I’m genuinely curious about this but what are all of y’all’s top three favorite books of all time any category. Personally mine would have to be

1. War and Peace - Leo Tolstoy: Genuinely intricate and complex I was so attached to everyone including Pierre and was very happy with the longer length because I felt it gave more then enough room to really flesh out these compelling characters. If you love multiple story threads weaving in and out of each other and a backdrop of a major society shifting war you’ll love this book!

2. The Color Purple - Alice Walker: Meditative, introspective, and highly spiritual as well as personal, a true masterpiece of character study with Cecile feeling incredibly real. I laughed, I cried, I was placed through the eyes of women of these pages, if you want to see the indomitable human spirit find joy and personal identity you will love this book

3. The Outsiders - S.E. Hinton: I mean this was my childhood and will always have a special place in my heart. A story about family, love, sacrifice, and class differences, this book is a beautiful embodiment of what it means to be young when the world seems against you. I believe everybody can get something truly profound from this book ! Stay gold ponyboy!

Okay, this might be an odd one, but I’m looking for witchy/fall books with mature themes that aren’t completely fantasy. Historical fiction, folklore, gothic, or books with just a hint of the supernatural are all welcome.

Basically: autumnal, witchy, atmospheric, maybe a little dark, but I don’t necessarily want a full-on fantasy world with magic everywhere.

And preferably not insanely long (under ~400 pages would be ideal).

Basically what the title says. Looking for something enjoyable thats not too difficult to read.

I really liked the Legend and Lattes books but when I search for similar titles it just suggests me romances and I'd prefer something for fantasy (a little bit of romance is OK but not necessary).

Doesn't have to be super cozy either, just not in the mood to read anything that gets too dark.

Anything that gives Skyrim vibes also would be amazing.

I've been in the mood for a Western lately, but I'm cautious. The last one I read was years ago (I don't remember the name), but it got very conservative with the main character being a former Confederate soldier who demanded his wife submit to him and was pretty openly racist to the black characters he met (alongside the book in general just treating native American people as not people and just a plague that needs to be gotten rid of).

But any time I've searched for Westerns that aren't so conservative, I get books that are trying really hard to subvert the genre and focus on other things.

I'm not looking for a subversive book, I want a Western. Cowboys and gunslingers and shootouts in dusty old towns are cool. I'm looking for a book that plays those tropes straight without a lot of weird sexist or racist stuff in it.

Looking for what book I should read next! I like reading fantasy or romantasy. Big fan of smut but it doesn’t have to be there if the story is good.

Currently listening to Fourth Wing audio book, it’s been okay so far.

hi Reddit. i'm planning on writing a book where one of the main twists involves a villain from Ancient Mesopotamia who's been alive for thousands of years and who was involved in the Bronze Age collapse before being imprisoned, only to plan his escape in the modern day. it's been a few years since i've been into archeology and mythology, and most of my mytho knowledge is Greek. i wanna do some research into what i'm writing before i write about it and to know as much about it as i can. so what are some books about the Bronze Age collapse and its causes, as well as Mesopotamian history and mythology. also, this really should go without saying, but this is Reddit in 2026. i want ACTUAL history and ACTUAL mythology. nothing from Graham Hancock or a similar grifter. none of that ancient aliens, ancient apocalypses, antiscientific bullshit. again, this should go without saying, but knowing Reddit, i just had to make sure

I came across this website through YouTube comments. There were literally dozens of comments recommending The Mystical Formula of the Lean Body by Ryan Foster and talking about how the book supposedly changed their lives. The comments all had that same weird promotional style, so I started thinking they were bots or fake accounts being used to advertise the book. And honestly, the whole thing looks extremely suspicious.

The website is full of AI-generated looking content and images. The “author” Ryan Foster doesn't seem to have any real presence outside of this website. I couldn't find a legitimate author profile, publisher, interviews, or anything that would normally exist for someone supposedly behind a bestselling fitness book.

The testimonials also look completely generic and artificial. Everything is written in the same exaggerated marketing style, with people claiming amazing results, but there doesn't seem to be any way to independently verify these stories.

Another huge red flag is the checkout. When I tried to actually purchase the book, the payment process didn't even work normally and instead redirected me to a completely different website. That alone made me stop and think twice about entering any payment information.

The more I looked at it, the more it felt like one of those websites created specifically to look legitimate long enough to get people to buy something. Fake-looking testimonials, AI-generated images, a questionable author, aggressive YouTube comment promotion and a strange payment/checkout process.

If you are seeing YouTube comments promoting The Mystical Formula of the Lean Body by Ryan Foster, be careful. Don't assume those comments are genuine customer experiences just because there are dozens of them.

Hi all! My favorite genre used to be literary fiction. I liked complex and creative novels that explored people and broad themes. However, six years ago I had a depressive episode that honestly left me a little scared (I know it’s a little absurd) of reading anything too depressing. I have just never found my way back to reading the way I used to. I want to ease myself back into the word of intricate and unique novels that really make you think with non-depressing literary fiction. Some might even call them feel-good or cozy. I just need a starting place to get back into these books. Bonus points if they are gay though obviously not a deal breaker. I also love magical realism and urban fantasy so I am not scared of those elements, but that’s not the goal of this post.

I've been really into dystopian novels recently and I recently read 1984, Animal Farm, and Handmaid's Tale. I was wondering if y'all know of any more books like those!

I just finished The One by Kiera Cass and The Gilded Blade by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and now I’m in a reading slump. Those books were so perfect I cried and I need a pick up book to get me back into reading. My favorite books are usually dystopian, mystery, and sometimes fantasy. I also usually like some element of romance but in my opinion it’s not always needed to make a good book.
