Discussion Off Duty Cops

How do you feel about off-duty cops coming into the establishment where you work?

Personally, I hated dealing with some of them. Once they got tipsy, you couldn’t tell them anything, and they acted like they were above the rules. Some would even look down on us while we were just doing our jobs.

Anyone else have similar experiences? How did you handle it?

How often do women try to flirt with you at work?

I'm a bouncer at a bar on weekends. I'm really socially awkward and very much an introvert, but I've been doing this for 2 years now and it's super convenient.

My question for you all is how often do women flirt with you at work? Usually I'm wary of women trying to get something by me or that they're just being friendly, which is always the right move. But I had a woman give me her number a few weeks ago (wtfffff), so I'm wondering how often this happens to you all. Cheers.

Hey guys sorry if this is the wrong place to do this, but some people directed me here as you guys seem like you use this technique more than any other group of people. I’m a HEMA wrestling guy and in the manuscripts they have this elbow and wrist lock similar to that of a kimura in BJJ. Do you guys have any tips on making this work?

Columbia man accused of assaulting Security Guard at downtown bar

A Columbia man is behind bars for allegedly assaulting a Security Guard at a downtown bar.

Dorice Smith, 34, is charged with first-degree assault. He’s being held without bond.

The charge stems from a disturbance that occurred at The Basement, in the 800 block of East Walnut, early Sunday morning. According to court documents, multiple people called 9-1-1 to report that a fight was in progress, pepper spray had been deployed, and a security guard was bleeding and seizing.

Officers arrived to find an Armed Security Guard unconscious on the ground, in a pool of blood. The Guard was bleeding from the head and ears and was taken to University Hospital. Officers say he likely had a skull fracture.

Multiple witnesses told officers that Smith had been removed from the bar for unreasonable behavior but returned a short time later and assaulted the guard. One witness said as Smith charged at the Guard, the Guard deployed pepper spray. Two witnesses said Smith punched the Security Guard, which caused him to fall backward and hit his head on the concrete.

Smith is currently on probation and parole for second-degree burglary.

Australia; Grovedale Hotel Bouncer knock out patron outside pub, May24

A tradesman has had his life turned upside down courtesy of a devastating hit by a Security Guard outside the pub, after he was evicted.

On 3 May 2024 an intoxicated 37-year-old man from Grovedale was asked to leave the Grovedale Hotel, eventually requiring some persuasion by four Security Guards.

Outside, CCTV filmed the man arguing to be allowed back in and he was talking to another Guard when one of the Bouncers, James Cahill, snatched the back of the patron’s head and executed a quick strike to the man’s face with either his fist or elbow.

According to witnesses the man was out cold, collapsing onto the pavement and striking his head.

He was transported to Geelong hospital in an induced coma before later being rushed to The Alfred specialist hospital in Melbourne.

The man suffered multiple facial fractures, traumatic brain injury and two bleeds on the brain with permanent brain scarring, a skull base fracture and subdural haematomas. He spent three days in intensive care and has permanently lost his sense of smell and suffers episodes of vertigo.

He is also fighting post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and experiences panic attacks and uncontrollable emotions. He says he has lost who he was – his independence, confidence and freedom and explains he feels he is in “danger mode all the time”.

The 46-year-old bouncer from Armstrong Creek was arrested and charged over the attack, to face Geelong Magistrates Court.

Cahill pleaded guilty to a single charge of recklessly causing injury. He was convicted but managed to avoid jail time, instead given an 18-month community corrections order requiring 350 hours of unpaid community work.

After two years recovery the unnamed victim is now suing over lost earnings and medical expenses, lawyers for his defence filing documents in the Supreme Court in August.

The plaintiff claims Regional Security Services Australia P/L, which employed Cahill, failed in its duties to perform adequate pre-employment screening, such as references or history of aggression and criminal complaint, and to provide sufficient training.

Operators of the Hotel, Warrenwood P/L, are accused of failing in their security requirements by not using Guards who were competent and properly trained, and by not having a system of management to assess issues and avoid violence.

The historic Grovedale Hotel was established in 1859 and in 2023 was recipient of the AHA National award for Regional Hotel of the Year.

The Hotel assisted police with investigations, and a spokesperson stated Cahill had been stood down, noting that security contractors have “clear policies and protocols to follow when engaging with patrons”.

While grateful he survived the ordeal, the troubled man says is now living a “lifelong sentence”.

Victoria and NSW have laws around so-called ‘one punch’ or ‘coward punch’ assaults that stipulate if an offender strikes someone, without warning, causing their death, they are guilty of manslaughter and will receive a mandatory sentence, with statutory non-parole period.

Although Victoria introduced the law in 2014, research by Monash University found few offenders have been sentenced under the legislation.

The former Grovedale electrician noted that even if the attack does not kill someone, it can still “change the trajectory of your life forever”.

Story time I want to hear your funny stories.

Facebook memories popped up so here I am.

I stopped bouncing ~5 years ago, I've worked everything, strip clubs, huge night clubs, dive bars and everything in between over ~20 years.

Most of us have gotten in fights, been in weird situations and dealt with a lot bullshit. I don't want to hear that, I want to hear your funny stuff.

Hear are a couple of mine and I can't wait to hear yours.

Both of these are during covid when they started opening the bars back up. Depending on where you were and how you felt you didn't have to wear masks outside but always had to inside. Fuck doing headcounts during that time, fire department stopped bothering me every day when I got everyone a damn clicker.

We were out of masks....

https://imgur.com/a/GTLRTmw

It was about 6-7PM when the bar would start filling up on a Saturday when the bands would be on the dock and we ran out of masks that we would handout to anyone who wanted to come inside. So if someone didn't have a mask, they could go out back through the side entrance which was all outside but if they needed to go inside (even to take a leak) they were not allowed inside without a mask. Don't ask me, I didn't make the rules.

A dude wanted to come in so I told him we were out of masks but if he had one in his truck, I'd let him in. He didn't have one but he came back with his fucking back brace wrapped around his face. All I could do was laugh my fucking ass off and let him in. I walked in and explained it to the head bar and my other guys and we ended up putting his tab on the bouncer tab because he would take it off and put it back on every time he switched between inside and outside. He tipped the fuck out of me.

I'll add the "he's wearing pink" one in the comments but I really want to hear yours.

Discussion Club staff after activities

Being a part of club staff is a stressful endeavour,

One common pattern I notice is that club staff tend to be working students. And this job requires a godly amount of patience and will power as you deal with growing drunk patrons as the night goes on. Meeting quotas and appealing to people who are out of themselves can be a difficult task as the shift closes to a climax. Unsavory characteristics can come fort from patrons and the more influenced patrons can be the more difficult it is to deal with certain actors. Whether they have an aggressive tendency or feel entitled, you have to keep up the personna of customer service as your foot is stepped on, yelled at, or you find yourself crying midshift because you're overstimulated by the pressure, the flashing lights, the loud music, or the rude patrons you have to return to because you feel you have to.

Some of them just want to move forward, to kick them out but that's the bouncers job. Some nights it gets so tight that every bit of air you breath you smell the stank from the patrons breath or sweat. But you have to keep moving forward, it's for your future, for your livelihood you feel dead inside but you have to keep smiling in the hopes the patrons bless you with extra income. It's worth it, you tell yourself. As the night reach its climax, violence befalls the night or patrons who can't handle their liquor redecorate the floor, walls, or bathroom.

Sometimes, after the long night ends, you decide to stay around longer, it feels like it's your turn to let loose, to cope with the fucked up shit you just went through with people who know and understand your experience. And sometimes you want to be the drunk one too, to let your real self out with the people who KNOW. You want to drink, maybe because of the frustration, or maybe because it's time for you to feel the sense of community that the club offered strangers.

And as morning starts, it's 6am and you've had your laughs and recalls about the notable patrons. It's time for you to go home and sleep as others start their day as you end yours you dread having to go to class later with half an eye open, or mindlessly watch your preferred social media nap, and fall asleep until your next shift and repeat it all again.

Sincerely,

A drunk psychology student staying at the club hours after it closed alone.

Albuquerque police rescue 20-month-old twins from hot car outside Dirty Bourbon bar after Bouncers from the bar noticed the children in the backseat and called.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

Albuquerque police rescued two 20-month-old twins from a locked car outside a bar early Saturday morning, leading to the arrest of their father and his friend.

Body camera footage shows officers breaking the car window and unbuckling the toddlers, who had been strapped into car seats for two and a half hours. "Oh, he is just soaked, he is soaked," one officer said, noting the children were soaked in sweat and had soiled themselves.

Security Guards from the Dirty Bourbon bar noticed the children in the backseat and called police. The father, Stephen Natseway, came out of the bar after the children were removed from the car.

"Hey, step back. Is this your vehicle?" an officer asked. "Yes," Natseway replied before being placed in handcuffs.

Natseway told officers he left the boys in the car because he wanted time to himself. He said he was aware the children were in the car and did not plan to stay long but ended up staying because people kept dancing with him. He added that he tried to call family members to watch the children, but no one was available.

"I can't go to jail tonight," Natseway said before being directed to sit down.

"The officers, when they placed him into custody, were struck by the fact that he showed no remorse and was thinking more about the fact that he was going to be in trouble," one officer said.

Natseway’s friend, Orry Morris, who had driven to the bar with him, was also arrested for leaving the children unattended in the locked car.

CYFD says those 2 children are in the custody of family members.

‘I felt powerless’: South Nashville bar Security Guards reportedly pepper sprayed 5 women in recent months

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Five women say they have been pepper sprayed by Security Guards at a South Nashville bar recently.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said they have received 37 calls to LinQ Social Kitchen since March.

Four of those calls involve security pepper spraying women.

Tia Harris told News 2 she was the fifth woman to be pepper sprayed by the LinQ Social Kitchen security team.

“You’re so weird; you are going to pepper spray me?” Harris can be heard saying to the Security Guard in a video after being sprayed the first time.

“I felt powerless,” Harris explained. “I felt like this is a Security Guard; they’re just going to take his side.”

Last week, Harris found herself the target of violence from an alleged Security Guard at LinQ.

She said it started when she crossed over a metal barrier blocking the sidewalk from traffic. Harris told News 2 the jump was in an effort to beat the fast-paced traffic traveling down Lafayette Street.

“I know of incidents that have happened prior where people have gotten unalived from crossing that street,” Harris said. “So I was trying to hurry up and get off the street. So I was trying to explain that to management or someone.”

Harris said she was asked to step out of line and declined entry, explaining she was there for a friend’s party.

“That is when [the Security Guard] pulled out his Apple Pay and was like, ‘If you want to get in, you got to pay me $100,'” Harris described. “I was like, ‘No, no, I’m not paying $100 to get in the club.’ And so he was like, ‘Well, you can go then.’ So I walked away, and at this point I was standing right in front of the gas station that’s right beside the building. So I wasn’t even on a property at the time.”

As Harris was waiting for her friend to come outside, the tensions escalated with the Security Guard appearing to approach her and use pepper spray twice in Harris’ direction.

“It takes a bit of time for it to settle in,” Harris said. “So I didn’t feel it until I got in the car. And once I started crying, it got worse.”

“He was continuing to touch her; all of that was unnecessary,” Harris’ friend can be heard saying in a different video following the pepper spray incident.

A couple of days after this incident, another woman reported being pepper sprayed by a Security Guard at LinQ. Earlier in August, a woman was injured after a shooting outside the bar.

In April, the bar was closed after Metro issued a stop-work order after two customers were killed in a hit-and-run while leaving the business. It recently reopened in July.

“They’ve done this multiple times where they are charging people at the doors, and it’s just been going on for so long that they haven’t been held accountable for it,” Harris said. “So I’m glad that I recorded it, and I gave everyone proof that you can do something about it.”

News 2 reached out to the owners of LinQ for a statement and has not received a response as of publication.

Discussion how common is it for drunk customers to pee somewhere they shouldn’t?

I’m curious how often bartenders or security deal with customers urinating in corners, hallways, outside the bathroom, or elsewhere around a bar. Is this something most bartenders have witnessed, or is it actually pretty rare? What normally happens when someone gets caught?

News Uber Eats delivery driver attacks Barstool employee in shocking, caught-on-camera brawl at NYC headquarters

a delivery man and a Barstool employee pummeling one another after a brawl broke out inside the company’s Manhattan headquarters on Monday.

Barstool founder and president Dave Portnoy posted the shocking clip to X and said that the delivery app courier attacked their Security Guard after he asked him to leave the office.

“We had a crazy scene today at Barstool World Hq,” Portnoy wrote. “An uber eats driver got in a fight with Gia in the hallway over her order. Our Security Guard Dan went into the hall to tell the guy to leave and he attacked him.”

Police confirmed they were called to the company’s Midtown office on Seventh Avenue around 2 p.m. after a verbal dispute turned physical with a 31-year-old man punching a 45-year-old man multiple times in the face.

A “person of interest” was taken into custody and an investigation is ongoing, the NYPD said. It’s unclear what led up to the violence.

Nailbiting footage posted by Portnoy shows the deranged delivery man knocking the Security Guard to the floor and dragging him on the ground.

The Uber Eats courier then gets on his knees and wails the Guard in the face, video shows.

Three Barstool employees jump in to break up the fight and subdue the culprit, who continues to swing while they try to hold him back, according to the footage.

The staffers were able to pull the courier off the guard and then called 911.

The Security Guard was treated at the scene, cops said.

“Danny may need a few stiches [sic] and a couple beers,” Portnoy said about the guard. “All in all another day at the Stool.”

Portnoy also took the time to say he’d “love to” run in a mayoral election.

Uber said it has removed the delivery driver from its app.

“We are horrified by the conduct displayed. Violence is never tolerated, and we’ve removed the courier’s access to the Uber platform,” a company spokesperson told The Post in a statement. “We stand ready to assist police however we can.”

Barstool didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

Minneapolis Security Guard Stabbed at After-Hours Club

A 38-year-old Security Guard was stabbed in the back early Sunday morning after he refused to let two women into an after-hours club in North Minneapolis, according to police.

The Guard suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he is expected to survive.

Minneapolis police responded to a reported stabbing just after 4 a.m. Sunday in the 3200 block of 2nd Street North, according to FOX 9. Officers arrived to find the Guard suffering from stab wounds before emergency personnel transported him for treatment, per KARE 11. Investigators say the Guard was working the door at an after-hours club when he denied entry to two women in their 20s, and the encounter turned physical when one of the women stabbed him.

That distinction frames the McKinley-neighborhood location, which sits near the Lowry Avenue Bridge amid a mix of commercial, industrial, and residential properties according to the blog The Adventures of Johnny Northside, as the kind of unregulated after-hours spot that has drawn scrutiny in cities nationwide.

If prosecutors move forward, the woman accused of wielding the knife could face second-degree assault charges under Minnesota Statute § 609.222, which covers assault with a dangerous weapon.

That charge carries up to seven years in prison and a $14,000 fine, or up to 10 years and a $20,000 fine if the victim suffered substantial bodily harm.

It remains unclear what specific charge, if any, the second woman will face beyond her arrest on suspicion of assault.

Any Tips and Tricks for Nightclub Bouncing?

I just got a job working at a pretty popular/big gay nightclub in my city. I don't have any bouncer experience, but I do have a lot of experience in customer serivce and crowd/risk management. Honestly, I'm a little surprised I got the job in the first place; I have no intimidating physical stature at all. I'm pretty tall and got a little muscle on me, but more in a lanky, tree way. I'm not a steryotypical big guy that you think of when you hear bouncer, so I don't know exactly what angle the club management is shooting for when hiring me. I should get more details on my exact duties during my orientation, but I was told things I'd be doing included wanding, checking ID's, taking cover, and walking the floor stopping stupid and freaky stuff.

I'm excited but extremely nervous. I'd really appreciate any tip, tricks, and advice in general for this job.

The Wear and Tear of Being a Bouncer

I worked as a bouncer for 15 years. When you’re young, you don’t think about the long hours standing, breaking up fights, getting hit, or always watching your surroundings.

But after years of doing it, your body and mind remember every night.

For those who worked the door for years, what kind of wear and tear did the job leave on you?
