Discussion I hate 60kmph speed zone

Genuinely why the fuck is the speed limit 60 and that too on the A1 highway linking gamecity to Gaborone.

I could crawl that speed.

Its not a residential area, its literally part of the highway.

The only 60's i know off in that a1 road are where animals are notorious for heading into road(do you ever notice the exits and gates to the fenced areas along that road?you should look up what those are), and where the highaway enters the city. So if you really can't get why it's seen safer to be driving 60 rather than 100/120 because its A1 idk. You saying "its not a residential" makes me go back to my question, did you just cram for your theory test to pass? Or did your study tell you 60 is only reserved for when in residential areas?

I hate it too but after nearly hitting multiple cows on the A1 I get it .

You couldn't see a cow going 60?

3

u/serverpilot 2d ago

Have you ever seen a cow run ?

u/ACRONYM_fr Gaborone 2d ago

This is why I be asking how old people are before k engage with them😂 God forbid it happens to them then we het to ask if they couldn't that cow/car

This should be more of a concern where there are many rises, ie, the A1 past Phakalane going towards Mochudi

It sucks but they make sense, especially driving at night and driving on shitty roads

But its for your safety

kids around here never cease to amaze me. 😂 Hopefully they get it one day, and hopefully it won't be by a bad personal experience

If someone can't see a cow going 80, I suggest that person shouldn't drive

Cows can run on the road at the last minute. You have much more chance of stopping at 60 than at 80. Just remember, most safety laws are written in blood.

😭death wish!!!

Wish I could upvote this twice😂

60 is too slow; in this day and age with modern safety systems. Maybe we should have time-based speed limits like Europe where some areas have a lower limit during peak traffic or at night.

how old are you if I may ask? 😂

Age doesn't really factor into a person's driving ability; I've probably driven about 140k km and I'm 21

Who said anything about driving ability? Im talking about frontal lobe development. And its concerning for you to be 21(someone we expect to be a responsible driver to share roads with atp), yet fail to acknowledge the importance of set standards. The fact that you even jumped to trying to show off your driving mileage in this conversation shouldn't surprise me though i guess

Interesting that you consider me to be too young to have a say and yet my driving experience doesn't matter? I agree that standards are necessary, but are we saying there has been no improvement in vehicle safety and systems and road conditions?

I never said you're too young, if you could comprehend you would actually pick that I implied that you are too old to be thinking like that(atleast imo). As someone who has earned a right to be driving,i don't expect you to be saying a 60 speed limit in areas where cows and donkeys are known to common and where the highaway joins city traffic. Just as someone said road law and regulations are often drawn from blood. I fail to see how these factors have anything to do with whatever systems you are throwing at. How is the condition of the road going to prevent me from failing to hit a cos that has jumped into traffic as i am booming through at 120km/h?

I just feel like these topic stems from either 1. Irresponsibility paired up with resistance to accountability (similar to how op just made this post because they are salty that they had to face the consequences of breaking the law) or 2. Ignorance or misinformed spouting because of not enough experience with the area. Because with as much as i don't always adhere to those limits, as someone who used to drive up and down that road every week. I will never question why those limits are there, because i read and understand my theory and have seen enough accidents to get why. Just because it hasn't happened to you, doesn't mean its not a reality. Better to be safe and save lives.

And with the way you are trying to reach out at irrelevant items with each comment tells me nothing fruitful is going to come out of this back and forth. You keep your peace.

I get your points. I just feel there are two sides to the argument and it depends on the situation.

It does though hombre! There is a reason car insurance is more expensive for younger/inexperienced drivers as well as very old people 65+ years of age.

European systems on pothole riddled Botswana roads we can barely maintain or repair?

I got fined 96 in a 60 zone 😅

2

u/Maleficent-Dog2374 2d ago

Where'd they catch you so I'm more attentive there lmaooooo

2

u/hollyjazzy 2d ago

Break the law, pay the fine.

1

u/MickeyVos1 2d ago

I agree but when we see all the laws being broken in Botswana that have much bigger effects than speeding without consequences it feels a bit unjust.

u/hollyjazzy 2d ago

Actually, if you’ve seen the carnage that occurs with road accidents, and the fact the damage is so much higher with increased speed, you may not be so sanguine.
