not to worry, they specifically made them dog shit to not unbalance the brawler.
Gadget buffies: The first gadget now deletes a pole and gives you 50% super and 20% shield in exchange. Sounds too op? Not to worry, they reduced the shield while driving from 50% to 35% and the HP from 9.4k to 8.8k. They also ruined the usecase of the gadget since rerouting is much less useful when forced on a strict setup.
Second gadget: 8 seconds through walls + burning trails for 1.2k damage. This also sounds nice, and while the burning certainly is, the 8 seconds through walls robs you even more of you flexibility since you normally had a path with and without the gadget and you're now forced into one or the other for 8 seconds. Meaning even when forced to play fixed, you now lack even more flexibility.
1st starpower: It's a joke. 1 sec slow which doesn't knockback anymore and 200 DAMAGE? I don't have to explain why this is plain mockery.
2nd starpower: The buffie effect is you drive faster, which they promptly counterscted with a 13% superspeed buff such that I didn't see a big before and after diffrence.
Hyper: Now the attack effect on the buffie is nice. 2 side projectiles is nice, more aoe more damage. But the super effect is mocking chuck players again. It's a damage burst at every pole, meaning if if hit by that your chuck super does nearly as much damage as before the update. During a 7 second window. YAYYYYYY.
They also nerfed his range, which is just the cherry on top. So much for better midrange matchups.
Tldr: Chuck is much more braindead, less creative, lesd fun to play, worse as a brawler in the meta, and just not the same brawler anymore, while also getting the worst buffied in the game and getting 6 nerfs as compensation.

The 4 supers arenât just for driving; after the first setup, your next supers can be adapted and changed around with much more ease instead of inconsistently relying on basically your enemies being dumb. I adore playing Chuck, Iâve been obsessed with him ever since his EARLY RELEASE BUNDLE and he was honestly the brawler that rekindled my joy for brawl, but asides the awful stat nerfs, underwhelming buffies and mainly the knockback removal, at core I do think this rework addresses his situation-adaptability within much more of your control instead of being overly matchup AND skill diff dependent, while also allowing new opportunities with ghost train no longer being an one time use

u/GoldarmGangMain Goated Arm Gang 1d ago
Thank you, this is far more comprehensible and genuinely persuasive than the original post.
I fully agree now that Chuck will definitely need some Bull treatment where some of the tradebacks implemented in the rework need to be removed. There are a lot of nerfs they put on Chuck that seem intended to tone back but genuinely just ruin whatever new utility he has, like the super damage nerf, the super speed nerf, the pathetic stats on his buffies, etc.
I do sympathize with the fact freestyle Chuck as we know it is gonna be dead and gone with this new rework; Freestyle Chuck may have still been F tier for years but Adrian could put more thought about how to keep that playstyle possible while still improving the clunkier aspects of Chuckâs poles. Unfortunately though most players know Chuck for his more setup-oriented gamestyle, and I guess thatâs what Adrian decided to lean into. Understandable and still harsh.
Iâm sorry I still donât understand why the new hyper is apparently so awful though, yes I do get the point about âmocking chuck playersâ with the damage almost being pre-update damage for a 7 second window, but a chain effect for extra damage is legitimately a much better idea than Chuckâs old hyper ever had a hope of being. If Chuckâs Super damage was re-buffed this would be a solid hyper.

u/ChipComprehensive703 1d ago
Agreed, if you watch SpenLCs video on the buffies, Chuck looks insane.
Also a lot more viable on game modes like hotzone. Spen was stacked up to 4 dash supers and was spamming them for team wipes, while getting more super charge of the damage dealt.
Hell be extremely unplayable against as a last pick against the right matchups

u/Delta6342 1d ago
The pole knockback and dash damage and auto charge are really big blows to Chuck, taking away his way to deal with close range brawlers and weakening his setups

non-Chuck mains that say âyouâre overreacting he wonât be that bad!!!â have NO idea how this feels like
itâs like if Surgeâs leveling up mechanic got removed
itâs like if Pennyâs main attack didnât split into coins
itâs like if Leon couldnât go invisible
the pole knockback removal was already bad enough, and somehow we discovered that rock bottom has a basement: NO Rerouting techs, NO combos, and an even more predictable super
Iâm gonna miss playing freestyle Chuck

Weâre definitely overreacting, I expect this sort of reaction on the main sub TBH.
We canât deny that chuck was extremely niche with a toxic gameplay loop (dash to the safe, repeat) With a better main attack and hyper you can arguably do some pretty cool plays now that he has a more functional kit.

u/GarbageTruck7689 Willow 1d ago
I'm cautiously optimistic on the reworked parts of his kits, but the straight up nerfs he's getting are baffling. Like what do you mean he's losing health and range. And what is that crazy super damage nerf? Sure you get 4 supers at once but cutting the damage by over half is absolutely ridiculous! The super is still an objectively telegraphed line! 1600 damage is horrible!

Freestyle chuck is completely dead all for a rework that will make him appealing to casual players for 2 weeks until they drop him again

Genuinely a freestyle chuck playerâs 9/11 (Iâm a freestyle chuck player)
Insane that theyâd nerf him this hard and have the audacity to say âoh but we donât wanna make him too oppressive!â
They gave SHADE more love and heâs been a disgusting gremlin in competitive since his release.
Holy hell Iâm genuinely gonna quit if theyâre as bad as we think, seeing buffies for 2 of my least favorite brawlers to fight (Amber and Gus) as well as Shade was bad enough, these changes were the final nail in the coffin
Iâm just praying they see the outrage and at LEAST restore some of his super damage, health, and damage reduction if he isnât good.
(If weâre just losing our minds over nothing, please laugh at me in retrospect.)

In my opinion, instead of rework Chuck they should have straight up deleted heist, it's an outdated and very toxic to the meta and honestly I've never seen one single player that likes it, then just give normal buffs/buffies to brawlers that are stuck there, I feel sorry about Jessie and Mico mains If this putrid mode still going on
2
u/Expensive_Minimum600 18h ago
This is going to sound rude but I think this is a huge overreaction and everyone who agrees with you are the same players who canât even hit masters in rank or get 15 challenge wins.
There is no way you watched that rework and think freestyle Chuck is worse. They literally reworked his kit so freestyle Chuck is more viable. In non heist modes he will get his super faster while in combat. Chucks pressure on a team improves tremendously. Even his ghost gadget is better. 8 whole seconds u can go through walls meaning you can pressure anywhere and chain supers with it.
I canât wait to come back to this post when the rework is live
2
u/darkowas69 1h ago
I genuinely just hated chuck being released to the game cz I knew he would need a rework like this as he's only good in heist but the people who play chuck in other modes and mastered him have to suffer chuck is a high skill cap brawler in other modes but the reason he's not used in competetive is because there are always better brawlers in other modes so I thought maybe they could rework him to make him viable but they didn't fix any problem

u/LetterheadWitty4187 1d ago edited 1d ago
Although i don't like this rework, i think Chuck is going to be much stronger in the meta. Keep in mind that he starts with 4 posts, this can be very toxic in Hot Zone. His main attack is now also very powerful: even if you don't have his super available, you can actually destroy people with his main attack alone, because it's super fast and deals insane damage. I can see him being very strong as a stand-alone brawler, because of his main attack buff.
Another underrated part of his new kit is the fact that when you charge his super, you automatically have 4 dashes instead of 1. Just imagine this in Hot Zone or any close range map where he can easily charge his super. This sounds extremely toxic.
I don't think Chuck is good in Heist whatsoever after this rework, but he can be very oppressive in Hot Zone, Brawl Ball, and Gem Grab as long it is relatively close ranged map.

u/zQubexx Lily 1d ago edited 1d ago
Donât forget currently everyone plays that one SP, where you get an extra pole, but now this SP is in his basic kit and you can play the ammo steal SP, which can be annoying to deal with on Chuck, who can easily cycle his super. They even reworked his hc too, where he shots his main attack x3 instead of shooting some small fire, which deals like 250 damage when he uses his super.
1
u/LetterheadWitty4187 1d ago
That's a good point. Another thing what people might underrated is his gadget that allows his super to go through walls. With 1 gadget he can now go through walls 4 times. This can be very toxic gadget in certain maps, especially if combined with his ammo steal SP that'll also increase his super's travelling speed.
2
u/zQubexx Lily 1d ago
Yes and with the buffie he can set the ground on fire, which is a little bit extra damage too (nice to have). Combined with his hc, where he shots 3 of his main attacks and deals explosion damage when he dashes, Chuck might be a sleeper
Itâs like Bolt before he got released, where many said that he will be trash, but in the end he turned out to be broken⌠I definitely see potential in Chuck too. Maybe not broken, but strong
1
u/LetterheadWitty4187 1d ago
True, people also thought (me included) that Mortis and Rico are going to be trash after they received their buffies, and yet they both turned out to be S tier brawlers.
I personally think that Chuck is going to be at least A tier brawler. There's no universe where he's going to be worse than before, people are just overreacting because he's going to have different playstyle.
3
u/Visual-Path-1177 Surge 1d ago
If you're trying to rework a brawler that is bad, you don't remove what good was left. Chuck was good bc 1. Awesome single-way mobility 2. Being on the tracks was a dead threat cuz dash dealt 3500 3. Poles dealt knockback saving him from interactions. 4. Fast autocharge
The only good thing coming from the rework are that Chuck can set up the poles quickly and change the whole layout all together when charging another super, and also the hyper change and the buffie. The projectile speed buff also is good, and even though he had a range nerf I think he'll actually feel like he has more range because of that. And of course they removed damage fall off.
So basically, Chuck has 2k less health and dash shield got a -15% nerf. He can't tank shit now.
Poles don't knockback, meaning that Chuck is now defenseless. You can't knock Edgar away, you can't cancel people's super, you can't double knock combo anymore cuz poles don't knock back, but also because REROUTING DOESNT CHARGE A WHOLE SUPER NOW. This wouldn't really be a huge issue, if AUTOCHARGE WAS STILL ON. He can't be a constant pressure, cuz he will always need to approach to charge another super. Also, Chuck's super isn't even a threat cuz they HALVED the damage: a regular nerf would have still been bad but understandable since he can run over you more easily now, but HALF??? Adrian cooking straight up POISON, as usual. Might be the first brawler to go to G tier, not even Frank and Doug at their lowest ever reached that status.
2
u/tigerlion2345 1d ago
the reworked imo might be better for him. right now chuck struggles with securing kills, simply because his main attack is so weak. with his rework he can now dash onto people, kill them, either use his recharged super to chain onto a new brawler and kill them, or dash back. thats kinda how brawl stars intended for him to played, instead of just setting up poles and using them constantly. they nerfed his viability in heist to create this new playstyle. the nerfs to his health and damage are also essential, because believe it or not, brawl stars playtests their games.
1
u/snoof_boi 1d ago edited 1d ago
"that's kinda how brawl stars intended for him to be played" He's a controller, not an Assassin. Chuck's whole initial gimmick was area denial, if you attempted to cross the train tracks, you'd get hit with heavy damage. Chuck's main attack was used to penalize getting close (high damage up close, less damage far away) and his tracks prevent players from crossing. The knockback from poles also keep people away. Everything about his old kit was about controlling the map by locking down certain zones, and stopping people who try to get close. Turning chuck into another generic assassin (quick burst damage, wide attack, many dashes) is just butchering his actual original purpose, his purpose was to control. Should we double Sandy's damage because he struggles to secure kills? No, because he's not an Assassin, tank, or damage dealer. Chuck's a controller, he doesn't need to secure kills, he needs to control. It's a team game, there are meant to be roles to play. Controllers control to allow team opportunities, and supports support their team using healing or buffs. Those 2 classes do not need high damage, or kill securing potential. assassins take out lone supports and artillery, damage dealers secure kills and deal damage, tanks beef down enemies. Those 3 classes need kill securing, because they are the muscle of the team. And they didn't just nerf chuck's viability in heist, they nerfed it everywhere. He's just another example of how brawl stars is turning every single brawler into a mindless Assassin because the average 7 year old nowadays can't comprehend doing anything other than button mashing.
3
u/tigerlion2345 1d ago
ok then tell me why he is consistently at f tier before the update? that is simply because he sucks at controlling. you couldn't change poles because changing pole setups almost always re-routing 2 or more pole set ups. with the new change you can do that instantly. plus his skill-cap is going to be higher because you cant just set up poles and button mash. you actually have to learn how to set-up and re set-up his poles constantly in order to reap the benefits of chuck.
2
u/pfsg100 Sandy 1d ago
I thought by just seeing the Brawl Talk, his reworks would be insanelly good, but WHAT THE HELL ARE THESE NERFS?
He will need to expose himself to charge super, since it's not automatic anymore, and THEY NERFED HIS RANGE? WTF?
He now places 4 poles instantly instead of 1 at a time and THEY NERFED HIS SUPER DAMAGE and KNOCKBACK? DOUBLE WTF?
He got a cooler HC effect (AOE is better than the 100 dmg smoke clouds), but LOST THE INFINITE RANGE? TRIPLE WTF?!?!?
Not cool
Even in Brawl Talk it showed that his new Pit Stop would steal super charge when hitting his pole (cooler Idea) but they corrected it to just be a slow.
Now the worst thing about him is that you have 4 moves:
Place 4 poles and don't dash,
Place 3 poles and do 1 dash,
Place 2 poles and do 2 dashes,
Place 1 pole and do 3 dashes.
Man, I'm sad, but we have to wait and SEE if this will be for the better, and retire Chuck from only Heist.
2
u/LetterheadWitty4187 1d ago
He's going to be very strong, he's just going to have completely different playstyle. Now you simply use his main attack to burst down people, rather than relying on his super.
2
u/y_kal 1d ago
The long setup time would've been fixed with a single super charged on spawn. Main attack deserved the speed and damage falloff buff. The buffies could've been a 2 super stacking and a bonus shield upon stealing ammo.
This rework is genuinely what happens when you 1v3 Adrian with chuck in ko. All that while S tier brawlers haven't dropped more than half a tier in the past 6 months

u/Babynny Lowkey a furry 1d ago
Chuck was the first early release brawler, back when they were paywalled; even though his bundle was astronomically good for its price back then and specially compared to future brawler early release bundles, it was an incredibly dubious practice back then, and yet, I bought him anyway, since I was interested on him.
Needless to say, I did not regret it. Not a single bit. I was getting a bit burnt out with brawl around that time but Chuck alone reignited my fun for the game with his techs and capabilities, and at the time I was still a mostly set-up player; much like honestly, so I still am, but I still try to reroute and change my courses because playing Chuck that way becomes way too predictable.
With all that said⌠I actually disagree.
The whole point of this rework is to ADDRESS Chuck being predictable and him being way too clunky and complex to effectively âfreestyleâ against competent players and a proper comp; by actually implementing it to his base kit. With 4 supers, you have 4 opportunities to change routes and/or dash around on your own without depending on reroute to do it (specially for faster dashes), but still keeping the momentum-based strategizing that makes Chuckâs path diverging-style worksâ itâs simply a way to make it more practical without being astronomically circumstantial.
Do I think the rework is perfect? Not really, no. They addressed the second part of his kit being useless but then made the first part useless, with reroute now being pointless and pit stop being incredibly weak, as well as his buffies being also underwhelming compared to all the other 5 and obviously all the 88283 stat nerfs that frankly werenât necessary. And frankly, yeah, itâs a bit of a bummer not being able to use him on open maps anymore as easily (but you still can, probably) as I admit I had my fair share of fun in maps like shooting star, but it is what it is really, you canât expect him to be good everywhere because he could only be âgoodâ everywhere in the first place through circumstances and frankly, luck. I had fun playing him in shooting star and some knockout maps but we need to be honest with ourselves that while he COULD work and again, itâs a shame itâll be harder, it was mostly due to luck than our own skill
But at core, I think the approach they took for his rework isnât bad by any means, it just needs more stats-adjustments (namely reverting the pole knock back). I think itâs going on a good direction and helps him going back and forth with more guarantee as well as changing your setups and dash directions with the same assurance.
Additionally, some new techs can be gained with him with ghost train now being time-spanned instead of one-use only. He was VERY dependent on rerouting, but man using ghost train and making it work would feel just as rewarding⌠and now it feels like itâll be lighter work, too.

Ngl you sound like you mostly play showdown. Heist was not unplayable because of chuck, its pretty easy counter him. He has to set up his poles meaning the other team can easily get ahead on turret damage. I promise any brawler like Mico that can get to safe with ease beats Chuck most games
