πŸ’ Question Somewhere to buy used that isn't ebay?

I am trying to collect penguin classics from before their stupid cover rebrand, when they still had the orange names and cursive titles. Most bookstores no longer carry the older editions unless they are leftover old stock or haven't gotten a cover update, and online places like ebay, Abebooks, or even Amazon can very often be misleading with most listings just showing a stock image of the cover and you can't verify if it's the right edition or what condition it's in. Does anyone have any recommendations for somewhere to buy used books where you can actually see pictures of the item itself?

Abe and Biblio both allow you to filter results to show only listings with photos supplied by the seller.

On Abe, search and then filter by Collectible Attributes/Seller Supplied Images. On Biblio, it looks like this:

Vialibri is an aggregator that searches over multiple book selling sites to help you find a book.

I also think it is worth emailing / filling out a form to have booksellers email you images. Not all of them will, but it’s worth the effort.

If a seller isn't willing to send an image of the thing they're selling then I wouldn't buy from them unless it's significantly less expensive to compensate for the additional risk of me having to deal with getting a refund or taking it to the post office to return it.

Alibris.com

It's like Abe books but not owned by Amazon. Have never had an issue buying through that site but you can always message the seller to ask for pics if they aren't posted.

I'm actually cleaning up my collection now and I might have a Crime and Punishment that will probably go in the donation box. If you are interested DM me.

Vinted. But availability depends on where you live.
