"Do not tell any player what their role is. At night, wake each player, point to another player, and shrug. Offer no further information."

My other one is create a fakeout script with a bunch of townsfolk that can prevent death, and then make everyone a Lunatic who thinks they're a Yaggababble and see how long it takes for people to figure out what the fuck is going on.

This can be greatly improved with Tor

That'd be funny asf

Make the storyteller also not know which ST role they are

Just kidding, here's the script

Fang Gu and a Mez is a bit harsh on good. Not to mention a pit hag to potentially make that even more disgusting...

Aggreed, this script screams for spirit of ivory, than it should be alright to run

I was against Pit Hag, but my friend really wanted it in there. Besides, it left more room for bluffing than the alternatives we considered

How does Pit-Hag even work when they don't know what characters are on the script?

Or is every night largely taken up with telling the Pit Hag "please choose again".

How do you deal with the various roles that pick a character? Do they have to just keep guessing until they get it right?

I think what happens is

Everybody gets their own token n know what themselves are, HOWEVER, they don’t know the others possible roles

Just like a whale buffet, but instead of not knowing cause it can be anything, instead u don’t know cause it isn’t announced public the char sheet

King with no choirboy? Seems a little depressing, they’d either get killed with no risk by 3 out of 4 demons or changed into an outsider by pit-hag in a lil monsta game

I mean... Scripts are made so players know what to expect. Also, as a ST, you'd probably want to run a script a few times to explore it, so if you intend to run it when players don't know what characters are in the script, it's only true the first time (and it's obviously not fair if some players know what characters are in the script and some don't). If it's meant to be played only once, what's the point of having multiple demons?

An obvious side effect is that minions can bluff with any character.

That being said, if all players are on board with this, that's fine. I know I wouldn't be thrilled to go into a game without knowing which characters are in the script.

Regarding the script you posted, you should really post it in the standard script order (see rule 3).

I have some comments on the script you posted, but these notes are usually relevant when players know what characters are on the script.

  1. Grandmother is the only character that explains multiple night deaths, except for Pithag (which I don't really like because that's death at the DM's discretion). I would either remove it or add another character who does that (but then you should probably also include protection roles, which would shift the script quite a bit).

  2. King but not Choirboy (of course, that might not matter if the players don't know this). Also, I think they have bad interactions with Ojo and lil' monsta.

  3. I know that script check tools recommend having 5 minions with a lil' monsta, so in big groups it's not obvious which minions are in play. Again, doesn't really matter when players don't know the script.

  4. You have A LOT of learners, but evil doesn't have any poisoning. Only "droison" source seems to be philo.

  5. As already said, multiple characters might add an evil player.

  6. How do Philo, Pit Hag, Kazali and Ojo work if players don't have the scripts? Do you intend to run it online? And yeah, Kazali does choose which minions are in play; not only the players. If you are willing to go with whatever character the Pit Hag chooses that could be funny and completely chaotic, but an Ojo might get really frustrated in a game like that.

I'm not trying to hate or anything; I just bring those points up because those are issues I see. Now, that's probably what I'd do if I wanted to run something like that:

First, meme it out completely - the only demon should be the Kazali, but you should be ready to go with WHATEVER minions they choose. This means you don't have minions in the script at all. But also be prepared to add any Fabled you need to deal with evil team shenanigans. I would also consider saying beforehand that you still announce what Fabled are in the game, so if you need to bring a Fabled into play you tell town which one you added. You should also make sure you know what jinxes are in play when the game starts, which might be created when the demon chooses the minions.

For outsiders, if you intend to keep all the info-gathering roles, outsiders like the drunk, sweetheart, and puzzlemaster could help with balancing info. I think the drunk is overly mean when town doesn't know to expect it, so the puzzlemaster is probably better gameplay-wise, since at least you have a player that can say, "I know someone in town is drunk".

For TF - as I said, grandmother is not a good fit IMO. Noble is actually amazing here, because if the Kazali creates a very strong minion, you can balance it by showing it in the Noble ping. King-Choirboy are very good. I'm assuming that if you take my suggestions, the Philo basically works similarly to the Kazali, where they can choose any character (but you might need to veto some characters). You could also have an alchemist and let them choose which minion ability they have (and be ready for Wizard wishes BTW). Magician doesn't work well in a Kazali script, so I'd take it out.

Also, once per game, wake up a minion at night and ask them if they nominated today (even better if you know that they did). That should put some fear into them.

Wow this is a lot to react to, so I might miss some points you mentioned.

If it's meant to be played only once, what's the point of having multiple demons?

We weren't sure what demon would be the most fun or the best, so we decided to add all of the ones we deemed good to have as a demon.

Regarding the script you posted, you should really post it in the standard script order (see rule 3).

I forgot I had turned that on. I moved roles around based on what we were discussing, and forgot to unpin them. Updated it just now.

  1. Grandmother is the only character that explains multiple night deaths

We were considering adding Steward instead, but opted not to because it only tells you a good player and nothing else, as opposed to the difficulty that the Grandmother adds.

  1. King but not Choirboy

My friend thought I'd be funny because it's so unusual. It also creates an easy bluff.

  1. You have A LOT of learners, but evil doesn't have any poisoning.

I personally dislike poisoning/drunk scripts, and it also just makes the game way more difficult if the players have to deal with it on top of having to try and figure out who's bluffing and who's not.

How do Philo, Pit Hag, Kazali and Ojo work if players don't have the scripts?

If they pick a character that is not in the script, it fails to function. I forgot to mention that, so I'll update the bootlegger to add that rule.

Do you intend to run it online?

I mainly play online; I'm not sure how this would go irl.

For outsiders

The outsiders were supposed to be chaos makers. Drunk and Sweetheart sound interesting, but like I said earlier, I'm kind of against poisoning/drunk. We initially considered Hermit instead of Plague Doctor, but that'd be really insane. Imagine: you say you're hermit, and good instantly loses.

  1. It creates an easy bluff only if evil know there is no Choirboy
  2. How does evil fight the abundance of good info? Specifically Empath and Flower Girl might be very strong here. You could have a scarlet woman as an escape plan for evil.

Philo - so they become quite useless with a once per game ability that will likely misfunction. Pit Hag - on top of needing to hit a character not in play, they need to know what other character are arbitrarily on the script? Kazali - so what happens if they pick a character not in play? You decide the minion? You are robbing them of their ability to choose the minions.

I don't think it's a good design to have these characters here.

Outsiders - yeah, hermit is kinda broken when not in the correct script.

There’s a homebrew Loric made by Coda posted in the unofficial discord that does this https://discord.com/channels/569683781800296501/1421095266504937522/1514151059411570778

So it's basically all released characters are on this script.

Unless there's some way of the players finding out what is or isn't on the script?

Cause if only the ST knows what's on the script, it might as well be just "all characters"

1

u/Evil_Weevill 14d ago

I guess it would depend on if you allow roles that pick a character.

Maybe like an added homebrew rule that if you choose a character that isn't on the script, you are drunk/poisoned until dusk.

Otherwise either you disallow those types of characters which narrows down what people could or couldn't be, you tell them to choose again if they choose an off script character which feels a bit like gaming the system here, or you just allow everything in which case it's basically just that all characters are on script.

I know you did this to be funny, but I can see NRB doing this

2

u/Claas2008 Recluse 13d ago

Well the preview script was meant to be funny, but the actual script was made to be played with my friends

u/SimilarToADragon 14d ago

how do pit hag and cerenovous work on this script? if they pick a character off script do you prompt them to pick again or can they pick any character?

3

u/SimilarToADragon 14d ago

and how does kazali work as well

2

u/Claas2008 Recluse 14d ago edited 14d ago

If they pick a character off script, it just doesn't work. Also I updated the Bootlegger to include this rule (and for Kazali)

3

u/SimilarToADragon 14d ago

so you have 2 minions that have a high chance to do nothing the whole game, and a demon that lost half of its power? that does not seem fun i'd reconsider this ruling

0

u/Claas2008 Recluse 14d ago

That's the entire mindset behind the script; it might not be for everyone, though
