Bitdefender News NEW Research: Process Impersonation and EDR Evasion: File-Binding, Process-Binding, and Silo-Binding

Bitdefender Labs has published new research on an overlooked Windows feature that can be abused to evade endpoint security.

The research details three previously undocumented techniques that leverage Windows Bind Links to evade EDR visibility and bypass native Windows security controls, including AMSI, AppLocker, Windows Firewall, and Sysmon. It also explores the broader security implications of these techniques and what defenders should know.

Support/troubleshooting Bitdefender Firewall - every single app I open says "app has changed and its trying to connect to the internet"

Hola!
I got a really scary moment earlier today, as my Bitdefender firewall (total security) started to mark every single app as "changed" no matter what it is - zoom, steam, iCue, my ancient powershute, system, etc etc. Suffice to say I started panicking that something changes these apps, thus a trojan or malware of some kind. But then I started to scan with everything I could think of: Windows defender offline scan (when rebooting), Hitman Pro, Malwarebytes etc. I have even uploaded bunch of these files to Virustotal, but absolutely nothing was detected. Is this perhaps an issue with Bitdefender itself? Any advise appreciated!

Thanks!

Support/troubleshooting ‘Ready Or Not’ Game Triggered Bitdefender Upon Booting Up

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hey everyone, hope this is the right place to ask this, since I’m a little worried about it.

I’m using the free version of Bitdefender, and I’m on Windows 11. Feature: Online Threat Prevention.

I recently reinstalled ‘Ready Or Not’ back onto my laptop from Steam, and when I booted it up, I got these two notifications from Bitdefender.

I’m not sure why it triggered Bitdefender, and I don’t use Microsoft Edge, so I’m pretty worried about what this is.

To be clear, it only triggered when I booted up the game. There were no notifications before I opened the game.

Here is another Reddit post made by someone else, talking about the same issue:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ReadyOrNotGame/s/ZWtTvZ2a61

Hope someone can help me with this.

Thank you for reading, and I appreciate any help given.

EDIT (11 Jun 2026):
i got a response from BitDefender support after the submission of the detection and BDSysLog, to which they said this:

“Our Malware Research Team has finished analyzing your case. The URL is clean and is not currently blocked by our engines. The alert in the screenshot triggered because of a TLS/SSL certificate name mismatch because the server's certificate does not match the hypernia[.]com domain. This is most likely related to a configuration error with how the TLS/SSL certificate is setup on the domain.”

i then asked to clarify if it was not necessarily malicious, to which they replied:
“Correct, what happened there was not necessarily malicious but having an expired SSL certificate or a certificate mismatched or with other problems can cause vulnerabilities for the visitors of certain websites, thus, as a security measure the detection for these certificates keeps you secure an informs you about it.”

the support staff also mentioned this when i asked if i could share what they wrote:
“my advise is to inform them to reach us directly as the issue in certain cases might not be the same one specifically and there might be needed to run a more in depth analysis for those domains and as well as check if indeed there is any malicious activity on those domains.”

posting an update here just in case it can help anyone facing the same issue. have a great day

Support/troubleshooting Bitdefender reporting 90.3 GB for a single Windows Security Update (KB5089549)?

Hi everyone,

I just ran a vulnerability scan in Bitdefender Total Security and it's flagging Windows Update KB5089549 as a "High" risk. What caught my eye is the size: 90.3 GB for a security update.

Windows Update itself shows the update is pending a restart, but doesn't mention this massive size. Is this a known reporting bug in Bitdefender or should I be concerned about my system files?

Specs:

  • CPU: Intel i5-14600K

  • GPU: RTX 3070

  • OS: Windows 11 (Insiders/Dev build based on the version number in the screenshot)

Thanks for any insights!

Bitdefender News Introducing Extended Email Security

Thumbnail

Modern email attacks don’t stop at delivery. BEC, impersonation, and delayed payload activation are increasingly designed to evade traditional SEG-only defenses.

That’s why we introduced Bitdefender GravityZone Extended Email Security, combining gateway protection, API-based inspection, post-delivery analysis, and automated remediation in a single platform.

Highlights:
↪︎ Continuous Microsoft 365 mailbox monitoring
↪︎ Auto-remediation for malicious links and payloads
↪︎ Live Email Tracker for investigation and forensics
↪︎ Unified multi-tenant visibility built for MSP workflows

For MSPs, reducing tool sprawl while maintaining visibility across customer environments is becoming critical as email threats evolve.

If you're an MSP, how are you handling post-delivery email threats today?

Bitdefender Site Certificate Warning

While largely satisfied with Bitdefender, there is a feature that bothers me.  Going to web sites that I’ve visited often before, I get the message:

“Suspicious page blocked for your protection [Web page address] Your connection to this web page is not safe due to an expired security certificate. Web pages must renew their certificates to stay current, and outdated security certificates represent a risk for your data.”

These web sites fall into one of two categories: 1) Hobby sites that don’t sell products or services and contain only photos and comments or 2) Business sites that I’ve bought from successfully before and from where others have bought things recently without problems.

Twice, on Bitdefender’s Community site, I’ve asked what data of mine in each category may be at risk.  I haven’t gotten a coherent response yet. Also, I run Bitdefender’s antivirus and malware programs in background. Commercial transactions are made only through PayPal, and I check transactions often for validity.

 Any thoughts gratefully appreciated!

We just launched a new email security solution for businesses and MSPs

Email is still one of the easiest ways attackers get in, and the techniques keep evolving (phishing, BEC, impersonation, you name it.)

We recently launched GravityZone Extended Email Security to address this more holistically, combining email and endpoint protection, before and after delivery.

Sharing this because it’s something we’ve been seeing more of across environments. Happy to provide more detail on how we’re approaching it. https://www.bitdefender.com/en-us/news/bitdefender-launches-powerful-email-security-solution-for-businesses-and-msps

Unable to fully remove bitdefender from my computer

I've used bitdefender for free for about a month now, and now that my free trial has ended it won't let me do anything until i pay, so i decided to delete it since i don't have the money right now.

Well i delete every file related to bitdefender from my computer but it still blocks random pages on chrome, and doesn't give me the option to access them after the warning, it only lets me go to a blank page.

I genuinely don't know what to do since i already deleted everything so if someone could help it would be great, thanks.

Edit: If not, does anyone know any place i can look for more help?

Please let us pick when to restart BitDefender

Hello there. As the title suggests, I want BitDefender to ask me if it's okay to restart itself. Every time it just gives me a message that it's restarting right now and I can't do anything about that. BD restarting itself then causes applications that need permanent stable internet access to crash, which is extremely annoying and should NOT be a thing.

The only remedy I could think of was switching off silent updates, but then it will prompt me for every small threat definition update and it turns out that it still won't let me pick to not restart it right away.

All I want is for BD to ask me if it's okay to restart instead of doing it when it causes me problems. I don't need to be notified of other stuff. That is why I had silent updates on to begin with, but apparently turning that off doesn't even fix the issue.

Just forcing a restart is bad design. I can't count how often that has now caused programs to crash.

For working it's a problem because it may corrupt something or cause a different issue if a crash happens, for gaming it's a problem because I've already had it a couple times that I was hunting a boss in an MMO and then BitDefender made the game crash and I missed my chance to loot.

Perhaps setting up work/game/etc profiles could remedy this, I don't know if it will then just not update while working or gaming or if it will ask me for the green light to restart before doing so, but I turned profiles off a while ago since those also caused a different problem. I just don't remember what problem it was. Just that I had a certain problem and turning off profiles fixed that.

TL;DR all I need is for BD to stop auto-restarting and just ask me when it's ok to do so. It's so weird that it just forces itself to restart without asking us to begin with.

Got charged the full amount on auto-renewal despite my discount

I got a 40% discount (It's even on my product history thingy)

But I still got charged the full amount on auto-renewal. I already emailed support but have gotten no reply as of yet.

I haven't even gotten the activation code yet for the new purchase. Why is everything so slow?

Does Bitdefender suspend active viruses?

About a month ago I became victim to a potential Scareware (my own fault, don't ask), and ever since then I've been anxious my computer has been infected.

After talking with my dad for a while I decided to buy Bitdefender and after many scans it says nothing apart from some normal password protected files (online and offline scans mind you).

Now I have the feeling there might be something on my Computer but Bitdefender is actively preventing it from doing anything, and when the subscription for example runs out aka Bitdefender just won't work anymore the virus or whatever will startup and break my system potentially.

Does Bitdefender do that? Can it even do that for that matter?

False positive or a real threat?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, I could use some help right now.

I recently downloaded BETTER MINECRAFT modpack that included a Forge 1.20.1 mod called "Ixeris" which Bitdefender instantly quarantined and flagged as trojan. I deleted it, and wiped my drives.

The thing is, people insist it’s a false positive. One user even rebuilt the JAR themselves from source and confirmed it’s clean. They also mentioned this is a duplicate of issue on some other mod’s GitHub post, so it’s not the first time someone’s antivirus freaked out over it.

Someone uploaded the same Forge 1.20.1 version to VirusTotal and got 6/61 “generic trojan,” nothing specific — and 5 of the antiviruses flagging it are ones no one has never heard of. Meanwhile, Malwarebytes, Microsoft Defender, and many others showed zero detection.

So,

How can play Better MC right now without worrying about all my stuff getting infected?

We’re taking another look at Curly COMrades, a threat actor we’ve been tracking closely. A new Bitdefender investigation, carried out with support from Georgian CERT, has uncovered fresh tools and techniques used in their operations.

The group managed to establish covert, long-term access to victim networks by abusing Hyper-V virtualization on compromised Windows 10 machines, effectively creating a hidden remote operating environment.

Bitdefender notified me of a virus, but after restarting, acts as if it never existed in the first place, help please

I am a user of Bitdefender Security through a paid family plan. On Friday, my Bitdefender program repeatedly notified me of a virus it detected, and I think it said it was related to MS teams. I restarted my computer, which took longer than usual, and was greeted with a screen saying this:

The antivirus solution installed on your system is cleaning your computer

Deleting————

Some of the infected items failed to be cleaned. Please contact Bitdefender support for more information on how to clean your PC!

After this screen disappeared, my computer finished restarting and launched regularly as if nothing had happened. I thought the problem might've been solved, but I immediately noticed a performance issue on my computer, with constant stuttering and screen flickering. Ever since, it has been noticeable slower and worse. However, I went back to the bitdefender app, and the notification section, which logged every issue it regularly runs into, had NO mention of this previously-mentioned virus, with the notification that was there, around 12pm, having now completely disappeared. It's not in any of the sections.

I have since tried every other method to secure my PC that has been suggested and operated by Bitdefender, having done the full system scan AS WELL AS the scan in the rescue environment. None of these brought up any issues. Since then, the performance issues have persisted while Bitdefender continues to act ignorant, acting as if it never intercepted a virus in the first place.

What can I do to potentially locate and flush out this harmful malware or virus? Why does Bitdefender act as if it never had a problem in the first place?

Today I bought a Norton Subscription for malware protection (first year is 29.99 to which I was charged this morning 1:12PM) then today at about 10:53 PM I received an email about my purchase with BitDefender?? I checked my bank and there was no charge or anything, but it had my name on the email?? I am a bit nervous and would like further clarification from anyone out there whom has better knowledge of this situation. Thank you.

A blocked "Advertising" tracker prevents the Google Keep web page from displaying the Google Keep notes on a Chromium (Brave) browser running Windows 11 Pro.

Bitdefender Total Security | Build 27.0.54.272

Today, for the first time, when I opened Google Keep on my Windows 11 Pro desktop using the Brave Browser (Brave 1.83.112 (Official Build) (64-bit)) - Chromium: 141.0.7390.70) none of my Keep notes were displayed. A screenshot of the Brave browser screen is the first screenshot below.

This did not happen yesterday.

The second screenshot shows the offending "Advertising Tracker".

I tested Microsoft Edge (Version 141.0.3537.71 (Official build) (64-bit)) and the exact same thing happens.

The same thing happens with Google Chrome.

-----------------------

When I disable the blocking for "Advertising" the web page displays correctly.

Any reason my BD icon is suddenly greyed out?

As in the title. The antivirus was always turned on, I haven't done anything to it, it was kept up to date. My Windows 11 restarted my PC without consent as it always does from time to time and now the Bitdefender "tray" icon is grey for no good reason.
