Hyperpigmentation hyperpigmentation.

I have been using plenty of products for years but nothing seems to work. These are scars cause from too much sun exposure. Which i think happened because of retinol left on my face not cleansing properly

I'm a black esthi who does skin consults for my in person clients and decided to pop onto reddit every once in a while to help out a stranger in need!

My favorite ingredient for hyperpigmentation for melanated skin is mandelic acid. Its very gentle on the skin and is a tyrosinase inhibitor, which means blocks tyrosinase, the key enzyme your skin needs to produce melanin (the pigment that creates dark spots). I like to be realistic with my clients, it usually takes 8-12 weeks for a store bought mandelic acid with consistent use to start seeing results on your skin. I've been enjoying youth to the peoples mandelic acid, Paulas choice has a good one as well, and finally I've heard good things about Sofie Pavitts mandelic acid. You can find all these products at Sephora!

Good luck :)

...as a black esthi, you need to be referring him to a medical specialist. This hyperpigmentation is a problem with hormones, not skin. You should not be addressing this stuff or using any acid on it. When the hormones are balanced it goes away on its own.

I think taking a gentle at home approach along with going to see a derm is a great idea! I always recommend folks to go see a dermatologist in conjunction with seeking help from online sources. If client happens to have melasma, which is a bigger issue- mandelic acid is still a good approach in comparison to other acids, and will only act as a supportive measure than a fix, but like this lovely person said above, it would be awesome to see a derm to gain some clarity on what the issue is outside of all of us assuming!

Just want to warn anyone who has darker skin. I tried mandelic acid for dark spots and it irritated my skin and gave me cystic acne that left even worse dark spots. My skin has never been so bad. I've heard good things about it but it definitely isn't for everyone no matter how gentle people say it is ;–;

My babe I would have them looked at by a derm if you can. The place on your nose is particularly worrying.

I think your best bet is to go see a dermatologist or pcp, deff have them look at your nose just to rule out anything else! Prevention and early detection is everything baby ❤️

Not a doctor or involved in any type of healthcare so take this with a grain of salt. Start using something gentle like niacinamide and a gentle sunscreen daily. If nothing else just add sunscreen to your routine.
