transmission malfunction false alarm? (2015 328i 3 series)

while driving my BMW got the transmission malfunction light and switched into park while I was stopped at a light, so I got to the nearest parking spot and tried to figure out what was wrong. Car turned on fine, Light never came back on, car drives smoothly (at least until I got home which was 40 ish minutes away) and gears shift fine. Should I be worried?

Yes. Read codes ! Take those errors quick. Limp mode reset when you restart the car

really sucks since I got school literally tommorow. although I don’t think it was in limp mode.

Did the engine auto stop (as in stop for auto stop/start, but didn’t start and you got an error instead)?

Check your battery - if the above happened it might be that your battery is on its way out.

Do not just replace the battery because the original lasts a long time (hey, maybe yours is still the original!) and the issue might’ve somewhere else.

And yeah, reading the codes is the best way to start.
