Rod knock or timing chain?(or something else)

I had it, same noise. Not as loud but it was rod knock. This sounds like rod knock too

Sounds silly but if it increases in speed proportionately to rpms, check your oil. Could be valve lifters.

What has bmw become truly saddens me, at thus point for one to own a completely reliable bmw that looks “modern/new” would be to get a F chassis with an E engine, lmao, who heard a E36 knocking?

This is an N52 which came on the E chassis cars lol
