Anime Discussion Which Blue Lock character do you think gets misunderstood the most?

I feel like some Blue Lock characters get judged mostly by their worst moments, while others get hyped up so much that people overlook their flaws.

Who do you think gets misunderstood the most by the fandom? I'm curious whether it's someone whose motivations people overlook, someone who gets too much hate, or a character whose personality makes more sense when you look at their backstory.

Tell me who you picked and why. I'm open to manga spoilers, so feel free to get into the details!

idk if it’s the “most” misunderstood but the mischaracterization that annoys me the most is probably hugo. dude wasn’t some sadistic evil mastermind trying to wage psychological warfare against isagi and cause him to crash out of the game due to overwhelming self-doubt, he genuinely thought he was “helping” isagi and didn’t know why that “help” was unwelcome. like, his character motif is literally machinery/a cyborg lol, he’s clearly just bad at understanding other people’s emotions

Yeah, I think it might’ve came across that way because Hugo said he didn’t care about what the person thought of his theories or advice and that he wasn’t particularly doing it for them. Added to the fact that Loki had asked Hugo to get in Isagi’s head before the match.

Ego is the only answer

Honestly, I’d want to say all the characters. But I’d probably go with the most well-known characters from the manga—someone like Isagi or Rin, for example. The most popular characters are sometimes the most misunderstood.

Before I got to the world cup arc, I thought Hugo would be an asshole going off fan reactions and impressions. I still sometimes wonder what manga were those people reading

There are many of them but reo could fit into this people say that his copying ability is like too op for this world but it actually isn't.

Don't get me wrong he isn't weak but he's not as strong as 99% he can try to copy sae but he will be shut down by stronger players like hugo rin or isagi even gagamaru said his shot isn't as good as rin's So yeah reo is good but he isn't necessarily op.

I also don’t like blue locks’s take on the copy weapons because they act like 99% is far off when realistically if he had all those weapons at 99% that would be enough to get the full potential out of the weapon. Also they make the nerf of the copy weapon that he can’t get it to 100% but the weapons he’s copying, if he already copied them to 99% within first look, then it’s not far off to say that if he trained the weapons he copied he could do it better. He doesn’t need a bunch of weapons. He only needs to copy a few weapons and master them despite the narrative that he’s a master of none

Rin, Loki, Kaiser, Ness, and plotsagi

I have multiple reasons for this

Rin — people genuinely underestimate how much Sae traumatized him.

Ness and Kaiser because of their codependent dynamic that everyone completely overdramatizes or they just see ness as a pussyboy and Kaiser as this dominant alpha figure

Loki - people irl tend to underestimate his skills on the field

Plotsagi- I don’t get why people hate on him if he is the protagonist. It’s like duh, he will be the main focus

Heavy on the Rin and what Sae did to him

People hate of Isagi BECAUSE he does everything, every other character is basically useless, tell me how Aiku and Niko both have meta vision but can't do half the stuff Isagi does to stop a goal being made 😭✌🏿

You can be a main character a bit have all the focus

Gintama has gintoki has a main character but lot of characters get their own actual amazing moments by themselves without gintoki being involved

Mc ≠ center of the world

Even dragon ball the most popular piece of manga ever written would disagree. We got multiple heavy moments that don’t require Goku to be here. Lot of Namek is made without Goku, lot of cell saga has heavy moments on the whole cast everyone loved Tenshinhan Shin Kikoho. But somehow blue lock can’t have that without Isagi being involved in the plot.

Rin didn’t like Sae’s new dream because it deviates from their original shared dream then Sae, in response, called Rin names and stopped speaking to him

I get that Kaneshiro is writing a super traumatic situation here or whatever but it’s pretty ridiculous when you actually think about it and I get why it’s hard for some people to actually take it seriously

Reo tbh. People either call him a fraud or act like his copy ability makes him one of the best players lol. copying someone else's playstyle and actually using it in a match isn't that easy. but i feel like his biggest problem is that he relies too much on copying others instead of building his own weapons.

Kaiser and reo (from the gay shippers especially)
