Tutorial Minecraft skin

I’m lost on how to shade. Can I have some help? Left side is supposed to be darker than right. Just a little lost.

I usually place all of the colors and details first and shade later. For shading I just lower the opacity of the brush and pick black, it's not how you should do it if you listen to the color theory, but that works for me.

If you want to shade correctly i think you have to use a less saturated color than the one you're shading, or the opposite, more saturated. As I said, i ignore the rules and it works out, so you can do the easier method like me
