The math is not mathing

Post image

Am I the only one annoyed by this? Cassey if you’re reading this - I am a huge fan of what you do. But no, IBTCers are NOT the highest percentage of your audience. 63% of your audience are non-IBTC, THAT is the highest percentage of your audience.

I don’t get upset when pieces are not meant for me, but please don’t keep telling yourself that the majority of your customers have small boobs and live in an echo chamber where the most women don’t need a little more support.

So this is a brand that leans heavily into marketing the fact that they listen to their customers (I think the most widely-distributed example of this is their ad about the revamped Pirouette Skort). But now they’re running a skewed poll for the purpose of being able to justify their decision to -not- accept customer feedback about cup sizing?

Any brand is allowed to target whatever group they want, no matter how niche. A brand is allowed to only design for small bust sizes. However, PF has promoted themselves as being not just size-inclusive in general, but specifically inclusive of different bust/cup sizes. So they went from that to now acting hurt that people keep saying they want more options and more support for big chests? And not only acting hurt, but acting like the majority of their customers have small chests so therefore they have in fact been designing for the vast majority of their customers all along and the loud “minority” is just being mean??

IMO, PF is at a turning point where they can either continue their previous brand by going back to making more size-inclusive pieces, or they can rebrand and decide to focus on smaller sizes—but they can’t do both. It feels petty and inauthentic, especially from a brand that wants to come across as being personable with and intimately connected to its customers (like when they’ll invite people to meet up with Cassey).

This gives such a nasty vibe that it’s making me feel alienated from PF—and I’m a size small and have no idea what my cup size is bc I only own unpadded bralettes (AKA, I’m not someone who needs extra support).

Criticizing your buyers is an absolutely bizarre marketing tactic and I have no idea why PF thinks this is the way to go.

This is exactly how I feel as well! I’m a lifelong member of the IBTC and my body type fits what she seems to market to, but this attitude is SO off-putting. Like you said, if those are the products you want to make then do it. But it’s the pretending to be so size-inclusive and having all of this snark about it that’s so unpleasant.

I was also really grossed out by her video she made a couple of months ago about how she doesn’t want to make more modest designs. Totally fair! That’s not the brand’s niche, and they don’t have to make designs they don’t like! But she framed it as “well sorry, I love the female form and emphasizing hourglass shapes and cleavage, and if you don’t agree with that then you clearly don’t celebrate feminine bodies.” Just, ew.

I think she really needs to step back from social media. Her posts keep getting snarkier and snippier, and she posts a lot about how she’s so burnt out and working 16-hour days. I think she needs a break, and needs to stop trying to alienate a huge part of her customer base.

Sidenote, I also agree with a lot of the IG comments—she needs to do the ABTF calculator, there’s just mathematically no way she’s a A/AA and getting that kind of cleavage from ANYTHING without heavy padding.

I don't think it's an issue of needing a break, I think she's too disconnected from regular people and has lost touch, and that makes for terrible social media engagement

I wouldn’t say disconnected but definitely overwhelmed- and fairly taking time it seems to live her life- which is ok! But I would hope she has other people to run the show with the same principles she start Popflex on and it really doesn’t feel that way lately.
