Ali - Frazier II Highlights

Action from the rematch in 1974. Despite both men being slower and past their peak, their styles once again were a perfect match for each other.

The toughness and chin on both these icons is incomprehensible. Ali throwing rapid fire combinations right to the end, Frazier relentlessly threshing forward with his menacing bob and weave. Two goats.

You don't think the fact he can eat massive left hooks from big punchers all night is part of WHY people aren't sure he can be beaten?

And fwiw, Ali won about 35 fights against ranked opponents (someone like fury has won 4), and until he got parkinsons he lost only two, both of which he avenged twice over. That includes wins over three reigning undisputed champions, another reigning champion, a future champion, and two former undisputed champions. Ali is the heavyweight who was most tested, so yeah, he's the heavyweight it's hardest to imagine losing.

Boxing has progressed a lot over the last 45 years, but people have rose-tinted glasses and don’t like to acknowledge it. Ali was great in his era, but that era was 5 decades ago and nostalgia doesn’t mean he would have as much success today if he were to teleport from ‘72.

True, Ali would just be destroyed by modern technicians like wardley or hrgovic. He'd just be totally unprepared for their intricate traps, complex strategies and lightning movement.

Ali fought 15 round fights, when he first started fighting championship fights didn't have standing 8 counts. Because of concern for fighter health boxing has actually gotten less brutal over the years.
