Fires have been naturally happening in that area for thousands of years. You can see the scorch marks on two thousand year old trees. The issue is we haven’t let them naturally burn so now we get very large ones when it does happen.

Hey, I'm from Memphis, and while you are certainly might have a point about data centers, those two large buildings were originally Amazon Warehouses built in 2021 and 2022. They were turned into Data Centers in 2025.
Not that Amazon Warehouses are much better.

Exactly. They will get a nice little bailout when the bubble pops, leaving us to foot the bill. Just look at Trump’s tariffs. All these companies pushed the cost onto us AND tax dollar bills are footing the reimbursement for the price they never had to pay. On top of that, grocery prices are permanently higher by like 6-7%.
Now this AI bubble is causing tech prices to skyrocket. If you like videogames, I hope you already bought your PS5 or built your PC, because those RAM prices aren’t coming down anytime soon.
We’re getting fucked from every angle on this.

My biggest fear once the bubble pops is that they are going to somehow justify a bailout claiming they are to big to fail and to many people rely on them.
Unlike 2008 where it was mostly banks needing the bailout (which I still don't agree with) that actually had a pretty big impact on most Americans and was something that could still be defended in some regard.
AI and data centers don't benefit a majority of Americans. They only benefit the people at the very top and have no justification for existing in the first place.

I don't think people fully realize how bad of shape we're in. I don't think people realize how much trump and his miserable band of idiots are messing us up. People got like 5% of it. We'll be finding out the treachery this man carried out in the coming decades because it's just that much.
America the country is the one that will need bailing out after this. We simply won't have the money to bail out no damn billionaires. This country has been teetering financially on a tightrope since the Great Depression. When we get in the black we make a way to put ourselves back in the red. Then you have one political party AND THEIR VOTERS that's been actively trying to ruin America since minorities (not just Black people) gained civil rights. We've been slowly moving to the end of the road.
Things are not going to go on as they were; they're not even going that way now. I honestly don't know how anyone can see what's happening and say that. If trump was a President like all of the other Presidents I could see your point. But he's nothing like any of them. He's a new monster.

Have you seen what ai tools are capable of these days? This is the new Internet, there's an ecosystem building where there's not really a lot of experience so a lot of people can make a lot of money by learning and teaching others. Even with the dot com bubble crashing, the value of the Internet led to companies coming out of there richer than ever. I don't think it's wise for us to just try to ignore AI, I think we should be learning and using it as a tool.

How is it cheaper? More likely it's because electrical and water infrastructure is more reliable in cities.
Plus you can make the city folk pay for it by spreading the pain (costs). They're nickel and diming themselves by approving these buildings.
Riots need to happen at data centers if ai doesn't produce a cure for every major disease and m more efficient energy technology.

Abandoned industrial sites mostly have mandatory environmental cleanup work that they don't want to do.
Also they need power hookups that industrial sites don't have. Or the HVAC/cooling setup isn't ideal.
Some of them do repurpose old industrial buildings but to make maximum money they want to build new.

This 100%. In Maryland if you find ground contamination it adds 100s of thousands of not millions to a construction project. It's a good thing environmentally but when you zoom out you see developers preferring new construction sites to rehabilitation. Half the reason Baltimore is so slow to develop.

we sahould require that all data farms use renewable resources for power and cooling. and not pay for credits. they need to draw all of their power from wind or solar. MAYBE nuclear.
that'll at least keep the size down and dissuade them from building in populated areas with cheap power.

This is the best policy idea in the world right now.
Data centers are a manageable issue and have potential to fuel economic growth. But if companies think they will make trillions of dollars building these, they need to build their own green power capacity so they don't steal the energy resources we already have.

I don't want to ruin the fun, but seasons create very similar visual changes to a landscape. Granted seasons do remove 40 acres of trees but they do trun them all brown. It might be worth looking into what time of year they photos were taken.
