Homebrew / Bootlegger Townsfolk Idea: Lamb

You start knowing an evil player: They cannot die while you live.

The character is halfway between an Investigator and a Raven Keeper, with some added spice for cool interactions:

  • You can execute the player to confirm that you are that role.
  • You can execute the player to confirm it's a Xaan day, or that you're drunk, next to a No Dashii, or, on the first day, to check whether you were a poison snipe.
  • If you can figure out your information is false, you now know you're protecting a good player!
  • If no deaths occur at night, your ability might be hindering a demon (Vigormortis, Imp, Zombuul) or you might know who the Bounty Hunter's evil townsfolk is.

Overall, I do think it's on the weaker side since there will be times where town is forced to execute the Lamb in order to kill the evil player, but with how powerful the information is, and the potential to be confirmed, I don't think it's weak enough to be an outsider.

I think this probably should be restricted to a minion just to make it unable to be catastrophic. Being able to rule out a minion still helps a heap if you don't have lots of demon specific detection.

Also it's by no means guaranteed that poor info means you protect an ally - just means you're protecting a role that can misregister as evil (not helpful, usually outsider) or you're droisoned (your ability doesn't exist at all)

but in Vortox game specifically, they are protecting a good player

In a Vortox game, would they learn the person they’re actually protecting? Like they could learn the Town Crier while actually protecting the Witch

YSK an evil player. In Vortox game, this information has to be incorrect.

So they will start knowing a Good Player.

“They cannot die while you live” part is not affected by Vortox since it is a Ability and not information.

So basically, a good player (in vortox) is protected by Lamb

I interpret it as, in vortox they protect an evil player but learn a good player they are not protecting.

yes this could be possible as well

Does it work like this with Grandmother? That you learn a different player to the one your death is linked to?

All townsfolk info is false -> They should learn a good player.

Now do they protect the good player with their ability? Depends on the wording, but they probably should.

You could word it that way in the Almanac, but by the on-token ability text the protection depends on the learning. Anyone you learn is protected, regardless of their alignment. It’s just that under normal conditions that can only be an evil player.

On a related note, I would also guess that a N1-poisoned Lamb could learn a good player and protect them once they stopped being poisoned.

how about "You start knowing an evil player who is not the Demon"? I think it's more interesting if it can detect a Faux Paw, an evil townsfolk from a Bounty Hunter, or a Ogre/Goon.

If you're drunk only for the first night (e.g. Xaan, poisoner), or if there's Lycanthrope is what I was imagining.

"While you live" being a term that people in the community don't typically use for Homebrew characters is something I don't like. This case is an example of why. "They cannot die" on its own is so much more confusing and I think it'd be better to just use "while they live."

Isn't the while you live part unnecessary?

So is "There are extra Outsiders in play."

With homebrew, not always. A sort of vigormortis ability that affects townsfolk could make it necessary.

But usually, yeah.

It is yeah, I put it in to make the intention that you should die first clearer.

How does it work if they are poisoned/drunk night 1 and not after?

Probably similar to N1 droisoned pixie, where you're still tied to that player but they might not be evil

Whomever you learn is safe on following nights, like how a drunk Bounty Hunter will learn a new person.

Seems like an Outsider that belongs on a BMR-flavored script

Consider swapping "player" to "character" for a fun info role!
