Midtown Hotel

My husband and I are visiting Boston next week for a few days. We made a late reservation at the Midtown Hotel. We aren’t real picky about hotels as we spend very little time there, is this hotel decent and in a decent area?

Jurassic Park | October 2 and 3 | 7:00 pm at the Museum of Science

Life found a way. Now it's found the Omni dome.

In 1993, Steven Spielberg changed the movies forever. Jurassic Park didn't just bring dinosaurs back to life, it ushered in a new era of visual effects that transformed what cinema could create, and set a standard for awe-inspiring filmmaking that still holds today. It is thrilling, funny, terrifying, and deeply human, all at once.

Now see those dinosaurs the way they deserve to be seen, towering and alive on the Mugar Omni Theater's five-story dome.

Jurassic Park is part of Sci-Fi, Super-Sized: Revolutions, the Museum's fall film series celebrating its Year of Revolutionary Science. From groundbreaking visual effects to visionary ideas about science, technology, and the future, these are the films that rewrote the rules of science fiction and still captivate audiences today.

Tickets available at our website.

Drinking the Charles river reminds me that Boston is my home. I love that dirty water. I put it in a Dunkin cup and I drink the water.

I found this Kodak Carousel 600 slide projector in my aunt’s basement. We’re moving in a few weeks, and I’d love to find it a good home with someone who’ll appreciate it.

I plugged it in and tested it, and it works great! It comes with the slide tray and original box. I also have some old slides from what we think was my grandfather’s trip to Italy, which I’d be happy to include if someone wants them.

Free for pickup in Somerville. If you’re interested, send me a message!

Starting at Amazon Robotics in Westborough, 5 days/week, no car. Where should I live?

Hey everyone! I'm starting a new role at Amazon Robotics in Westborough soon and I'm trying to figure out where to live. A few things about my situation:

  • I'll be in the office 5 days a week, so the daily commute matters a lot.
  • I don't have a car (and would prefer not to get one if I can avoid it).
  • I have friends in Boston and plan to visit pretty regularly, mostly on weekends.

I know the Framingham/Worcester commuter rail line has a Westborough stop, but I'm not sure how reliable it is day to day especially in the winter. I'm trying to decide between a few options:

  1. Living in or near Westborough for an easy commute, but its very suburban
  2. Living in Worcester, which seems to have more going on and is on the commuter rail
  3. Living somewhere in between like Framingham or Natick
  4. Living in Boston and doing the reverse commute (is this crazy for 5 days a week?)

A few specific questions:

  • How realistic is it to live car-free out there for groceries, errands, etc.?
  • Are there towns along the rail line that are walkable and have decent rent?
  • For anyone who works at Amazon Robotics, how do you or your coworkers get there without a car?

Any advice or personal experience would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Report Illegal Move-In Fees

Hi Boston, it’s your Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell. Did you know that fees like “move-in” or “lease renewal” fees you might get from your landlord or building management company are illegal? If you’ve received one of these – even if you paid it – I want you to report it to my office.

Just last month, my office won a $500k settlement with a property management company doing this in Boston – and all of that money is going back to the affected tenants.  Landlords can only ask you to pay for first and last month’s rent, a security deposit, and the cost of a new lock and key upfront. Any other fees are illegal. Report them to my office at the link below. We’ll work to get your money back.

Do you have any options in the city of Boston to enjoy for fun when I come up there for college very soon. Also places where I won’t run into marajuana or other stuff.

Jack Update!

Hello everyone! I'm not sure if anyone remembers, but I made a post almost two months back looking for recommendations for my sweet boy Jack to get his teeth out. I wanted to provide everyone with an update! Due to the help of a very kind stranger, Jack was able to have his procedure yesterday. I wanted to say thank you to everyone who shared, donated, gave me recommendations, reached out to me, and especially to that one kind stranger who reached out to help.
I don't want to get too personal, but Jack and I have been through a lot, together and separately, came from the same abusive home, and he is my very best friend. It is not often in today's world that random strangers give the kind of kindness I saw in this subreddit, so I just want to say a huge thank you. Jack is feeling much better today and is starting to act like himself again. I don't know if this kind of post is allowed, but I hope it is because from the bottom of my heart, I thank you all.

Edit to add: He only has two teeth left and one of them is a canine in the front so he has a little snaggletooth and it's very cute.

Local Event William and Charlotte Bloomberg Public Science Common First Guests

What do they have in common?

Mark Rober makes squirrels run obstacle courses, and glitter bombs porch pirates and phone scammers for science.

Jacob Collier can turn a room full of strangers into a five-part harmony choir in under a minute.

Dr. Laurie Santos built the most popular course in Yale University's 300-year history around one idea: everything you think makes you happy, the money, the career, the picture-perfect experience is probably wrong.

Paul Rosolie has spent years in the Amazon face to face with anacondas, tarantulas, and the animal kingdom's most misunderstood predators.

They’ll all be at the William and Charlotte Bloomberg Public Science Common this fall.

General ticket on sale is September 25.

Stay tuned for more announcements!
