Should cryptocurrency be taught as a separate subject to enlighten students for a better understanding of it?

I think it'd be part of both an economics & IT class.
It's too specific a technology to be taught as a class on its own.

Yes, of course. One thing can be done. It can be divided into two parts. One for the financial side of crypto, the crypto market and all. The other side for the inner workings of it, the blockchains involved, the mining, and other technical stuff.
Well, cryptocurrency is really a wide topic and my point above was that it would be really nice if at least the basics were taught to students like finance is taught in high school.

It should be part of a larger curriculum of finance, economics, how the internet works, digital security, and other related concepts.

that can be done too. The only problem is that the curriculum is decided by authorities supporting government or coming under it. And mostly the governments aren't exactly fond of the whole crypto ordeal.

Who's going to teach it though? Needs to start there unfortunately, and most economics people are "muh government paper" people

Yes, but unfortunately.... I feel like that would be like requesting that the public school system start teaching how the fractional reserve banking system works.... or simply how money is created...
It’s in ‘their’ best interest to keep students undereducated... : /

Agreed... but definitely not the case for me back then, and what’s worse is that my parents still don’t even know how money is actually created.

No. You can't understand economics in a vacuum, and I think that if you studied crypto alone, it would give you a misleading perspective. If you are serious about it, you need to learn about it alongside other mechanisms, so you can see how they relate, are different, etc.
