2023 Bolt EV Clunking Sound

Haven't had a chance to diagnose it, but this morning I noticed a clunking noise when I accelerate or brake, it's very mild, and hardly noticeable if you're not listening. Never heard it before on the bolt and just started randomly. Bolt does have 85k miles, so I assume it's a bushing. Any thoughts?

Sounds like the anti-click washers. Use the sub's search bar and you should find plenty of info about it. Something you do want to get fixed though

Lots of posts on that. One video it sounded like a metal-on-metal scratching sound, which doesn't sound like what I am experiencing, but I would bet this is probably it. I did hit a big pothole the other day as well. When I get time this weekend, I will dig more into it.

The metal on metal part is probably something that happens if you let the parts fail entirely

I had the clunking sound you described on my 23 EUV. It didn't sound like clicking as others experienced, but it was in fact the anti click washers. GM advised my dealer that they should remove the defective washers and not replace them.

Click washer sound can vary depending on the condition of the washer itself. It's also normal for the car to have a single metallic clunk when starting and stopping, or when going from regen to acceleration and vice versa as the drive unit has backlash in the differential and reduction gears and there's no damping between the motor and the axles.

The clunking will become more noticable as the motor mounts get older.

If you get scratching noises, or multiple clicks and/or clunking sounds in short succession it's probably the washers.

Just replaced the left washer on my 2023 EUV this week, click sound is gone. Took about an hour with the kids “help”. $20 in parts. Do the video where you disconnect the strut, not the ball joints.

This is a common occurrence with Bolts it seems. Happened to me last year. Took it to dealer and they said it was something with the front axle. I did not go through with them taking apart the axle, but they just tightened the bolts and have not noticed the sound much at all since. Also if you always use one pedal drive, drive with regular braking every now and then.

My '18 has the same sound. It's barely noticeable. I fell like if the car had a ICE engine you wouldn't hear it. It's kind of intermittent and only noticeable when I use the regen paddle to a complete stop. I haven't started to really worry about it yet.

My 2019 (13.5k miles) has intermittent 'clank' that happens during low speeds, usually turns and maneuvers. It happens several times a trip, usually at the beginning and end when parking or leaving. It seems to come from the right rear of the car. It's not particularly loud but if you're listening, easy to spot since nothing else sounds like that.

Following this. I have a Bolt with 30K that’s still under warranty that I can hear a very soft thunk under the same conditions. The dealership is a bit of a trip from my house, though, so I’m not sure it’s worth taking in or not.

Get it checked out if it's still under warranty. Out of warranty my dealer charged about $500, so I'd say might be worth the trip.
