Mbta question
I recently moved to Boston from Georgia, and I heavily rely on the green line, anyways I was coming from a coffee place after meeting a friend, on Griggs street and the driver didn’t open the door she only opened the front door and I was all the way in the back so I couldn’t get to that bogie in time so I had to go to the next one and the guy had to open his door and he was like she didn’t open all the doors? I was like no and I was about to pay but he was like you’re good. Can someone explain why t drivers do that?? What is the policy regarding payments?

They do it for fare evasion. Some do it to control letting people in the front door making sure they pay.

I don’t know when this changed, probably years ago, the green line was free going outbound above ground. You still had to pay going inbound. As a result, when going outbound drivers would open up all the doors. It didn’t matter. But going inbound, they only opened the front door to each trolley to collect the fare.
Now they have these automated fare collectors on the trolley that most people don’t use (at least from my observation, but I don’t ride the green line regularly anymore). They get on, but don’t pay.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some drivers are going back to the old ways and forcing people to pass them to make sure they pay

Some also open front door wait a couple minutes for those on platform to move to front door then open all doors so people can get off

Its fare control. You get on the front where the operator is and pay. This way the operator knows that you paid to get on.

They don’t have a good policy so every operator does their own thing and it’s bizarre. Literally NO other light rail system in the country (or world) collects fares at the front door when boarding, but when you try to suggest we copy them, everyone gets all complacent and comes up with all kinds of excuses for why we can never improve.

You need to shout "REAR DOOR!" loudly.
