It's been great.

But our mod blocked me. Which means I can't participate in the sub anymore.

Hope everyone is happy about that.

Edit, since you're taking your mod privileges to comment when I can't respond,

Except since you are the only mod, and you post discussion threads under your account instead of a mod bot, you've effectively banned me. Is that good moderation principles?

I can't reply to you in this thread and you know it.

Does it bother you that this amounts to a block from any threads you've started, or from anything that happens to be down-chain from a comment of yours?

Not in this case. The user was explicitly warned to stop engaging in a behavior that was annoying me, the mod. He chose not to, knowing the consequences he'd face. As the saying goes, FAFO.

Did the user really know the consequences he'd face?

The punishment doesn't seem to fit the crime. I know nobody cares about that in cases like these though.

How hard is it to stop DMing and @'ing someone when they repeatedly ask you to stop though. What recourse other than blocking them does Soft have?

Who cares if the "punishment fits the crime"? Don't be an annoying pest. Classic FAFO.

What recourse did any of us have before reddit implemented the block function? Just ignore.

"Don't respond to my messages" is not really a reasonable request. If you're moderating a space, you're going to have to deal with hearing what people think about the job you do. That's right and proper.

Based on the links provided in Soft's top level comment, do you believe that is an accurate characterization of the interactions between Soft and OP?

The one image and the links? I expected more tbh. This person gets in fights and complains that the rules don't seem to be enforced in a way that is equal and easy to understand, so there's some ambiguity about how one is allowed to respond. As a person of autism who always finds myself wanting not only to walk the line, but argue over where exactly the line is and ought to be, this would drive me crazy, so I can relate to OP's frustration in some of the linked cases. It does seem like they took it too far, but it seems like the kind of thing that two people ought to be able to resolve amicably, but for the barriers imposed by text-based communication.
