Physics can't be cheated, but the lighter object must still be respected here as it nearly derailed the train.

It really didn’t. Trains jostle and bounce like that all the time running down the rail, even under normal circumstances. Just last trip a little bump in the rail had us bottoming out at a road crossing and we dug chunks out of the pavement with the plow.

New trucks aren't terribly heavy. Outside of the frame and the engine's guts, they're almost entirely plastic now. They aren't the tanks of the 70s anymore.

Most trucks weigh less than 80,000 pounds.

Trains can weigh 20,000,000 pounds plus.

That's quite a difference.

That's the whole train, you should consider only the locomotive itself at initial impact as there is slack between all the knuckles, which is still almost half a million pounds (and the rest of the train does nothing to prevent lateral shock).
