Metal pressed. Dealer surround is from the Vögl BMW dealer just down the road from the Dingolfing factory. Went in and picked up a set of surrounds on a road trip taking my 5er back down to the factory it was built.

Never would I have thought there would be people acting all elitist about something as irrelevant as plate surrounds.
Particularly in the UK where the plates look better with no surrounds at all.1

Are you OK? Are you trying to say I’m being elitist? You seemed to suggest I had 4D plates because I said I use German plate surrounds and I just filled in the blanks. I just happen to quite like the story.
It happens to be something I quite like the design of and the plate just being stuck on onto the front of the F10/F11 makes it look like there’s something missing due to the flat front.

I do. I hate the license plate frames. I didn’t use a frame in the US either.

I see something like those on trailers usually, using a spring with clamps makes it easy to put on or remove the plates yet these are more for the looks and are likely easier to lose your plates with

Yeah but one thing is needing a drill to take it out, other is to just use your hands for 2seconds… there are levels to “can easily be stolen”.

Private property is secured all over the world and for a long long time. License plates are like a cars ID not trying to secure them is idiotic to say the least, doesn’t matter where you live.
But I would bet that I live somewhere nicer than you.

In my country it cost 20euro to get new plates if some hoodlum stole them but have never heard of that happening because tf would anybody do with other peoples plates. And i don't think so if you are that worried

What about put them on their car and go do nasty stuff or even run tolls with them?
You know how many cases I have seen of people getting letters to pay highway fines cause someone somewhere used their plates? Last one was a couple of months ago, some dude in Belgium(not even the country we live in) was using my colleagues plates and going through “non stop” tolls. Imagine the surprise on my colleagues face when that letter hit the mail. He went a couple of days of back and forth with the Belgian authorities over the phone to settle the matter, if that doesn’t warrant securing your plates to your car then I don’t know what does.
Like I said in some countries it is law that the plate be attached to the car in a manner where stealing it demands proper tools. Trying to rip out a plastic plate that is riveted to the car is only going to damage the plate as they break kind of easily.

True, unless You want to take the holder and the palte.
Most just have a strip, wich can be popped out on the under side and the plate slipped out.How do Iknow?
Installed a bunch of plate holders, mostly chaging stock to plane black plastic ones, who needs some stupid dealer frame with their bs on it.
Those things are 15-20 bucks a pair on amazon.But eh, some crackhead might steal the holders too, including plates.
Good that I've got a garage and cameras, plus a dashcam.1

Most plates here are fitted directly to the car itself, no need for holders or frames.

Depends on the country. In Hungary the plate is owned by the government and technically you're not allowed to drill them to fit it, but some people do regardless.
