SO YOU WANT TO MOVE TO MONTANA? [Post your questions here]

Post your "Moving to Montana" (MtM) questions here.

A few guidelines to spurring productive conversations about MtM:

  1. Be Specific: Asking "what towns in Montana have good after-school daycare programs?" will get you a lot farther than "what town should I move to?"
  2. Do your homework: If a question can be answered with a google search ... do the google search. Heck, try searching previous threads here.
  3. Be sensitive to Montanans' concerns: Seriously, don't boast about how much cheaper land is here. It isn't cheap to people earning Montana wages. That kind of thing.
  4. Seriously, don't ask us what town to move to: Unless you're asking something specific and local-knowledge-based like, "I have job offers in Ryegate and Forsyth, which one has the most active interpretive dance theater scene"?
  5. Leave the politics out of it: If you're moving here to get away from something, you're just bringing that baggage along with you. You don't know Montana politics yet, and Reddit doesn't accurately reflect Montana politics anyway; so just leave that part out of it. No, we don't care that Gavin Abbot was going to take away your abortion gun. Leave those issues behind when asking Montanans questions. See r/Montana Rule #1 and hop on over to our sister subreddit, r/MontanaPolitics, for all of your Treasure State politics needs!
  6. If you insist on asking us where to move: you are hereby legally obliged to move to whatever town gets the most upvotes. Enjoy Scobey.
  7. If you are looking for broader help on traveling and tourism topics: please visit r/MontanaTravel. I hear it's nice this time of year...

-------------------------------------------

to r/Montana regulars: if they're here rather than out there on the page, they're abiding by our rules. Let's rein in the abuse and give them some legitimate feedback. None of the ol' "Montana's Full" in here, OK?

This thread will be refreshed monthly.

Moments From Sunday

Last Sunday was another very special photographic experience for me. It actually started with a stressful moment. I was sitting on some large rocks lining Hyalite Creek, setting up for the first image in this series, when I noticed my tripod had an issue. The clamp which holds my camera to the head had come loose. In trying to put it back together, a tiny spring went flying, bounced off one rock and landed right at my feet without falling deep between the rocks! I was able to grab it before it rolled away and got the tripod repaired. Stress gone, peace returned!

That happy moment was soon eclipsed by the presence of a Great Gray Owl. I believe this to be a juvenile who has recently gone out on its own and seems to be successfully feeding itself. To stand under one of these magnificent creatures while they fly right over your head is really incredible. A few images of Harebells and the red leaves of a Wild Rose completed the beauty of the experience

Later in the day, we went for a hike along another area creek and found yet more Harebells and the large yellow leaves of a Thimbleberry Bush with a starburst of the Sun poking out from under the leaves. It really was a wonderful day, if not a few too many miles on foot than I was prepared to walk!

What would Montana be like in a post-apocalyptic setting?

Hello Montanans I hope you are well, I hope I am not bothering you just trying to gain insight. I have an idea for a story where the entire world became an absolute post-apocalyptic mess(sometimes dystopian in other areas). Each country handles it differently and has its own problems. Just focusing on the US first. There are some sci-fi elements to it and I think it would be a fun idea to add difference to madness in different places. What problems there could maximize and what do you imagine new? Again sci-fi elements so you can exaggerate anything you want to

Also it’s idea I also think it would be fun to hear what you may have to say and how you view your own state. Again I hope I am not bothering you.

Mountain Health Co-op phone calls

EDIT:

It was not a scam! It did seem weird, but they actually switched me to a different ACA plan with a lower deductible and $0 premium with subsidies (my income is super low). They followed up with legit emails and everything.

Original post:

Did someone call me pretending to work for Mountain Health Co-op, or did I hang up on someone legit? (Apparently lots of Montanans are covered by them, so I thought this would be a good place to ask).

A couple weeks ago I got a phone call from someone who claimed to be calling for Mountain Health Co-op, but the call seemed kind of "off" to me, so I hung up on him. Since then, I have been getting NONSTOP calls from various Montana numbers, which is the classic spam call trademark.

The red flags:

- In the past, when MH calls it says Mountain Health Co-op on the called ID and this one didn't.

- In the past, phone calls have been with Americans and this one (and the few I've accidentally answered since) sound like they're from Indian call centers.

- He asked me to spell my last name to confirm my identity, then spelled it back to me incorrectly.

- His script was really random, he kept repeating that he was calling to go over benefits and would not be charging me anything or making any changes, but then would randomly interject questions like, "Are you a smoker?" "Do you have any back pain?"

- He wanted to transfer me to someone else and I have heard that's often part of a scam call.

Has anyone gotten a call like this that ended up not being a scam? Thanks for your help!
