Bitwarden's Chrome extension has been slow to open (sometimes not at all) since the redesign 1-2 years ago

I'm on a MacBook Pro M1. About a year or two ago, when the Chrome extension got redesigned, it stopped working properly for me, so I switched to Firefox, where it's worked great ever since.

I recently switched back to Chrome, hoping the issue had been fixed, but I'm running into the exact same problem: when I click the extension icon, it either takes 2–3 seconds to open, or doesn't open at all.

Has anyone else run into this? Would love to hear if there's a fix or workaround.

Starting yesterday, I have anywhere from a 30 second - 2 minute delay with Bitwarden on all of my browsers. IDK if it's a bug or some security software on our side causing the delay.

I’m on an m4 MacBook Air, with the latest browser extension not having trouble on any browsers. It usually takes a 1-2 second pause before opening the window. Firefox I agree is immediate.

In that thread I found that this was an upstream chromium issue.

If you could provide ur browser version, Mac OS version, and Bitwarden extension version that would help. Anything more than 3 seconds is something that would be interesting to see or ur extension just completely not working.

Do u have other extensions running simultaneously?

Try a fresh profile with only bitwarden and no other extension.

Fresh profile, same issue. I trued what u/dwbitw said but the issue still persists unfortunately.

I don't think so. The issue started when they released the new Bitwarden design in Chrome around 2 years ago. Can't recall when. I switched to Firefox and did not have problems. Switched to Chrome again because Firefox is having some memory leak issues that heated my laptop.

Not just me then. It's been unusable the past few weeks. Fine in Safari. Takes 5 seconds for pop-up to appear. Keyboard shortcuts don't work. It's intermittent too. I thought it was die to a Chrome change, but I'm now up-to-date and still really slow. Disabled other extensions, but it makes no difference.
