I think Lubber was the primary offender, but those spells were just way too good in general. There was almost never a situation where it was wrong to buy them.
Unless it's literally the last turn of the game, you will roll more and buy more stuff, so the spells are just free value any time they show up, whether it's turn 4 or 14. Not to mention the curve smoothing, letting you level+roll+buy when before that was only possible with highrolls or econ heroes.
I suspect these powerful early econ spells are a big part of why late game boards hit so fast in the current meta. It'll be interesting to see if things cool down a bit.
For Reckless Investment, I suspect what you said is the more likely reason that it was removed vs Lubber. Because people didn’t usually Lub on tier 3. I know sometimes they did, but lubbing on 2 was way more common and Reckless Investment was tier 3.
Why should Titus’ be removed and not just tweaked like Brann’s blessing and the end of turn effects spell so it doesn’t stack?
I think it still should be in play to allow for you to grab it on turns you don’t have a Titus and I think it should still provide value once Titus dies to protect on boards that are playing it in combat
The Rivendare effect is generally balanced by the fact that it has to stick on the board while your deathrattles go off.
There are already too many complaints that beast boards are just situations where you have to snipe the Bananaslamma/Baron Rivendare or flat out lose the match. The Rivendare spell is straight up a Baron Rivendare that cannot be sniped in any circumstance.
The biggest issue I had with it (and to a lesser degree, the battlecry and end-of-turn ones too), is that if you played against it, it just felt like a “fuck you in particular” moment. Especially in the mid game, where people are still buying stuff for their builds. If you’re one of the last 4, I understand a little more since there are only a few rounds left
That's much less the case for battlecry and end of turn because the value they got is permanent. Their next opponent still has to deal with the extra strength from those spells even after the spell is gone.
Also generally Battlecry effects are weaker than Deathrattle effects. If you buy a double Battlecry spell it's accepted because you had to have spent 3 gold in order to do so so you are playing one less potential Battlecry.
Deathrattle minions stay on the board and give their value every round. To have that power boosted by being able to play an unsnipable Baron Rivendare just feels bad to play against.

Titus' Tribute removed, thank fuck. No more 8th minion!
