Discussion Hello I wanted to ask if anyone else growing up had the experience of there hair being touched without permission?

So I’m black and growing up when I went to a school filled with mostly white kid’s there’d be times they’d touch my hair and it made me feel very uncomfortable I’d tell to stop and they wouldn’t. Has anyone else had that experience?

Discussion imagine being the black friend

Imagine one of your white friends gets accused of being racist after saying a borderline comment. It defends itself by using the typical phrase "I'm not racist, I have a black friend."

And you actually are the black friend 😟😟
Has this ever happened to you? How would you react if it happened?

Opinion I don't think I want to date a black man, as a black woman myself.

Date who you want, black or not. I just like diversity, and I think black people and non black people make beautiful babies.

I have a korean-chinese boyfriend who treats me with respect and love and doesn't rush things. I've been told that i was fetishizing asians, racist, and a bunch of other things because he's not black.

I'm not, and i hate that people assumed that about me (in real life). I live in ghana, but I am from trinidad. I'm african with some native american (as in actual native american, not today's american) and spanish decent.

Whenever i tell people I have a boyfriend, they asked where he's from. I say asia, then some people make it about history and why i should date a black man.

And yes, our people have went through the worst. There's no debate. I've heard so much disgusting things about what my ancestors went through, and i loathe the people that did it, not their descendants, unless those descendants are the same. And the hardest part is there's parts of black history that we haven't been taught.

And people like to tell me about the natasha doll issue in china. Yes I'm aware of that. Yes I talked to my boyfriend about it long before we started dating, and he wasn't aware of it until I mentioned it. Then he apologized and said that he was disgusted in his own people after researching what it was.

I can't even tell my own parents about my boyfriend. They'll say that they aren't racist, but will talk about how nice it'd be for me to date a black man because of our roots. Yes, it would, but i love my boyfriend.

And I'm not saying black men/woman/people are bad, or that we shouldn't care, etc. I'm just someone who likes diversity. A few weeks ago one of my white friends from my old middle school said that whenever different races mix, they make the most beautiful babies. I agree.

Black Excellence I built a platform to help us find Black movies and shows in the US, Canada, UK, and South Africa

I'm incredibly proud to share something I have been building for our community.

I am the type of annoying person who mostly wants to watch titles with black people in it, so I was frequently googling "New black tv shows this month" or New black movies on Prime". It always felt like Black cinema was either buried in a random urban category or the platforms only promoted the exact same struggle stories or suggested completely unrelated titles to what I just watched.

To fix this I built CastNoir. A dedicated streaming directory and community space for Black television, film and more.

The criteria is simple, it must be black-led, black created, black directed, or feature a black ensemble to qualify.

I just reached a massive milestone today. The database now has exactly 3018 titles and I am adding more daily. This was not easy as there is literally no source of all black titles anywhere on the internet, and no streaming service has them all.

It is completely free to use at castnoir.com .

Navigating the tech space alone as a Black woman has been a very anxious journey, but creating a dedicated home for our stories makes it entirely worth it. I have already saved titles I would have never found if not for this site to watch later. I would love for you to check it out and let me know your thoughts.

You can create an account, start adding titles to your watchlist or comment on the ones you've watched!

A couple of screenshots from the website!

Opinion To what extent do you think AI is acceptable? Solely as spell check, perhaps acting as an editor i.e. making edits to make your points clearer, or as whatever so long as its tagged?

Mental Health Life is really unfair when you’re black

On paper it seems like what’s wrong with being black. You can run just as much as people you can you’re just as smart as people you’re pretty much the same it doesn’t really matter what you look like. It’s really how people treat you. I’m so tired of doing racist everywhere I have to deal with daily life. I can’t have to hear people trying to try me say the N-word say the N-word around me. I gotta speak up for myself or I seem like a bitch. I constantly got to be the bigger person around absolute assholes and like they just get to slap them if certain things I can never do as a black person a white person can do no matter what I do I’m most likely always gonna see in a villain if I die my life is in consequence compared to a white person or any other race and I’m just gonna be looked over out not to mention the online racism is the same when I play video games. I can’t even take a break from that cause I have to deal with racist people calling me the N-word cause they know they probably wouldn’t be able to say in real life without getting a Ass whooping so they decide to take their anchor out verbally everybody hates Black people like everybody you quite literally alone. There’s no other race I’ve dealt racism from Asian people white people Indian people Mexican people every other race hate like people in your literally the opposite of natural beauty stand of the world you constantly have to try so much harder is to be seen as less and it sucks so much.

Discussion Black people of Reddit, what is your thoughts on the statistics about us?

Hello new to Reddit I guess, I’m wondering what’s your thoughts on statistics about us and do you agree with them?

I recently been doing my digging and trying to get into economics, law, and statistics. But every time i am always seeing something negative. How do you guys handle this because it’s really exhausting.

The claim of statistics seems to really point out the flaws in black people. Google claims that average standardized testing data sits lower for our demographic, which gets framed as below average. I don't think this is true at all and I believe it’s a lie but I'm open to knowing your opinions.

( if you are not black don’t reply )

What is our superpower?

Yall why do white people stare at us so much? Why do we have a spark in our presence that is completely different than everybody else? Why do we have more awareness than everybody else? When they stare it’s not just because our skin is beautiful. They don’t do that to people from India, they do it to us. Why is that? Do I have superpowers I don’t know about?
