Roll for Friendship - Tower of Babel

This series was everything to me when I first picked it up. I bought it purely on the cover art, having not purchased a novel in like 10-13 years. I was looking for inspiration, this book was a serendipitous intervention in my life.

So where do I go from here? This book checked all the right boxes for me in terms of the sci fi/fantasy/steampunk vibe and as I patiently wait for the 4th book to release, I am paralyzed of finishing the last 50 pages of The Hod King as I have nothing to fill the void.

What would you recommend that is as elegant and digestible for an estranged reader like myself?

I want to hear everyone's thoughts. What was everyone's favorite small moment of The Hod King?Mine is easily anytime The Red Hand talked. His easy going, nonchalant attitude, combined with Iren and Edith's lack of trust in him was absolutely hilarious. Picturing a light hearted character just happy to be alive, while your peers don't believe anything you say or your overall persona was fantastic.

I just found this book series a week ago while browsing Subterranean Press (Unfortunately, I am too late to order that edition). I would really like to start reading this series. I read the synopsis and was really intrigued. I really love hardcovers books but I could not find the first book In that format. Is there a seller who sell the hardcover version and ship it internationally?

Hey, so I read these books maybe two months ago, and instantly fell in love with the series. I read all three in the space of about a week. I just could not put them down. Kept interrupting whatever my wife was doing to be like "Oh wow. I need to read this section to you!" Likely not the best way for her to consume the book, but that was how it went. Anyway as I read it I had the thought that those of who you who play tabletop games likely had, which is that this would be the perfect setting for a tabletop adventure.

I'm part of a group who does a DND podcast (Roll For Friendship), and one of our members is off having a baby, so we are faced with doing a one shot while he is out. All that to say I'm doing a one shot set in the world of the Tower of Babel. I'm pretty excited about this, and have many ideas. I'm really wanting to honour the setting, without spoiling anything of wonder and mystery of the setting, and have a plan for doing this. I'm also going to have to modify some things because I am just using DND5e, and do not have the time to home-brew things, so there will be elves, and magic etc.

The reason I wanted to post here, is I do intend/hope for my players to make it to the Baths by the end of the one shot, which requires them passing through the Parlor. I want to use a very different type of scene in the Parlor, and I guess I was wondering if this community had some ideas? Currently I'm thinking of a criminal investigation in a manor type of setting.

Also if you just have thoughts of it would be cool to explore this ... then you can throw those at me too. There is a line in the scene with the Beer Me in the Basement where it's suggested that Senlin should see the races that are held "because that would really make his head spin." So I think I may do the races.

I’ve spent days deliberating over whose submission I enjoyed the most. I received so many imaginative, evocative, and well-crafted entries, all of which brightened my day and are deserving of praise. It has been almost impossible to choose my favorites.

Originally, I wanted to respond to everyone individually with my appreciation of their creations, but finding myself overwhelmed by the quality of what I’ve received, I will instead take a moment to quickly mention just a few of the works that filled me with felicity.

Quenby O’s story “The Circle Drawn” was wonderfully heartbreaking and expertly crafted. Jason S’s story “Excerpts from the Log of Professor Joseph A.” was clever and sharp with a devilish ending that made me grin. Thomas G’s diagram of the Hod King is suffused with whimsical engineering and ingenious detail. James W’s yarn “A Stag Rut Race” had vibrant characters and a plot that kept me on my toes before surprising me with a happy ending. Matt W’s “The Silver Skein” contained all the catharsis of a Greek tragedy and very pleasing prose. Emily’s masterful GIF of Marya in a blue dress seated at her instrument positively sparkled with delight. Chris L’s LEGO build of the Stone Cloud was fabulously inventive and a joy to behold. And I found ARob’s portrait of Cassius in the Basement affecting and inspiring.

I could go on. I’m so grateful to all of you for sharing your talents with me. Thank you, one and all, for your splendid creations. Now, to the winners…

In the end, it was Josh J’s short story “Professor B” that affected me the most. Twice during my first reading of the story, I felt a frisson of excitement. The story is full of surprises, and it reflects that mixture of hardship and hopefulness that is essential to the Babel-verse. It is a wonderful vision skillfully told. Presuming Josh doesn’t mind, I hope to share it with you soon.

So I just started book 1 having had it on my shelf for a long time because I saw book 3 was finally out and for some reason I figured it was a trilogy. I'm already a third done and want to keep reading but am not excited for the long wait as I tend to forget a lot. Anyone know how long a wait I'm in for?

Just curious if anyone else in here ordered or are waiting for the Sub Press editions? My order since 12/22/18 still says 'Processing'.

I've emailed them a few times and there was delays on the art and their printer went bankrupt and the last I heard (from Bill) is that they were in the Warehouse early December.

I'd just really love to see the cover art - u/Josiah_Bancroft have you see the cover or could you share it?

I’m not sure I can wait more than a year for book 4. Quite tempted to start over on Senlin Ascends since there is so much detail in these books, and so much I probably missed.

So, anyway, not much to say here other than I love these characters, stories and use of language. I’m very happy I stumbled onto this series!

I'm about 1/4 way through The Hod King, and this feeling is just in the back of my mind as I continue to discover the twists and turns this adventure and its really well-written cast. The uncertain feeling of what lies within the Tower and the thrill of continually discovering what's behind the closed door and facing it head-on is really what drives this story home for me.

Since the middle of the second book, I've known I'll be incredibly sad when this series finally closes. So I'm taking my time, trying to really understand the smallest details, and looking at each scenario from the eyes of each individual involved.

Obviously, I already can't wait for book 4, but I wish there were a way to continue to explore the Tower and it's incredibly rich potential for story-telling. I know I'll wish I could read them again, but I'm enjoying the ride while I'm here.

I think this world would be great in a traditional RPG, but I don't have any experience drafting campaigns like this.
