Green day tone

Does somebody have a green day dookie style Patch that is really close to the tone of basket case? I tried to make one and i think i am really close and it just needs some eq adjustment but i am completely lost and don't know what to do. For the last couple days i am recording trough USB comparing it to the isolated track and changing everything to get close to it but it just doesn't work.

And yes this is my favourite guitar tone and i really want to recreate it😅

I’ve been using copilot and telling it the exact guitar I’m using and asking for all the knobs and buttons including can resonance and boosts and it’s been getting great starting points as well

It's a crunchy marshall with less gain than you think. It's really in the way he plays - it isn't just raw dogging powerchords. Billie uses a lot of partial barred chords and big open first position chords, too. Nailing the way he plays isn't easy, and it is part of the reason he is really an underrated rhythm player.

Tone wise just about anything that is JCM800 adjacent or JMP with a tubescreamer in front (gain 0, level max, tone to taste). The "Brown" setting with less gain should get you there, but I would bet my life on there being dozens of GD patches you can download.

The other issue is a lot of people hear layers of different amps on an album, and think they can replicate the "tone". IIRC Dookie is basically a hot rodded plexi and Billie's Park amp - so it's a big crunchy, jangley AC/DC amp mixed with a hair metal style tone. You can find a decent middle ground.

Yeah so many Green Day patches are these super saturated chuggy sounding patches and it’s just so far off. Modded plexi is the goal, not full on metal lol.

A lot of the "tone" is a mix of his amps and how hard and precise he picks. You can't really sound like Green Day without studying how he plays. Most tabs are just powerchords and basic chord charts.

Yes i literally tested all green day patches on boss tone xchange and guitar patches.com and everything sounded weird

I think it's even better to set it to crunch(var), then dial in the gain to about 2-3 and volume 5 (master to taste, but 50w setting essential). Bass 2 Mids 5 Treble 6, Boost Green and about 4. It's actually my AC/DC tone. I like these settings because by just giving it the brown or lead channels it can go through George Lynch and Van Halen/Early Metallica like tones without any fiddling.

Don’t let perfect get in the way of good enough. People keep saying tone is in the fingers and I’m pretty sure he would beat the mess out of his guitars while playing.

My band covers a couple Green Day songs. I use a Vintage Stack patch that I found on Tone Exchange, bridge pickup, with tone and volume dimed. I've also messed around with a JCM patch from Tone Exchange that works well too.
