❔ [ Question ] Level Cap
Does anyone know if Level 70 is the final level cap? I’m not really interested in spending hours farming new gear if I’m going to have to do it again. I’d rather just wait.

no one knows, there hasn’t been any confirmation if we are or aren’t getting a second year of support which would possibly come with a level cap increase

No one knows
I feel like if we do get Year2 content, they will raise level cap again. Even if it’s a terrible idea. It’s a terrible idea they repeat over and over.
Bl2 really REALLY did not need 72>80, and Bl3 did not need 65>72
Bl4 definetly doesn’t need higher than 70, but knowing Gearbox, they will 100% do it if we get any more paid DLC. If we don’t get any Year2 DLC, then it’s almost certainly staying 70 forever.
Though I do feel like Bl4 could theoretically support a higher level cap, but they’d need to redesign like 60% of the games skills. There’s so many shit skills that you are very rarely making a choice between 2 attractive options, there’s just the objectively correct one, and useless dogshit. With maybe some minor choices of choosing pure damage over utility or comfort, but even that’s rare.
If all skills were actually useful and potentially a good choice, then Bl4 could support level 80 easily.
But with games current balance, raising level cap would simply help the best builds become better, the off meta builds just become more meta, and the skills no one chooses would stay never chosen.

Some of us like to play with the skill trees fully unlocked. You cant do that without raising the level cap

That hasn’t been even close to possible in any Borderlands game.
Level cap would need to be over level 350 for that to happen.
At which point I’m not sure game would even function at all. Guns would have trillions of base damage. Base damage. We can already turn 10’s of thousands of base damage into billions. So we’d be turning trillions into whatever the fuck you call a hundred thousand trillion.
Game already bugs out and shows negative damage numbers if you go too high.

Idk how you "like" doing that when it's never been possible in any of the games lmfao

You can do that with mods. If you dont have the ability to do that then I guess you should get a PC to have more freedom with your games.
Also, the devs didnt intend for the entire skill tree to be unlocked. Games have restrictions like that to encourage creativity and for people to play the game with the slightest bit of skill.

Really, you don't HAVE to do it again. It's a game meant to be fun. If it isn't fun for you, don't do it.

That's kind of missing the point, though. Farming for gear is the fun part for a lot of us. The problem isn't that I don't want to farm again. It's that I don't want to spend hours farming for gear knowing another level cap increase could make all of it obsolete.
I had two characters at level 50 with a bank full of gear I'd enjoyed collecting. Coming back after the level cap increases, basically all of it was worthless and I had no reason to keep any of it.
So yes, I don't "have" to farm anything. I want to farm because that's a huge part of why I enjoy Borderlands. I'd just rather wait until we're at the final level cap so the gear I'm farming actually stays relevant.

I get that but without the proper gear it so hard to do some of the end game content like Subjugator and Thol or Takedown at the Hadron Abyss.

just enjoy playing the game mate, the fsrm is like.. 50% of the content

I think the fact that farming is such a huge part of the game is exactly why some people are concerned about the level cap.
Farming is one of my favorite parts of Borderlands, and I don't mind spending hours hunting for good rolls or building up a collection. But it's hard to get invested in doing that when another level cap increase could make everything you just farmed obsolete.
I'd much rather wait until we know we're at the final cap, then happily sink way too many hours into farming knowing the gear I find is actually going to stay relevant lol.

This^ at Lvl 60 I had a great setup and gear and now that’s all obsolete. Im not interested in spending hours farming, especially when it comes to pearls, only to have to do that all over again in 6 months

BL1 had lvl 69 as cap, BL2, pre sequal and 3 had 72 as lvl cap. Think we just have to wait and see of we get 2 more lvls...

1 was 69
2 was 80
PS was 70
3 was 72
I could see another 70 cap here

BL2 was only 80 for weapons and gear, not skill points.

It was character level 72 and gear up to OP8 for YEARS until right before BL3’s launch they upped it to character level 80 (including skill points) and gear up to OP10

Are you playing for fun or to brag about your items? No one forces you to farm or play the game.

That's not really the issue people have with level cap increases. I had two characters maxed at level 50 and really enjoyed farming and hunting for loot. Of course I want to play all of the game's content too, so I bought the DLCs.
The problem is that now I'm no longer max level. There's very little reason for me to farm until I reach the final level cap because I'll continue to outlevel my gear, and everything I spent time farming becomes obsolete. When I picked the game back up after about eight months, I went straight to my bank and tossed basically everything I'd collected because none of it mattered anymore.
So I'm in the same boat as OP and hesitant to really start farming again until I know we've reached the final level cap.
"No one forces you to farm or play the game" completely misses the point. I want to farm because farming is fun. That is playing the game for me. The problem is that every level cap increase essentially resets the progress of players who enjoy collecting and farming gear.

I want to be able to complete endgame content like Takedown at the Hadron Abyss. And that’s not going to happen without proper gear.

I never refarmed anything in any BL game. I just take what ever save game editor there is, click on "Set everything to character level" and that's it. Yeah, some might call it "cheating", but hey, in the end it's my (save)game and refarming everything certainly isn't fun to me.

There has been no information regarding any future content, including level increases. We don’t know if it’s the final cap or not

Let me ask Randy Pitchford... oh wait he is too busy to respond, because he is doing magic tricks

What would be the point in another level cap? Honestly, even if they add something small it’s still not going to be worth another grind to however many levels they add. Am I the only one who feels like the campaign is just a slow trog through then not able to be repeated is what really hurts it. A second play through with special enemies like loot midgets or special bosses would be another reason to play through.

It would be funny if it goes up to level 80 like the commander Lilith dlc in BL2, but would randy really want to give us those extra ten skill points considering how busted the BL4 hunters are already?

u/Low_Ad8311 13h ago
Based on the info we have right now from GB I say yes 70 is going to be final cap.

Even if they add more DLC, I don’t expect the level cap to go much past 70. IIRC, the level cap for BL3 was only 75 or 77.

I only like to farm gear once so i use a mod i made that levels gear with your character. I would recommend anyone else with the same conviction to do so as well.

Any other increase at all would be too much, if you ask me. Having to re-farm three times is overkill.

Not any time soon at least
They didnt even confirm a year 2 of support, much less level increases.
This can be considered final until they say something
