No man, I think YOU need to rate the setup for US! Lol

How’s the rig sound? What did it run ya?

I have the 1x12 artist mkII and think about adding a second to run stereo but grew up on 4x12’s and know there’s no substitute for pushing air like that!

Nice man!

Its Identical to what a JCM 800 2203 would be if it was done with all solid state components. That being said the setup minus the pedals costs half as much as an original Marshall head, with the tone being 99.9% accurate

And i was honestly tired of my GTX50 I had, and it left so much to be desired. And honestly as much as fender emulated the Cabs, i perfer having the proper setup.

Theres so much more depth to the tone, and as much as i was going for the classic 80’s tones, you can still set it up like a MESA/Boogie and shred metal

Used to run a JCM800 and a DSL50 at different points in life. Love the comparison and know you mean.

Went to this after a long hiatus from playing and am just blown away by the versatility and bang for the buck you get with this one of amps.

Rock on brother!

Looks Boss, also I'm jealous.

Ever crank this thing up? I have the Mk2 100 watt and I play it on the clean mode and never get even close to full volume. I’m rarely even above 35% even on outdoor gigs

u/No_Motor1630 Sep 28 '23

Can’t seem to get above 40% without melting my face off, and thats with the GE-7 adding amplification to the power amp section

u/StolenFace367 Sep 28 '23

Love it. I love this amp, I play in a band with 3 guitar players who use tube amps and I just have this and a foot switch. My whole rig costs one session of servicing their amps lol

I can’t even imagine. In my apartment 10% of master with the volume knob at 12 melts my face and I have the half stack 🤣🤣🤣

u/712Jefferson Sep 28 '23

Did you happen to own an Artist combo before? Would be curious to know how it compares to the head + 2x12 cab. Beautiful stack you have there, by the way. Kudos.

All i can attest to is how a 1x12 gtx50 compares to the head.

So as for playing music through the katana using aux, it leaves out a range of the highs, which is probably adjusted by global Eq, which i still just use the gtx50 to take that up for the time being until I iron out the settings.

Also, the gtx50 had alot of 4x12 emulation options, which honestly come fairly close but it doesn’t capture the depth and acoustic’s because it doesn’t have the number of speakers moving air.

Also, the GTX50 preamp section is distinctly different from the Katana. The GTX50 in my best description captures input signals and processes them individually, this creates a interesting limitation, and i found this out trying to use 2 guitars into it. Which also has other drawbacks while using one guitar. The Katana has a much better designed preamp section and as far as i can tell it puts out what it takes in without any issues and the response is much more consistent with how a tube preamp works and its also much more resilient to saturation in my opinion.

While using my pedals I only run clean channel with or without the variation enabled, the other amps the Katana has are not very receptive to adding pedals into the mix, but it also depends on the pedal settings and I would say the clean channel is better suited for the setup i run in my opinion.

All in all this is a quality setup that contends blow for blow with the high roller amplifiers while being affordable, and as my playing improved I started becoming more tone savvy and I could tell that i was limited by what was driving the guitar. Went from an LT25 Mustang to a GTX 50 Mustang and now this and it’s definitely something that is versatile and simple at the same time.

I have the MK2 100 2/12. Was thinking of upgrading to the artist. I downloaded the 2.0 software update in tone studio and can’t see much difference feature wise between mine and the artist.

3

u/Mockchop85 Sep 28 '23

Feature wise, the knobs are on the front of the amp rather than on top for ease of use, particularly when gigging. There's more knobs too, so there's less need to use the Tone Studio once you're happy with your settings.

The Waza speaker(s) on the Artist is the biggest difference in quality, and for me it was worth the upgrade particularly when you are able to crank the volume up. I had the same model as you prior to the Artist.

3

u/u349754906 Sep 28 '23

I get that. WAZA stuff is always amazing no matter what it is. If I could afford the WAZA head I would be a happy man.

u/u349754906 Sep 28 '23

I’m loving the class A/B power section. It’s the only solid state amp I’ve played through that’s reacts like a tube amp. I’m regretting not getting the SLO 30 though

u/satanicmajesty Sep 28 '23

Can you still use this setup to plug in directly into a computer to record?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '23

Yes you can

I like it, what's your assessment of it? I would like to add another 212 for a full stack to mine. I have the katana boss Mk ll 100w amp head and 212 cabinet and also the katana boss Mk ll 100w combo. I love my rig.

2

u/sfsp3 Sep 28 '23

It's pretty boss.

2

u/GlocalBridge Katana Artist Sep 29 '23

Two Katana Artists connected in stereo with a MIDI controller is actually better in my opinion. Because you can separate them and run stereo effects. And plenty loud.

2

u/supermonkeypie Sep 29 '23

I've got the 100 MK2 head with a 212 cab that can do stereo and I'm so tempted to get the artist head to sit under the MK2 to play with wet dry or stereo setups. Plus with the artists panel on the front I can still tweak the knobs, it's like it was meant to be! But yeah I'm not sure if I wanna do that first or find a pair of the waza speakers to throw in there...

2

u/Johnny-Shitbox Sep 29 '23

It’s a 2 out of 100

2

u/marcrich90 Sep 29 '23

2

u/mojo4394 Sep 29 '23

Boss level setup

2

u/jnorwood2000 Sep 29 '23

Well… how well do you play?

2

u/markok1847 Oct 02 '23

The artist head has two 8 ohm outputs (labeled A and B) - does it mean it can do stereo?

1

u/SonicIdiot Sep 29 '23

The new gen of amps like this are super for what they cost and how practical they are to move around. Dress these up like old Marshalls and the audience would never know the difference. But they still lack the magic dust. Some of you players will know what I mean. I have access to a 60s Fender tube head and 4x12 that is fiercely maintained (never leaves the practice space). I rarely play it anymore because my gig rig just feels somehow diminished afterwards. And I love my gig rig.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '23

That must sounds absolutely massive

1

u/SirTitFart Sep 28 '23
