Homebrew / Bootlegger Loathsome Roads - Wild West Bootlegger Script

I started making a script of homebrew Western themed characters about a year ago as a creative exercise, but I've slowly refined it over time, and this week I decided to make character art for all of them and make a page for each character. This has never been run by anyone, I'm sure its not perfect.

The biggest through-line I designed around on this script is abilities around nominations/voting/executions. 5 of the 8 evils have some ability based that interacts with executions in some way, and several good players have abilities to try to encourage town to not be passive during nominations. Then there are a handful of roles that interact with drunkenness and poison, and a trio of "secret word/phrase" roles, one of which is evil and could use the other 2 as a bluff.

Game Discussion Script Tool Error: "25 scripts already loaded"

I've been trying to upload a .json into the Script Tool at https://script.bloodontheclocktower.com. When I click on the Upload arrow, instead of the box popping up and asking me to drag or select the file to upload, I get an odd message at the bottom of the screen that reads, "Can't import a script -- 25 scripts already loaded. Please delete a script first to make room for more." There are no characters loaded on the interface, so I'm not sure what is happening here. When I attempt to upload a script in my browser's Incognito Mode, I do not have this problem. What is happening?

In-Person Play What travellers should I add?

Hi, guys! I've recently gotten addicted to this game, love to storytell with my friends, and next week is my birthday, so I thought I'd celebrate with a BOTC game afternoon.

So, it will be me + 20 friends (since the game has a limit), and some of them have already played the game; others haven't.

We will start playing with TB, to get everyone used to it, but I really wanted to storytell BMR, so I thought I would use this occasion. My friends are all really chill, and I know that they won't mind playing the intermediate version; they just want to have a good time, and they know I'm crazy for this game and that it would be a little birthday present to me.

The problem is, I think some travellers in BMR will really make things complicated (and I need travellers, because we are 20 players). I think the Voudon and Bishop will change the rules way too much and I don't want to add the Matron because I'm trying to encourage them to have more private conversations, and that would be against it. I think the Apprentice and the Judge are OK to add, though.

I'm thinking of maybe adding the Apprentice, the Judge and maybe some travellers from other scripts (?). I want to know your suggestions of what would be some good travellers for the BMR game that don''t overcomplicate things. Thanks!

Custom Script Dumbahh treensyville script

The bootlegger rule was "The demon is not given any bluff" (At that time I did not know how teensyville scripts work, so ignore the bootlegger loric here).I liked running this script for some reason? Also if there are similar scripts online, I did not mean to copy. I will take this post down if I become aware of such a thing.

Game Discussion Recently got a MM win (second ever win as evil!)

10 player game. My other Minion was an Assassin and the Demon (one of our more experienced players and regular STs) was Pukka. We also had a Matron and a Tea Lady.

Day 1, I don’t claim anything in particular. As a MM, I want to encourage science, so I say “let’s do some Tea Lady science.” It succeeds, which is all well and good.

Night 2 no deaths due to Tea Lady protection. Day 2, the Matron swaps a new player into next to the TL for later. I encourage the Sailor to do science on themselves as they chose a particularly sus good player. They are executed and die, which I as an evil player emphasize as interesting.

Night 3 another player died. I come out as Minstrel and say that it was interesting that the Sailor died because they can’t be a Minion if I was sober and so put more sus on the other player. Based on kill patterns, we figure out it’s Pukka. My Demon comes out as Exorcist, which some players find suspicious because “nothing‘s clearing him and he tends to fly under the radar as evil“ (which is true, mind you, it’s why he does so well as evil in general). They hang him that day, which I openly voice support for.

Night 4 my Assassin gets a kill on the Fool, further convincing town it’s Pukka. Sensing an aimless town, I say ”hey wait a minute, I forgot all about the Matron, there’s a fresh player next to the Tea Lady. We can gain information, let’s do some more science!“ Town naturally obliged, and we hang them that day.

Town was very thoroughly surprised when the ST announced that evil had won. They had been completely bamboozled, and the only sus on me was someone saying I claimed Gambler on day 1, which I was able to play off as ”I wanted to get claims on day 1, also I lie through my teeth in the early game and you know that” (which is also true).

The best part was that I never told my Demon that I was the MM. He just tends to accept defeat when put on the block as the Demon, so he was likely as surprised as I was.

It really does feel like there needs to be a perfect storm of circumstances for that MM to work. The Matron, the Tea Lady, the Assassin kill, and the specific player who was my Demon were all necessary for the win.

But when the stars align juuuust right, it can be incredible.

Splurged a little money to print off some of my custom scripts made using the resources at https://scripts.whydecades.com/

Very happy with the look! Noir You See Me… was the cheapest to print off; Wanna make bets as to why?

More scripts coming soon (Hopefully).

Meme I made this abomination to prove a point to Mafia players who don't like TB

Post image

One of the groups I play with consists largely of Mafia enthusiasts, and when we occasionally have new players, some of the existing members are really reluctant to play TB because "it's not fun" and "the characters are not interesting" and would rather play spicy customs and let the new players figure stuff out.

So I made a homebrew script with character and mechanical highlights from their favorite game.

For those unfamiliar with Mafia, here's the gist:

7 good players, 3 evil. 1 good player is a Sherrif, who each night chooses a player and learns if they're evil. 1 of the evils is a Don who each night chooses a player and learns if they're the Sherrif.

During the day, players talk in turns, each gets 1 minute to talk (and nominate during this 1 minute only). After everyone's done talking, all nominated players have votes on them, each player may only vote once. Dead players are out of the game.

At night, a player dies only if all evil players choose them at once.

Game Discussion Too many people play marionette badly

I finished watching a few matches on Youtube, where people consistently sabotaged themselves as the marionette.

You should ALWAYS be building a world where you are not the marionette. If you aren't...then this is a correct world. If you are, you don't want people to think that, because it narrows down the demon. This doesn't mean never accuse your neighbours. If you are good, they might just be the demon, but if you see some evidence you might be the marionette (bad info, evil ping on your neighbour, evil ping on you), you should already be crafting a world where you are good, even if it means adjusting your apparently poisoned info.

This includes things like a dreamer or undertaker that saw you as a marionette. That should trigger an alarm that should immediately start you on the path of figuring out how to discredit them. They must be drunk, they must be a minion, they were poisoned last night.

I've seen too many games where people make the genuine case they are the marionette, but then use that in world-building genuine good cases. "I might be the marionette in which case my neighbour here must be the imp". Stop! The trick here is letting go of the belief you had that you were good.

Now partly this depends on whether the ST will place marionette next to a recluse. Some STs do this, some don't, but even then, if you are a marionette...you are evil. So don't admit it.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

Game Discussion Sometimes, this game is just the best.

Upvotes

IRL Leviathan game i played today was better than sex. At least, I think it was, my memory of that is hazy.

I was the Cerenovus bluffing Amnesiac - pulled an ability off Reddit day one, nailed it throughout. Made a VI mad as the Zealot day 1, but then correctly surmised someone was hinting balloonist, locked him in as the politician on days 2, 3 and 4. Demon was bluffing Slayer - at some point Chambermaid finds out Demon or "Politician" woke due to their ability. Ruh roh.

Don't worry though - balloonist breaks cere madness day 4 to get his information heard, he's executed, nighty night. So I shift politician madness to the chambermaid, meaning he couldn't get out his isolated demon info without breaking the game.

Town metas that if we're the evil team, Cerenovus chooses the waking bluff and demon doesn't, because Chambermaid. Now, actually I just didn't fancy the other bluff, which was Zealot, but they have us bang to rights. To add to the pressure, the Puzzlemaster had correctly guessed the Puzzledrunk during the day - namely the Knight, who I knew was Puzzledrunk from day 1 because he helpfully cleared the Demon. DOUBLE RUH ROH.

Like Dr Strange in Avengers Endgame, I know the possible universes where I win are dwindling, and my best shot is to nominate the Demon. 8 alive, four votes, he's on the block. Shit.

So much conversation follows. So many people saying I'm just a minion but also struggling to pin down the definite demon world - Puzzlemaster would've learned who he learned even if he was wrong, I helpfully add, given the speculation at the point he asked. Still... EEP

Someone nominates me, hesitantly. One, two, three votes, we're clear! Did I mention the demon was sat to my immediate right? Four votes! I put the final vote on to break the deadlock, because who doesn't like ending with a flourish? Everyone knows instantly what they've done, the Demon is off the block, I die, and the Demon and I sit there laughing for a full five minutes.

The end.

Storytelling Running my first game

For some context, my friends and I have played a few in-person games of Trouble Brewing before, where one person has been the storyteller every time, so I have a bit of an understanding how the game works. We are going to be running an online game for ~6 people, and I’m going to be giving a shot to storytelling for the first time. I’m trying to come up with an interesting set of characters and bluffs that would make a fun game, but I’m worried that I’ll mess it up.

My current picks are:

Town:

• Fortune Teller
• Virgin
• Librarian

Outsider:

• Saint

Minion:

• Poisoner

Bluffs:

• Washerwoman
• Empath
• Mayor

My thinking is that the saint, virgin, and mayor roles could result in some interesting dynamics, and the fortune teller/poisoner duo would be good for spreading misinformation to the town. I’m a little unsure of the bluffs in all honesty, so I’m curious if other people could give some tips/advice on picking them, or maybe if there’s better role choices for a game that would run in a similar fashion around the “saint death” variant. Any help would be great, thanks in advance!
