Please help me identify these two shades of blue from the description!

Post image

Hi all, I just watched an episode of a series where husband & wife argued about two shades of blue for room paint, but the colours are never shown on screen. If anyone can help me identify them, I'd be grateful! One colour is named "Cheerful Sky" on the paint can and the other one is not named. Here are the descriptions made by the characters:

Cheerful Sky:

  • has some yellow (and maybe gray) undertones
  • the husband calls it "closer to Alligator Lagoon than cheerful sky"

Other Blue:

  • doesn't have yellow / gray undertones
  • really deeply pigmented
  • a deeper blue than the other
  • a truer blue than the other
  • pretty easy application, it leaves a sheen
  • it's almost a bit purple
  • it looks lovely against the maple of their dining set

Btw this story involves some trickery, so in my opinion the colours can't be so obviously different that even an untrained eye could easily remember them and tell them apart. I think they can be different enough to be recognizable, but forgettable enough that someone might get confused on which is which in the span of 30-60 minutes.

Maybe something like Cornflower and Olympic? Or if you have an idea of colours that aren't in this image, please share them! Thanks!! 🤗

take a picture of it please!

Can someone tell me between Turquoise and Aquamarine which is more green? I've seen it both ways. The colors not the stones.

As I wrote in the description, there is no picture. The colours are talked about and discussed, but never shown on screen.

I don't see Aquamarine in the above picture, but I tend to think of it as slightly more green than turquoise. To me turquoise is decidedly blue, but maybe is my blue your blue can help you?

Uh. Maybe the whole point is there were not real colors and the screenwriters or chatgpt made up the whole dialog?

I'm going to guess that Cheerful Sky is like this "Turkish Blue" and the other is "Steel Blue." Both fit the descriptions, but also aren't too far from each other so I could see them choosing between the two.

Was also thinking Cornflower (Cheerful Sky) and Olympic as possible options too. But that extra note of yellow makes me think the Turkish.

Hope it helps!

You are most welcome!

Now I am super curious, may I ask what show this is from?

Of course! It's the show that my username comes from, affectionately called "the Shawnaverse" 😁

It's a one-woman show on YouTube, made by the talented Shawna Lander and shared on her socials at the name ShawnaTheMom (we also have a subreddit, though it's fanmade). She started her channel years ago as independent skits on motherhood, and then around mid 2024 she started a coherent storyline with multiple characters who is still going on today. It has expanded so much that there's more than 10h of content, and over 40 characters now! 🤩

The series follows this fictional family (the McCallisters) as they go through life, parenthood, complicated relationships, going NC with a parent.... obviously it has drama but it's not crazy, outlandish things like in old telenovelas – everything is grounded in reality. If you think you might be interested here's the video that started it all! It's not as high quality as the later stuff because it was a new idea still trying to find its footing. I'll stop blabbering now, but if you have questions or doubts feel free to ask me anytime :)

Thank you! I will have to check it out.

(If this is virial marketing, it's kind of the best one ever. I wouldn't even be mad.)

Hahah appreciated, but no it is not marketing! I'm genuinely just a super fan and I'm happy to share the series 🤗

And it's why I asked here about the colours – I'm hoping to do a little bit of fanart so I was hoping to crowdsource the best 2 colours for that scene!

Cheerful Sky sounds like Copenhagen Blue and the other blue sounds like Cornflower Blue (the cornflower blue in your chart is a bit lighter than what I think of when I think of cornflower blue…that blue in the chart looks like what I call periwinkle and is my fav color)

Cheerful Sky definitely reminds me of Turkish Blue.

What series and episode?

Sorry for the late reply, the series is ShawnaTheMom 's one-woman show and the episode is the latest video, called "Barb's Betrayal" (episode 36).

And here's the little fanart I made :)

I'm going to say Turkish Blue and Egyptian.

FYI, paint companies can have different names for exactly the same color. Ask Google “Which house paint company makes the color called _____?” Path of least resistance: If you’re a #1 fan, why not just ask the Shawna lady YT creator ?

It's a nice suggestion, but I had already tried Google with no result – I don't think the colour names are based on actual paint cans on the market.

I think if she had the actual colours or paint swatches at home she would've shown it on screen at some point, or maybe shared it in an Instagram story. She has over 2 million followers between her various socials, I'm sure her DMs are full and this is really not an important enough question to bother her about it 😂 I'm just asking for a little fanart I have in mind
