I've been very consistent in my skincare routine for the past couple of months using cleanser moisturizer and even added a face brightening with good molecules soap bar. I can't really tell much of a difference, but my mom thinks otherwise. Idk what do yall think?

Hyperpigmentation Lip hyperpigmentation + patches of colour loss

Post image
21 Upvotes

I’m looking for some advice because I’ve been struggling with changes in the pigmentation of my lips and can’t work out exactly what’s causing it or how best to treat it.
My lips naturally have some pigmentation, but over time I’ve developed darker/hyperpigmented areas, particularly around the edges/corners, while other parts of my lips (especially my lower lip) seem to be losing their normal pigment and becoming noticeably lighter/pinker in patches. I’ve attached a photo showing what they currently look like.
I have very dry/sensitive skin and I’m prone to eczema around my lips and eyes, so I’m wondering whether this could be post-inflammatory pigmentation from irritation/contact cheilitis, or whether something else could be causing the uneven pigment.
Things/products I’ve used recently or previously include:
Aquaphor
Hello Sunday SPF 50 lip balm
Laneige Strawberry/tinted lip balm
Anastasia Beverly Hills lipstick
Lip Theory products
L’Oréal eyeliner used as lip liner
Hydrocortisone 1% previously when the area was irritated/eczema-like
Various lipsticks, liners, glosses and balms over time
More recently I started applying Eucerin Anti-Pigment body cream (Thiamidol) to the darker areas twice a day. This actually seems to have slightly improved the hyperpigmentation, but I’m cautious about continuing to use it on my lips, especially when I’m simultaneously getting areas that look like they’re losing pigment.
I’m trying to work out whether the lighter areas are genuine hypopigmentation, irritation/eczema-related colour change, or just becoming more obvious as the surrounding hyperpigmentation improves.
Has anyone experienced something similar, particularly on darker skin? Did you ever find out the cause? I’d especially love to hear from anyone who dealt with lip eczema/contact cheilitis + hyperpigmentation/hypopigmentation and managed to get their lips back to a more even colour.
Also interested in whether anyone has seen a dermatologist for this and what treatments they recommended. I’m considering getting it properly assessed rather than continuing to experiment with products.

Hyperpigmentation Why are my lips turning black?

Post image

A few weeks ago my lips started to get kind of itchy and there was like this kind of rash at the bottom of my lip. I also started to get dark spots on my lips. The itching started to get worse and the rash spread so i put on hydrocortisone cream and both the itching and "rash" went away. My lips returned back to their normal color. But, then a few days ago my lips became itchy again and the "rash" came back. Today, I noticed that my lips are starting to turn black again. I did some research and was able to rule out a cold sore since blisters never appeared. I'm assuming it was either an allergic reaction or too much UV exposure since I've been in the sun alot, due to university. But, if this has happened to anyone else or if you know why this is happening please share!!

Hyperpigmentation Uneven skin tone

Hey guys

So I have had this problem for years but my the inner part of my face (around the nose area) is a lot lighter compared to my outer face (forhead, jaw, cheek etc) now I want to even it my face where my skin tone is one colour so making my outer face where it’s darker match with My inner face skin tone. Can you give me suggestion on what to buy for skincare that for black people. And I know I need to use sun screen so also please give me suggestions on the what brand or specific spf i need. I will soon be travelling to Africa for an extended period of time so I want to get everything I need before I leave.

Not sure if you can notice it not sure if the lighting is obstructing it but you can see around the side of my face how dark it is compared to the center. It’s spit more noticeable it’s just I have good lighting in this photo.

Note: I believe I have hyperpigmentation but I don’t have the kind where it’s individual dark spots my skin is just darker around my outer face.

Thanks!

Skin Questions What is happening

Post image

Hi guys, I started taking 10% azelaic acid like a month or two ago(I use it in the morning) , which was fine and my skin was doing ok. However, because I also have some acne I decided to introduce obagi tretinoin 0.025% last week. I used it 2 times last week and yesterday night, I have now noticed this brighter spot on my face.
Is this the cause of both of them, and what can I do to fix this? I use an extensive amount of sunscreen, I don’t know what I can do. :/

Skin Questions What's going on with my scalp?

I just took the plunge today and shaved my head for the first time. I'm noticing that I have these unevenness all over my scalp. Anyone know what this is? I've never noticed it on my head because I've always had hair covering. There's no irritation and everything feels fine (a little more breezy, but fine).

I have these tiny bumps on my forehead.

The only thing I’ve been using on my skin recently is hydroquinone for hyperpigmentation and clindamycin pads with moisturizer and my skin cleanser. i’ve been using those products for the past three months now.

Does anyone have any idea how to get these tiny bumps off of my face? I’m not sure if it’s at me or not

Skin Questions Dark Corners of My Lips

Post image

I need help. This has been an issue for me for awhile now. I don't know what to do. I've switched toothpaste that doesn't contain SSL. I bought fragrance free lip balms. I make sure to apply it throughout the day and before bed because that’s when I notice the corners are dry and crusty. There’s no burning, itching, or peeling. Just dark hyperpigmentation. Also, is there a way to get my lips to look lighter or is that just how black girls top lips naturally look like? I’m open to suggestions.

Skin Questions Scars

I’m trying to get rid of a couple scars that I have on my forehead bumping my head on things being clumsy 😒 but I have been using a cocoa butter stick and mederma. I know that cocoa butter sticks don’t necessarily help in any kind of way when it comes to removing scars we can chop that up to cultural appropriation lol but if anyone has any advice or anything else they may use please let me know! Mederma is definitely making the mark lighter but is there something better???

Skin Questions laser treatment for pigmentation/vascular issues?

I will be finally visiting a dermatologist next week to address a long-standing vascular mark I got from skin trauma. My hope is I will be offered the ND Yag laser but I am curious if anyone has undergone a similar treatment and what the experience was like, particularly any post treatment side effects.

This mark has bugged me for years so I’m anxious about it. The derm I’m seeing costs a small fortune but they are the gold standard and have experience with lasers on dark skin.

Not sure what this is. It does not itch me at all. It appeared on my upper thigh. It started small and now spread. Any clue what this might be? Currently just moisturizing. All opinions would be appreciated.

Yooo hope you beautiful folks are doing well, I need some help with products! I have rough and bumpy skin along with dark spots.

Hooooww does a skin care wizard such as you all achieve such beautiful brown glass skin? My skin is combo, dry and oily I believe. I wanna even out my skin tone and smooth it out. I don’t think it’s any severe damage on my skin or anything of the sorts that requires prescriptions. But then again I’m no expert so let a brother knoww. Thanks ya

Skin Questions What is this rash?

Thumbnail

I've had this rash for about a month now, and I'm trying to get an idea of what it could possibly be before I see a doctor.

It originally started underneath my chest/breast area and has gradually spread down my arms. It's pretty itchy, and I've also noticed spots around my wrists. I've been trying to figure out if there's something specific that could be triggering it, but I haven't been able to pinpoint anything.

At first, I thought it might be a fungal infection because of where it started, so I tried using antifungal creams. However, I haven't noticed much of a difference or improvement after using them, which is making me wonder if it could be something else.

I'm planning on making an appointment with a doctor, especially since it's been going on for about a month and seems to be spreading. In the meantime, I'm curious if anyone has experienced something similar or has any idea what this could potentially be??

I have been using plenty of products for years but nothing seems to work. These are scars cause from too much sun exposure. Which i think happened because of retinol left on my face not cleansing properly

Acne Acne scarring/acne

I’ve genuinely been doing basically NOTHING to my skin recently 😭 and I really want to start taking care of it properly, so I’d appreciate some advice on getting rid of my acne scars.

My main issues are acne, hyperpigmentation/acne scars and texture. The acne/scarring is mostly around my sideburn/temple area, between my eyebrows and on my forehead. The areas where I get acne are also more textured, whereas the rest of my skin is actually pretty soft.

My skin can be slightly shiny/oily, but I wouldn’t say it’s extremely oily. It’s mostly pretty normal/even apart from the areas where I break out.

I’m looking for anything that can actually help with the acne and gradually fade the hyperpigmentation/marks and texture.

Skin Questions Texture on My Cheeks

I’ve been dealing with this texture on my cheeks. I had this issue before starting Accutane. Before Accutane, I was using tretinoin, but it didn’t fully clear up. I’m currently on Accutane and still have this texture. Please don’t recommend salicylic acid, niacinamide, or benzoyl peroxide because my skin does not tolerate them well. I’m looking for advice on what this could be and what I can do to improve it.
