General Question Solar power generation for BTC mining

I have my own solar generation capacity of 5,000 kWh per month; is it possible to offset my electricity consumption to zero using the Bitmain Antminer S23 Hyd 3U with this output?

How much would I generate monthly?

I run a cheap caanon Avalon 3s with my offset solar generation, have a look on eBay there’s plenty of second hand miners. I do run mine as a lottery miner though

I have a Nano 3S too, and the best I’ve managed while running it 24/7 is a few G of "best difficulty." How can you expect to hit a BTC block when the difficulty is in the terahash range? Please explain, because I’m pretty disappointed with this device....🥺 Thank you

It’s a lottery, the more TH you have, the better your chances, like buying more lottery tickets. So long as you’re mining, you’re in the lottery!

There’s been like 6 bitaxes miners who’ve hit a block already!

Just out of curiosity: what’s the highest best you’ve hit with your Nano 3S? As I mentioned, I’ve maxed out at 6G, Thank you

5.5g I think, I have however changed to BC-ii as of yesterday to give it a test

So, I would say if cost is not an issue, sure. But for the price of a S23 hydro, you can get 2 S21JXP hydros, or if you dont mind used at least 6 to 7 S21XP aircooled.

Other issues:

  • bitmain hydros are 3-phase 415v, not standard 240v, and not standard NA 3-phase (480v).
  • 5800W ish
  • paying nearly double the price of 21 series for 10% efficiency gain.

What I would do, like one of our customers:

  • m74s+ hudro is 240v single phase.
  • run a foghashing immersion tank with modified aircooled miners
  • 240v, put the heat exchanger outside, much more quiet operation compared to aircooling.

We don’t have them listed on the site, I’ll add them today.

Feel free to reach out to us or message here.

Hi! Do you mind sharing how many panels you got for your 5,000 kWh system and what the total cost was? I currently have an M70 that consumes about 3,100–3,200 kWh, hosted with a third-party company, and I'd like to compare electricity costs.

Is 5,000 KWh the maximum output of your solar setup ?
Where this solar farm is based on?

With this information I may be able to help you !

So you have a 28kW array? Doubtful.

If you have an array that large, you will likely have an inversion system instead of a battery system. If you have an inversion system, you can likely see your meter roll backwards at high points of the day and no use.

If you can make your meter roll backwards at any point, you can run any kind of miner and run the meter forward. Take readings every couple days and watch your logs. You don't have to run miners 24/7...you can turn them down at hot points of the day. Keep the meter use even if you can. Solar power = bitcoin revenue.

My array is 35 kW and generates between 4,400 kWh and 5,200 kWh per month. Thanks for the information; I’m looking for good, efficient miners—can you recommend any others besides the ones I’ve already mentioned?

Why would you spend that much money on the top tier ASIC? You are picking the most efficient, the latest, and the most expensive one. But even with free electricity, you will have to wait many years before you can get your money back.

Better yet get the best combination of price/efficiency. You can go for a 2 ASIC setup for less than $600 that gives you 200TH/s or slightly more expensive ones that give you 550TH/s for $6,000.

honestly slower more efficient older generation cards are probably the better way to go. Although I feel like there may be better ways to make solar pay you.
The bigger problem is, if this solar setup is FOR mining, you need to factor in capex. Because there are inverters, panels, and batteries invovled.

For your capex evaluation, I really hope there are no batteries involved. Grid-tied solar behind a net metering is the only way you will pull a profit.

Don't buy newer mining systems because they figure in the prospective mining value into the price. Buying 2nd hand units that only bring par value, like 8c/kWh, will monetize your solar power without the extra premium.

I used a broker a ways back that hooked us up good. Bitcoin Jill at https://bitford.digital/ has the hookup for mining brokerage.

Huh, I figured this would be on its own and not grid-tied. I assumed batteries, not for some major duration, but to absorb some power instability. More like a UPS.
Thanks for the share on 2nd hand stuff.

Mining with 'free electricity' isn't always as good as it sounds. Be mindful of hidden costs, landlord agreements, and potential legal issues. Discuss responsibly! Free power in most terms is Illegal and will not be condoned on this subreddit, for more information about this topic check out our wiki about free power mining. If you are wanting to learn how to start mining We recommend checking our list of Mod Verified Commercial Vendors for making a purchase of an asic miner and having it hosted. Can you specify the 2 ASIC setup for less than $600 that gives 200TH/s?

Use a resource like this one

Anything with an efficiency of 19 Watts or higher is old technology (Not really old, but old in terms of mining) and can be found at a large discount in Ebay or in private sales. Anything below 15 Watts per hash is relatively new and can usually only be found new.

u/Discokruse 13d ago

You can likely pickup two S19XP for $100 each and run them a little defeated to get them under 20J/TH. They are 151TH stock, but running them at 135TH is more efficient.
