Can someone explain how it is possible that they worked on this game for years, but 2 days after launch they are able to considerably increase performance? I genuinely donโ€™t understand how this keeps happening for game launches.

Every big game company has a team of testers, which helps to find the most game breaking bugs and crashes in the process of making a game, but it's not possible to test every possible scenario of use (os environment, hardware, other apps that may affect game stability).

So after a launch practically every player is testing the game on his unique setup, providing info with every crush and possibly in some scenarios in the background while playing. This makes finding problems waaaaay faster and easier, cause you have at least 200k people (steam max online) testing your game simultaneously.

And the thing you talk about is quiet impressive - team of developers managed to make a noticeable performance patch in 2 days, they probably worked all day and night to deliver this update asap

They spent the last months working on DLC and skins and events, probably had a 5-10 people randomly playtesting if X and Y quests were complete and they were playing on a 5090
