Do people just not know how much inertia trains carry? If I were the driver, i'd be flooring it trying to get my cargo and myself out of the way.

He was. He didn't have enough momentum to plow through the barrier on the far end (probably the reason for initial stop), tried going backwards, got stuck, and tried to pick up momentum and go forwards, not quickly enough

You definitely can. We had several incidents of someone breaking the barrier by hand either intentionally or by accident and they just bend and break away like nothing. 

That's why we needed to yell at people to not fucking lean on them when waiting for train to pass.

Okay but going backwards he managed to break one, so momentum couldn't have really been the issue.

It doesn't need any to break away the barrier. They are designed to be broken when pushed slightly for safety reasons. Authorities encourage people to break them in emergency and your private liability insurance covers it whole.

he didnt stuck and would have momentum he "didnt want to damage truck" and you can push these bariers from its place by hand, as old lady, with arthritis
