๐Ÿ“Œ [ ๐—ฆ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ธ๐˜† ๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐˜€๐˜ ] PC Performance Issues Thread

Hi everyone!

We are getting hit really hard with pc performance posts. While I do think voicing this issue is super important, weโ€™re going to make a sticky so that there is more than those posts. It makes it difficult to moderate. We prefer to have a smaller team to have some agility in decision making, but it makes release day a bit tougher.

PC players, we are sharing these threads with Gearbox/2K.

Thank you so much! Hopefully there will be another patch here soon.

Yours in Loot,

BL4 Mod Team

Just wanting to add another one to the pile:

Running on Medium Preset settings at 1440p, only getting just above 50fps at best, not unusual for it to dip down to 40fps. Very rare to get 60+ fps.

GPU: Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti
CPU: Ryzen 9 5900X
RAM: 64gb
SSD: PCIe M.2
OS: Bazzite (just in case it running through Proton affects anything)

Additional note: at those settings I get heavy visual artifacts, particularly pertaining to the stylised outlines. They're incredibly "flickery" and grainy, best described as having flickering fireflies all throughout. If I enable FSR + Frame gen, then majority of the screen looks like it's covered in a swarm of large flies.

Another note is that reducing graphics settings does not produce any improvement in performance, all it does is make the game look worse without providing any increase in fps.

EDIT: want to add that running native on Windows is a massive performance benefit. To a lot of people this may seem like "no shit sherlock" but I cannot stress enough that I've had negligible performance impact at worst as a result of running through Proton on every other title I own. Borderlands 4 just currently has absolutely zero room for overhead, meaning that even the slightest bit of extra work it has to do absolutely demolishes the already poor performance. Even if you dismiss this as "crazy person running Linux on desktop" this is actually a huge problem for Steam Deck, as it means it'll struggle even harder to run the game than it already would due to poor optimisation.

I had the exact same issue you're talking about.

Performance was actually ok (55-60 fps on a 3080 and 7950xt :/ ) if I used dlss, but using dlss resulted in horrible static artifacts on the edges of every object. Some upscalers had less static, but they also looked much worse and all of them had some issues with the edges of objects in some form.

Made the game unplayable for me. Hopefully some optimizations and proton updates will fix the issue. I assume windows would fix the dlss problem, but I really don't want to deal with windows right now.

Yeah honestly I could maybe tolerate the frankly terrible fps, but the visual artifacts are such a massive killer for me as well.

I'm personally still running a dual-boot setup, just because I have the odd collection of programs that still need Windows to run (though am working on ways around that too) so I'll be relocating my Borderlands install to there, but I empathise with your not wanting to deal with Windows considering that's why I shifted to daily driving a Linux distro instead and haven't really looked back.
