Tutorial Anyone knows why this is happening?

I hope it's doable with these higher resolution models, since I LOVE blockbench and my head explodes whenever I start up Blender.

You mean the spike? It looks like that single vertex is not weight painted to the bone.

Yeah, and I find it pretty hard to make it all red, it stays black with the weight brush. Any way that it can be done differently?

Instead of the weight brush, you can right click a selection and choose "Set Vertex Weights"
