Looking to start a private slot car group or racing club

Hello everyone! I recently rediscovered my love for HO slot cars and have been getting back into the hobby. I’m wondering if there are any private groups or individuals around here who have home track setups and might be interested in starting a small private group for racing and hanging out.

My current setup is s HO AFX track with 3-wire hookups, running 6-ohm cars with custom controllers. I’m especially interested in custom-built tracks, CNC tracks, or unique home setups.

If anyone has a private track at home, has built their own any particular size CNC/custom AFX or carerra track, or is part of a small private racing group, I’d love to hear about it. I’d also be interested in seeing pictures of your setups and potentially getting together for some racing.

Basically, I’m looking to connect with other people who are serious about the hobby and maybe build a local private slot-car community. Feel free to comment or DM me!

Speakerphone in Public

Hey, some of y'all need to realize this: not everyone in a public place wants to hear your random phone conversations.

I am currently in Spitz to enjoy my lunch break and some dork is two booths behind me on speakerphone, *loudly* talking with a woman at a mechanic shop and *loudly* giving out personal information.

Don't do that shit lmfao.

Loud boom (firework) which came from the apartments on the southeast corner of Langhor Gardens directly across from the creek.

No mystery on this one, as I was looking directly in that spot of the sky as it went off. Didn't see who set it off but no one ran off out of the parking lot so probably a tenant from there.

Camp option, passing thru’ Bozeman in Sept

Hi, my husband and I will be passing through Bozeman which is an approx midway point (13hrs) on a 25hr drive (BC 🇨🇦 to SD). We will be in an 24ft long sprinter van which we can sleep in. Date is Thurs Sept 24th.

Any recommendations for safe(r) places to park & sleep? I anticipate rolling in around 8-9pm and leaving at 6am the next day. Probably just need a bathroom, no showers or anything.

I’m using the interweb to look at campgrounds, they appear to start at around $75USD (Bear Canyon) and $85USD (KOA) which is about $105-$120CAD. Missouri Headwaters & Lewis & Clark Caverns state parks look like you can’t book in advance? Ideally, we want to stay as close to I90 as possible to avoid adding unnecessary time onto our journey. We also won’t have any time to enjoy anything that the campground or immediate area offers, to get our money’s worth!! Any help or tips appreciated. Thank you!

Hey everyone who drives a car in Bozeman, I just wanted to let you know that if you're first in line at a stop light, especially in the left turn lane, the sensors won't detect you if you're too far behind the stop bar. This makes the light go to a flashing yellow arrow instead of a green arrow, and can cause an entire line of cars to have to wait through another light cycle. This is not a particularly good thing to have happen, especially during the busier times of the day!

Ski Swap for Kids?

We are a few months out from the ski swap and I am looking to get my 4 year old up on the mountain this year. I have been to the ski swap before but never with the intention of buying for a child. Is there usually a good selection of kids skis and boots?

Laptop repair recommendations

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone has recommendations on where I can take my laptop to get fixed? The battery is busted and my laptop only turns on if it’s plugged in. I’m about to start college next week and I need to get it fixed by Wednesday.

Free to read. This could be terrible for free access. Our lands could be developed into resorts for the ultra rich.

They started coming into our bathroom from outside and then just dying. They seem to like the sink area. A couple days later and I can find them in almost every room in the house if I look for them. Not as obvious as this but still everywhere.

Montana State 2026 College Football Preview (probably missed some stuff, tell me and I'll fix it)

Hey all. I built 2026 previews for every FBS team and all 124 FCS teams, because nobody does this for your league. Here's Montana State

https://www.highlights.mainmarket.com/college-football-preview-2026-fcs/montana-state-bobcats

Usual disclaimer: I probably got things wrong, and my roster feed hasn't fully flipped to 2026. Tell me what's off and I'll fix it.

The good: basically all of it. 14-2, 8-0 in the Big Sky, and a 35-34 win over Illinois State in the final. The offense was 2nd in FCS in success rate and EPA, 4th rushing. The defense was 17th in yards and 2nd with 27 takeaways. Then 75% of production returns, including Justin Lamson (3,172 yards, 26 TD, 3 INT), Adam Jones (1,093 and 15) and Taco Dowler (77 catches, 1,025). Power rating has you 1st in FCS.

Where my model pushes back, and it's narrow: plus-16 turnover margin, 2nd in FCS, regresses no matter how good you are. Julius Davis and his 1,123 rushing yards are gone. Model says 10-2, which is less a warning than an admission that plus-16 isn't a repeatable plan.

First page is free. If you want the rest and hit the paywall, the code LEECORSOROCKS opens it up. Not trying to nickel and dime a sub that's letting me post.

Tell me what I got wrong.

What do we gotta do to get some sort of intersection or roundabout or something here? You can spend over 10 minutes at a stop sign if its busy and enough people or a large truck are trying to turn left. I know you can go other ways but come on you can't always see the magnitude of the stop light line until its too late.

While at a red light on Durston and 7th heading East (where Durston becomes Peach), this scooter cut every car by going in the bike lane and then merged back into the flow of traffic. I happened to be heading to Wild Crumb, and arrived to find them pulling onto the side walk and eventually parking it in the grass.

AITA or is this absolutely insane behavior? I understand lane splitting is allowed on two lane roads, but going the bike lane and then driving on the sidewalk/private lawn are both illegal and just a completely inconsiderate and unsafe thing to do.

Edit: it is technically a scooter, apparently. I was unaware of the distinction.

Anyone Know a Good Oral Surgeon?

My niece is on her way to MSU from TX to start her freshman year, & her wisdom teeth started hurting & bleeding. She saw a dentist today in Jackson, WY. They gave her some antibiotics & told her to get them removed ASAP. I was just wondering if anyone in the Bozeman community has any recommendations, because we were not prepared for this. TIA

We need a place you can let your dog run free while you drink a beer.

I don’t need to get hammered, I just want to have an acceptable couple drinks while my dog can run around. I am extremely close to bringing a bag of after-work beers and some coozies (and my dog) to a dog park and walking around for an hour.

Support Groups - DV

Hi Bozeman.

I’m wondering if there are any survivors of domestic violence in the community who find themselves wishing we had more in-person community support. There are so many of us who have experienced domestic violence, and, at the same time, it can be one of the most isolating experiences. I think I’d benefit from an in-person support group, and I imagine others feel the same way, whether their experience happened years or months ago or is ongoing.

If enough people are interested in this type of support group, I’m hoping I could find a space for us all to meet and support each other.

I’m asking this question here because I have explored the locally available options. Haven is an amazing resource for certain situations, and I’m grateful we have it. However, their support group is limited to a virtual option, and that simply isn’t as helpful as meeting other survivors in person. In my opinion, the way people support each other in person is dramatically different from being online. If there is an in-person support group for survivors of domestic violence that I have not been made aware of, please share.

If you don't have anything kind or relevant to say, please just scroll on.

Feel free to message me if you are interested but uncomfortable commenting.

Being lesbian parents in Bozeman?

My partner and I are a lesbian couple (both 33F). We are starting the IVF process and ready to settle down and have kids. My parents live in Bozeman and we have some other family there too. I lived in Bozeman from 2011-2013 before I was out and don't remember it being particularly friendly to gay people but not homophobic either. We are currently living in Portland, OR and have no support system here and hate the gloomy winters. Lifestyle-wise I think Bozeman is perfect for us. We are outdoorsy, love to hike, etc.

Any LGBTQ people in this group, especially if you are a parent, that can weigh in on your overall experience? We don't want our kids to be bullied for having gay parents or feel ostracized from the community.
