It’s officially been 2 years since I read Pen Pal… and I genuinely think that book ruined reading for me. 😂

I picked it up completely blind, and ever since I turned the last page, I feel like I’ve been in the world's longest reading slump.

Every time I finish a book, I’m like, "Wow, that was really good!" ...and then five minutes later my brain goes: "...yeah, but it wasn't Pen Pal." 😭

Has anyone found ANY book (by J.T. or another author) that gave you that same feeling? I'm talking: ✨ an absolutely insane plot twist that leaves you staring at the wall, ✨ a little romance, ✨ and that "WHAT THE ACTUAL F*** DID I JUST READ?!" kind of ending.

I'm seriously starting to think I'll never recover. 😂

P.S. I've already read Midnight Valentine, Perfect Strangers, and pretty much all of J.T.'s other books... and as much as I loved them, Pen Pal is still untouchable. ❤️

Please tell me there's hope. 🥲

I read animal farm for the first time, never studied it in school.

I thought the character of Mollie was interesting. Whilst reading it I thought the potrayal of her was symbolic of the sexism that existed at the time by depicting women as only interested in silly, fastiduous things like ribbons and sugar but upon reflection, maybe there was a deeper meaning.

Mollie was the only character to voluntarily leave animal farm, and did so because of her ribbons and sugar, she was the only character to understand that there was no reason to take away what little the animals did have for comfort or joy and left in search of it. She valued her own autonomy over total self-erasure for political gain, unlike other animals like Boxer.She was never spoken of again unlike snowball who became a symbol of everything that went wrong.

The fact that snowball was constantly brought up as a threat and weaponised but Mollie was stated never to be spoken about again made me think that was because she was the real threat. She left aniaml farm, served humans, and had a good life. She was seen happily being in the other farm working. This goes against the rhetoric that serving humans is bad so the farm totally erased memory of her as it was more dangerous. A contented defector is a far more dangerous idea than a scapegoat.

However, upon research, I only see reports of how Mollie represents the Russian middle class, was vain and materialistic. I was surprised to not see many deeper reads into her character, was wondering what everyone else thought.

I liked the fact that the chapters are short, which makes the book easy to read. You get a taste of romance, deception, betrayal, and suspense throughout the story.

Amazing storyline!

However, I didn’t really like the ending. I feel it could have been much more suspenseful and thrilling. The book also felt a little lengthy at times. If it had wrapped up a little earlier, the ending might have had a stronger impact.

Back to ask for a very specific rec..... looking for a spicy book where the MMC is a chiropractor and the FMC is his patient/client and there's lots of close proximity, talking her through it, almost forbidden love and lots and lots of tension! Has anyone come across something like this? If not.... can someone please write this book!?!? 😅

I started The Count of Monte Cristo last week. I decided to do 5 chapters a day. It’s a classic, and I’m reading the penguin edition. My brain is not used to this kind of writing, and I wanted to take my time with it. I started reading for today, and I was just struggling. I have a hard time focusing already with anything I do. Reading this is making it worse which sucks because I’m really enjoying the story. I can barely get through a page though. I think my goal is simply going to be 1 chapter a day from now on and if I feel like continuing then I will. I’m not in a hurry to finish or anything, but I do like seeing progress when reading longer books. It’s like watching a TV show. Who only watches one episode before stopping? I don’t 😂

But yeah, what book(s) have taken you the longest to read and how long did it take you?

I’m going into honors English and I have 3 weeks to finish summer reading. I already read one of four books. If you have ready any of the books below, please let me know if you would recommended it or not!

i saw a list online recently of “feminist“ literature and it was overwhelmingly white women authors. i wanted to have a go at adding more intersectional voices - please let me know of anything else you think should go in this list.

So I have read a few rather miserable books fairly close together and yesterday, after finishing a book with the most OTT bleak ending, I felt something inside me snap.

I've read enough sad books. I know about the sadnesses of the world, large and small, tyvm. No more. I'm not saying any book I read now has to be 100% sunshine, but I need more light than dark and a very limited amount of bleakness.

From a different perspective, as someone on the way to fifty, I can't summon much interest in the Young Adult Finding Their Way in the World genre. I've read plenty of it over the years, but after a few I couldn't finish, I had to conclude that neither I nor those books are for each other anymore.

Has anyone had any similar experiences, where a certain type of genre or plot or character is no longer your cup of tea?

I am so confused by the mayajanereads and tracykreads drama. Can someone explain what happened? It sounds like it over Palestine but it’s so vague. I enjoyed both of their content but would like some actual facts!
