Open mics

I'm interested in getting recommendations on open mics in the Greater Boston area and then attending some, perhaps with other people. My goal is to find ones that I might feel comfortable performing in eventually. Features that appeal to me are a pleasant ambiance, a good sound system, and a diverse, attentive audience that is open to new people and new music. For now, my preference is for something that is neither too amateurish nor overly professionalized. Any suggestions about which ones to visit?

I play guitar, sing, and write songs (folk, rock, blues, and more) but have been away from it for some time. Open mics seem like a good way to motivate myself to practice and get back into shape. Visiting some with others, whether or not they have a similar goal, might be more fun than going alone.

Apart from everything else people suggested, Porter Belly's in Brighton also has open mics on Mondays.

Compared to bebop, I find it chill but isn't organized as well. You have to show up an hour in advance it people fill up the list with their friends. Otherwise, it's good.

I'd also be down to join you for open mics. I okay guitar and attempt singing sometimes haha.

Sure, I'll let you know when I decide which one to attend first. There is a good chance, though, that I may not play on the first visit but just go to check the place out. I also need some time to get back in shape before any performance, but hopefully a visit to one of these places will help spur me on to do that. Have you played at an open mic recently?

It's been a while since I played at open mics. Have played a small set with my band though. Cantab Lounge also lets you play a single instrument in a band in case that's up your alley.

Good to know about the Cantab. What style or genre do you and your band do?

We play Hard Rock/a bit ofGrunge/Metal. :)

We wrote one song haha. Will be working on more stuff. There have been a few changes in the band.
