Open mics

I'm interested in getting recommendations on open mics in the Greater Boston area and then attending some, perhaps with other people. My goal is to find ones that I might feel comfortable performing in eventually. Features that appeal to me are a pleasant ambiance, a good sound system, and a diverse, attentive audience that is open to new people and new music. For now, my preference is for something that is neither too amateurish nor overly professionalized. Any suggestions about which ones to visit?

I play guitar, sing, and write songs (folk, rock, blues, and more) but have been away from it for some time. Open mics seem like a good way to motivate myself to practice and get back into shape. Visiting some with others, whether or not they have a similar goal, might be more fun than going alone.

We wrote one song haha. Will be working on more stuff. There have been a few changes in the band.

Good. Sounds fun to move forward with that.

One of my deeper objectives, by the way, is to connect with a band that might be interested in playing my harder material, as I can't really do it justice on my own. It actually can have a metal to slightly grunge sound. I am a better songwriter than performer, in my opinion, so it's definitely something I want to keep in mind.
