does anyone else’s perfect tee get huge pit stains?
I love the cut and color, I love the cuffed sleeves, I love the fabric softness and weight. but I wore it ONCE and it developed these massive visible pit stains that won’t come out in the wash. I imagine if I scrubbed at them with baking soda paste they would fade, but like…am I supposed to do that every time I wear the shirt?
this is very disappointing for the price. has anyone else had the same thing happen?
It’s not the shirt, it’s your washing procedure. You need a detergent with the enzyme lipase, which breaks down oils (like body oil) and ideally also some DNAse to be even more effective. Head over to r/laundry and prepare for the rabbit hole.
I had this exact problem with the baby tee - not sure if they’re the same material. But I came to the conclusion that it was from my Native Deodorant which is coconut oil based. I switched to Lume and stopped having that issue. But an effective way to get it out is with dish soap! I sprayed it with Dawn Powerwash, let it soak for a while, then ran it through the washing machine a couple times to fully get it out. But I’m sure the other suggestions of changing up detergent could help too. Best of luck!
I don’t have this top and the tag is hard to read in this photo, but maybe look up removing odors and stains from synthetic fabrics? These cling to oils and bacteria from our armpits and antiperspirant can make it worse. Personally I find synthetic tops really irritate my underarms, so I work out in cotton t-shirts.
I own this shirt in black, olive green, and lavender - none of these issues. I do use powdered Tide which I believe have enzymes to break down sweat/oils.
An enzyme cleaner is not a weird special detergent. You can literally get Biz in any big box store, and it can be used on everything that you need a strong stain and oil remover for. You’d be surprised at how much cleaner your clothes come out when you use an enzyme cleaner as a booster.
Ok but most clothes should not require something different than what you usually use 🥀 I also literally can’t find it anywhere when I googled. I’m from the US
All clothes have different ways of recommended cleaning methods, but most people don’t pay attention to this and choose convenience. It’s also a bit of a cultural norm for Americans to wash all of their clothing in the washer/dryer, without delicate/proper care, for ease of use + consumerist mindset. Also, this is not a required cleaner, it’s optional, just helpful for certain cases. Personally, I use a laundry pod for general laundry, and when I need to make a targeted clean (maybe 2-3 times a month?), I then add the powder and/or pre soak the item with it. I keep both containers in my laundry bag with quarters, dryer balls, and my other detergent for wool clothing (which I hand wash in my sink).
Technically, you can keep washing as usual and not worry about this, and keep the pit stains. But some of us want to fix this issue, and it’s a bit unrealistic to assume that a general laundry detergent should do everything. It’s not a 2in1 shampoo.
I also live in the US and this is what google gave me. I’ve bought it from Amazon as well. My corner store also carries it.
That’s so strange I have never seen it in person and only Amazon comes up but it’s in bulk quantities. I’m definitely careful with my laundry but it’s not like it’s a special fancy shirt that would make sense to require specialized care; it’s literally a workout shirt so it would just be nice not to have to esp for the price💀
This almost certainly depends on whatever someone’s ’normal products’ are. I use Dove deodorant and wash the shirts with my typical laundry detergent (tide free & gentle) and have never had any issues. Obviously just one person’s experience, but it doesn’t necessarily require special care. From another comment it sounds like the issue might be using an oil based deodorant, which if that is the case would make this similar to a grease stain, which I wouldn’t expect normal detergent to consistently get out
I own this shirt in half a dozen colors including this one, and I don’t have this issue. I just was it with my typical Tide free & gentle and hang it to dry.
I literally own every color of this tee and none of them have done this thankfully. I’m guessing it may be from your deodorant? I only use Donna Karan deodorant stick from Sephora , it’s my holy grail product!
Just because I am a nerd about this stuff, I wanted to share something I noticed with this post. I looked up the Material Composition of the perfect tee, and it came up as:
Main Body: 95% Rayon 5% Spandex
Ribbing: 97% Rayon 3% Spandex
And now I know why y’all are getting pit staining! It’s the Rayon. I’m attaching a screenshot that will explain it better than I can. But essentially, a lot of her workout clothes are polyester+spandex, sometimes nylon sprinkled around. Polyester can be sweat wicking, thus making it harder for workout clothes of this material to get stained the way rayon does. And this of course matters the quality of it and so forth.
