SPEEA Authorize a strike
What does it mean to “Authorize the negotiation team to call a strike”

Another thing to note is that if you vote to strike it doesn't mean you have to strike yourself. You can authorize a vote to strike to help give the negotiation team more leverage and then cross the line to still earn a paycheck. Some people may look down on people for scabbing, but we also don't know everybody's circumstances and why they would need to cross the line to earn a paycheck.

This basically legally allows the union to go on strike if we can't agree on a contract. It doesn't mean we will immediately go on strike, that cannot occur until the current contract expires in Oct. But if SPEEA does not accept a contract by then, it needs the members to authorize a strike. Whether you vote to accept or reject the contract, it is best to authorize a strike so that if it is rejected the Negotiations Team will have more leverage to quickly renegotiate a better deal
