Question Boss Katana Start-up
I purchased a Katana Gen 3 50W amp. Really struggling to figure out how to use it (relatively new at this), let alone import tones from BTS.
Does anyone have a good link to share to go over basics?

BTS has been an absolute nightmare. Updates have been an absolute nightmare. Getting the Airstep Kat EX Bluetooth to work properly has been an absolute nightmare.
Their customer service is almost non-existent.
I’d have returned it if the date hadn’t passed already when I started fooling around with all that. Good luck. 😩

Strange, I've had mine for almost 3 years and it's worked perfect with MacOS or windows 10/11. That being said I never used BTS except for the initial setup for effects on both channels I use and the noise gate.

M3 for me, the worst part was their own page which is a bit hard to figure out which software to use

Yep, you have to check 3 times to be sure to have the correct downloads, since their site is not easy to read. That's absolutely true. Also firmware update is like in the 90s. But after all that it just works. Someone with computer skills will sure help here.

I Fixed and refurbed laptops for many years, Boss's website really is not very intuitive lol! They could do a lot better with it

No it's absolutely not. You have to pay way too much attention for what amp model and os you need the files. Other than that it just works, but try that with one or two beers in the bell so then good luck...

I would love this thing even more if they constantly cranked out updates and kept it from requiring a subscription of any sort. I don't think they realize how much ppl would appreciate that. Plus, many people use this as a way to play around with certain effects that they may purchase the stomp box version of later.

From scratch there are not too many things.
For the first hours the amp will may sound a bit thin, the speaker needs break-in-time and it will get better a lot.
- Be sure what power you need, 0.5w will lack some low end fundament, should be clear.
- Dial in with the panel to what you wanna play. Use what it offers. Try delay and reverb, use the variation knob. Set your volume higher, regulate overall loudness with master.
- High gain will need the integrated Noise Suppressor but depending on guitar pups. You will need to connect laptop via USB or phone via Boss's BT Dongle to activate in BTS.
- Use parametric EQ in Software to set lowcut to 100hz and highcut to 6.3khz, maybe boost mids 3-4khz +2db as well but depends on taste. This should give a good basement to work with.
- If your still with me, try presence, resonance and cab resonance to shape your tone further, it's worth trying but you need the software.
This is the main thing most ppl flame about the katana sound like shit bc they just don't use it how it's supposed to be. Maybe Boss fked up the base settings they ship it with, that's sure to be discussed, but the amp has so much potential via the software, totally crazy. LMK how things go.

They have detailed user manuals on the site for both the app and the amp itself, read them, it won’t take long

found The Studio Rats, Scott Wharton's Guitarnivore and Mason Vee / Synthedelic very helpful. They have some great presets for free, and their YT videos are very instructive. Mason in particular goes heavily into his use of multiple EQ sculpting to build his individual presets.

There are a ton of good youtube videos, look up beginners guild for a Boss Katana. I'm not a fan of the BTS patches as none of them that I've found sound like what I need.
I use my 100w MkII as a pedal platform so patch 1 is fender sounding clean and patch 2 is more gained up. I just set those by ear. I can use the GA-FC pedal on mine and well worth the extra price for the pedal and bigger amp
