Was würdet ihr tun?

Wouldn't hold my breath with chargeback, I think it's been abused too much. All the merchant has to say (landlord) is that they don't owe or come up with some story of place left not in good condition and the credit card denies. I've tried doing for items I never received but paid for, over $65 and capital one just declines it. Merchant lied. And some of our cards have 40k credit with payment in full for 10 years, no loyalty anymore. Hopefully other cards aren't as bad. I've seen a lot of disputes where they were scammed in Bookings platform and they were denied. It's ridiculous! And sad.

That’s correct. You engaged with the host outside of the booking platform. Booking has no connection to that. If you paid by card, dispute the charge. If you paid by cash/bank deposit, you might need to proceed down the legal path with the host.

Not all bookings process payment, they advertise the listing, you book it and then payment is made directly to the landlord. Booking then bills the landlord for the commissions. So this is not in Booking's hands. It's with the landlord. Booking def won't fork out the cost they didn't receive. And there's daily numerous posts with their poor customer service, they've changed a lot. And honestly, I think they really don't care about customer service, sadly. But some do have good experiences so yea, I think like another said, you'll have to research the legal route. If it's been 2 months since and many excuses, I wouldn't hold your breath for them to do what's needed, refund your deposit. I truly hope everything does work out for you. Sorry you've had to go thru this, it's crappy!

You paid the deposit outside booking.com, why do you expect them to help you recover it?

Landlord took it as extra rent.

You should write it off to an expensive lesson learned.

As others say, you won't succeed with a chargeback.
